I thought this would be a fun little subject.

So is you have the first turn, does it actually make all the difference and depicts the way the match should go?
I think it mainly depends on the type of build, Stats, Tank or not Tank, Etc.

It wins games all by itself. A first turn malfunction puts your opponent on the defensive.

A first turn does not decide the game if you play smart

The bomb expert is correct. The first turn does not grantee a win. especially if you are going against a build you are at a disadvantage against.

first turn can give a advantage to offensive builds , also if they use a debuff on you.

I have a build on one of my alts that only works if I go second because it is a defensive play style and I need to waste my first turn to set the ball rolling, ie Rusty Bot's debuff. Now can I make it work if I go first yeah sure but I much prefer to go second with that build so I keep my support low

if a smoke and massacre bounty hunter goes first before you can malf them...you are screwed. or is a strength bloodmage goes first(and also a 5 focus one)

My current build features fairly low support, so I often end up going second but It's very rare that I would say that going second makes me lose. The only times that I think that going first gives a real advantage is when using a damage dump build that can have you dead in a few turns. It forces the player who went second to play defensive and destroys any build not focused on defense.

@OWA: If you get the first turn you can always just strike, maybe get a little damage down and the rage gain can't hurt.

I usually go second, but it's ok. I try to use the going second second turn to debuff, then I Blood Commander, then I go all-out on them (25-30 +35, max Zerker :D)

@Illuminator yeah a basic strike doesn't hurt at times but some times I want to lure in my enemy by doing nothing

Depends on the build of both players
example: I had an anti-HLTM build in beta that worked best when I went second because malf would be gone by the time I used surgical

The first turn is not only an element of surprise but also a time advantage. Before the opponent can use Massacre I guess you can use Supercharge so you are ALWAYS 1 turn ahead. We do not realize how much of a help it is. Well, maybe.

In a str BH vs. str BH fight, the one who goes first usually wins, unless there is luck factor.
Now, in a 5 focus fight, 1st turn helps, but doesn't decide the fight, because everyone has time to set up.

If support actually worked this wouldn't be a problem. The person with more support should always go first.

If they use carbon or blue diamonds on the first turn, I usually have a lower chance of winning.
My build focus on aggressive play.

Say that Its a bounty vs a bounty.
Mostly if you don't go first or know what you're doing then you most likely lose.
But if you have enough for Smoke, emp, then Masscre then your odds increase.
For ex-81 energy 4smoke=19energy so you now have 62 so now you emp if you don't go first.
If you do go first heal after masscre
So anways you 7e.m.p and now you got 46 so then you masscre
Game strategy :Later :D
The build i use-4smoke
Max bloodlust
7emp
1stun
5masscre
5shadow
125 health
81energy
High str

If you are versing a smoke - massacre BH and you go second... Well you are screwed...
But sometimes... You can somehow win... (EMP is ma best buddy)
I prefer 1st, since my build is 5 focus, I like to get my bot in nice and early to scare them xD

it depends on the builds used in the battle. But unless your a super tank if you go second against any player with high strength build your usually screwed( mainly strength BH, strength Tech Mage, and strength BM ( can be countered since no debuff to improve damage) ).

Going second wouldn't be a problem if we had builds that could counter high strength builds.

I have a build that has a 85% win chance if it gose first but if it goes second it drops to 50%

so i think going first dose mater

Going first definitely gives a major advantage against certain enemies while not to others. (Example: If you have atom smasher against a str BH, the likeliness of it not getting blocked is well worth an extra 5%+, and the removal of that energy can greatly influence the entire fight). Conversely, going second against a focus BM and other like builds can actually not make a large difference, other than them just having the first turn to attack. However, going first with reroute can be greatly beneficial, as getting hit hard on the first turn can effectively easily remove a large amount of energy's worth from the passive ability. My point being that whoever goes first generally has an advantage, but the magnitude of that advantage can vary greatly based off of both players' builds.

@Angel I agree with support not being strong enough in terms of going first. My 111 2v2 merc supp build actually goes LAST of the 4 players 20% of the time... I think they should probably rescale support's first turn advantage slightly.

@Penguin
I had a 123 support build on my Tac Merc in 2v2, and I went fourth
I then decide to make the build I currently use

If I go second, it only matters against BM's, because one extra turn can make a big diff for me against them
Or against STR BH's because of smoke making my Atom Smash get blocked

I no longer have a problem with STR BH's unless my Atom Smash gets blocked, I just boost until the smoke runs out
