It just seems a bit weird as most people don't have their own website...is it against the rules if I use the link to my suggestions thread as my homepage?

Arrgh...

If it is YOUR suggestion thread I would not think it is against the rules. If it is a public suggestion thread, I don't know. Contact a mod for that thread and ask... That's what I would do.
