 Ok so, I made this thread to discuss Why so many people think focus builds are underpowered.
I know its underpowered with some classes, like bloodmage, I've tried.

Seems to be doing pretty well on my tactical mercenary though.

Why do you think focus builds are(n't) underpowered?

This Thread IS NOT ment for arguing, but light information about the topic. Please do not argue, though you may state your opinion to someone

 i dont think their underpowered because yes their seem less effective then omega because it isnt as easy to abuse tech . but their actually not that bad.

 ^ agreed. But with tactical merc you can get focus, with 30-36 resistance and 91 health.
And still have good defence.

Mine:

Defence: 19-23 + 8 +10
Resistance: 30-36 +2

Meh, focus takes stats away from my cannon. And the cannon deals a lot of damage.

 I find focus builds to be pretty good and since most people are abusing strength it is that much easier to block them.. which in the end they still call me a lucky noob but ah well got the win XD
Also makes your build well rounded rather than having to rely solely on your primary and gun.

Eh, try being a focus 5 bloodmage. Yeah, didn't think so.

The focus 5 BH's seem to be doing absolutely fine though.

What about a 5 focus BM tech build? Basically a BH with bunker buster.

Focus builds only work for "tank" classes, these being tactical mercenary, mercenary, and cyber hunter.
Why?
A Focus build has no "strong" stat. While a tech mage uses support and technology, a blood mage and a bounty hunter use strength,
these classes can not be tank because they lack extra defenses, things that the three classes listed on the first line of my reply have.

So, because these classes lack the ability to defend themselves as adequately as is required to sustain a "focus" build, and seeing as these
are of late the more populous classes, the option is looked down upon because it does not work.

In any case, why are focus builds shunned by the classes listed at the beginning? Simply put, there are better builds.
Now, I would like to present that although a 5 focus build does yield a higher percentage of wins than a strength abuse build in the long run, but Epicduel has become
a game based on quantity of wins, not on the quality of the wins. I also enjoy using "strategy" and "cunning" to win; unfortunately, these concepts are thrown out the window,
because if you use an overpowered, strength abusing build, you will see a decently high % much faster. Rather than one win a minute, you will see 3-4 wins a minute. Seeing as we need to
keep up with the majority of the population and actually earn a considerable amount of wins, this is simply not an option.

@Below Would you like to know the difference between your build and the strength mercenary, for example? I don't see focus BHs everywhere. Evidently, the strength abuse builds are still superior.
On a side note, I would like to point out that I said it is very difficult to pull it off, but not impossible. I am aware that it can be done; unfortunately these are few and far between.

@Ale6300 BH is unique in that it can pull off any build. Try doing that with tech mage or blood mage, then come talk to me. You and above you are only addressing one of three classes. Balance isn't done with only one class,
but with all of them.

^I laughed. I have been using a BH support build for a week to high success. I mean, success being an 80% win rate. It may get frustrating but it is do able.

@nico0las can defeat most of the builds with 5 Focus BH if you had good strategy, you only can get trouble with Caster Techmages, or 5 Focus TLM.

I am a 5 Focus BH and I have trouble with both versions of Mercs and Caster Tech Mages. -__-

And this is mainly becuase the shields are broken.

@nico0las I beat many strength mercs daily, EMP helps immensely. In fact the few times I lose to strength mercs I when they get rather lucky. Caster TMs are countered by emps and my gun draining energy, if ou sap their energy fast eough then they can't dish out much damage.

I don't really feel like arguing about this and I admit I was only able to pull off success as a BH. I understand your point, but it is really up to personal preference. I say don't buff focus because it is perfectly balanced in my opinion. Strength builds are better but they will soon be nerfed, focus should not be touched!

On a side note: Focus should be a universal build type because that was the original intention, but there is nothing I can think of to buff it for certain classes but not make it OP for classes like BH.

@Above Firstly I'd like to apologize if it seems as though I've been smashing you and your build in any way. I simply have difficulty believing it is true, seeing as I've been a long-term bounty hunter and never had success with anything excluding strength builds.
I will admit that what you told me about your build does seem feasible, and I'd like to try it out (seeing as I have nowhere near enough funds to do this, it will have to wait).
In any case, you are correct that bounty hunter can actually beat these classes; even so, the strength mercenary has proven superior (questionable, time will tell if this is true or not)

Anyways, I apologize and I would like to try a 5 focus hunter build out, but I'm stuck with mage for now.

@above No worries man, it is a ton of fun to us this build when luck doesn't run wild. I go 10+ turns with strength mercs. My build consists of 26 + 9 def (generator gives 23 hp and 5 EP, which is crucial), 35 res (high tech for bot damage), nothing on strength besides the 45 points and the rest on support, oh and 88 hp. I really just EMP, bot, aux, heal, omega overdrive, generator, bot, aux, heal, etc, suits me well.

+5 Focus Tech BH works wonders if you know how to use it. I gotta say, it's much better than just simply spamming strength and health. I just have problems with str BHs since they always manage to hit 30+ even with my +52 reflex boost active. Is this even mathematically possible?

yeah because Reflex is bugged - it does not work when applied over Smoke. Although you see dex and defense being boosted in stats page, there is no actual boost. Just test this with a friend and you will see.

I'm still having fun with my TechMage 5 Focus build, It's still my favourite among those other 5 Focus build.

Wrong!
Im a 5 focus BM, works great, even against str mercs.
I beat str mercs without needing a block or first turn, i can even call some names here since one of those mercs is on these forums, but i wont!

5 focus BM is doing perfectly Fine, if you disagree then you are using it wrong!

For me, 5 focus TM just doesn't work. TLMs/BHs on the other hand are quite strong but still need to be lucky against str spammer.

Not quite right, If you have all strategy in your mind, It will be beast I say. I pretty much winning by getting 150/30 W/L
