Fame.

Just a little discussion I wanted to make.

First off, this is a DISCUSSION, NOT an advertising thread, so no posts talking about faming you. It's better to have that in your signature.

Basically, what do you like about the fame system, or how people get fame?

What do you think is the right way to obtain fame?

I know that fame isn't new, but with Omega, tons of veterans (like myself) are making a return. Some of which, will probably do annoying things, such as spam, request "F4F"* (not really annoying, but it can become so), or whatever else. What are pointers, or just opinions that you guys have about faming altogether, or obtaining fame? I could use some pointers myself.

Honestly, one point I have is that you can put your character page in your signature. I personally may be stretching it a bit by having " Fame me!" in it, but I don't plan to spam people about it. It's simply there for whoever may want to do so if they liked the post I made. A better alternative than asking "F4F?" each battle, in my opinion.

What are your guys' opinions and tips for fame? Just don't flame, or advertise, as this type of thread can easily get out of hand if that happens, but I trust that that won't happen.

*F4F - Fame for Fame. Basically giving your opponent a point of fame, and trusting that they'll do the same for you. This is validated when they tell you the new amount of fame you have after faming you.

The fame system was a good idea but badly executed. Even though I don't mind fame myself I personally think it should been made an out of game thing only meaning as long as you are on epic duel you can't fame people.

doing it outside of the epic duel game meaning gaining it through social networks from friends outside of the game like it was originally intended.

Here are some tips from me on how you can get fame and not be a nuisance to some people.

1 Find a social network outside of the game since there are people who made fame groups on facebook and twitter and join them. With this you can gain fame without asking for it and you won't annoy those who don't do fame.

2 If you must do it in game there is oz 7 since a lot of people are there. However, instead of just asking or begging in some terms let people ask you. while you might not get the max amount of fame you could by asking yourself there are plenty of people who will always ask you for it. By doing it this way you can get fame from those who want, and not annoy some of the other people who don't do fame.

3 If you must ask try to remember which people don't do fame to avoid asking them again. By doing this you can avoid ticking off those who don't do fame.

Don't do this unless you know the person will fame you back or is a friend of yours. There are some players who will pull baelius's (meaning they will take your fame and not fame you in return) just to annoy those who want fame.

But overall my opinion on fame is this. It was a nice reward for those who advertised the game through social networks such as facebook twitter, and youtube. However it went horribly wrong when they did the following

1 made it so you could fame in game.
2 added the Daily fame LB and all time LB on top of this.

The fame system was badly received by the community. In theory it is excellent, but it barely works in practice, as it has nothing to do with fame, it has to do with how many times you can spam "f4f pls" in 24 hours.
It needs tweaking. What kind of tweaking, I have no idea, I've never much liked fame.

I don't wanna say much, but fame has done a lot to ED and its really being helpful in getting many new players ... It may annoy few ppl here, but it's doing good for ED so I totally support fame :)

Just get rid of it. Fame serves no purpose whatsoever other than being annoying.

Nothing.

The only right way is by fighting and getting recognition through the boards, or simply having friendly interactions with a lot of players. Fame must not be sought after, it is supposed to simply be a reward for being well known.

What are your guys' opinions and tips for fame?

Fixing fame takes one simple tweak. Remove our ability to see the numbers. Since we can never be sure whether we got famed or not, the F4F crowd will slowly dwindle and die out, ushering a new era of peace for our poor mistreated chat board.

Just because few players are annoyed by ppl asking for fame does not mean the fame sys must be removed ... Many F2P players dont like the varium players, and varium providing an edge to the ppl who pay ... that doesn't mean they should remove varium currency ...


Fame has many + points ... May not relate to players but surely relates the game. And that's a very big reason to keep it alive :)

Fame does help the game and the player though, But most of the player just bring the fame feature to other whole new level, I mean using it for spam.
