Break Some Hearts

...or eat them!

This week, celebrate Valentine's Day, EpicDuel style! In addition to returning Heartbreaker seasonal rares at the Alydroid (now relocated to Frysteland), we are introducing a new Varium package with 4 new Azrael weapons: a physical and energy version of Azrael's Anguish (sidearm) and Azrael's Annihilator (auxiliary). Crafted by otherworldly engineers, these devastating weapons of warfare come equipped with new active skill cores.

The sidearms come with Azrael's Will, which overwhelms the target with an uncontrollable urge to strike with a normal attack. This gives the owner of the sidearm an opportunity to block and avoids guaranteed unblockable damage from skills and weapons.

The auxiliaries come with Azrael's Torment, which devastates opponents with a blast of corrupting energy that diminishes the effectiveness of buffs.

These weapons are only available with the 10k Varium package.

Again, the old rares will be returning (along with some new additions!) to the Alydroid relocated to Alydriah's Spire in Frysteland.

Rare Proposal

With the new promo package we will be trying a new rarity/availability paradigm. Starting with the Azrael gear, promotional package items will only be available through the 10k Varium package upon their introduction to the game. However, they would be tagged and seasonal and be available in game the next time that season comes around. This means that the new Azrael gear will only be available with the new promotional package this year, but next year it will appear in game as a seasonal rare.

Development phase promotions would be exempt from this paradigm since development phases are not seasonal. This means that the Omega gear will never be available in-game.

Compensation Clarification

As mentioned in previous Design Notes, those with enhancements on items in their inventory prior to Omega received 30% of their spent enhancement Varium and 10% of their spent enhancement Credits. However, we did not make it clear that your enhanced weapons would retain their original resale value as if they still had enhancements equipped.

Mathematically, this means if you spent 1000 Varium purchasing an item and 1000 Varium enhancing it, your total Varium sellback would be 300 rather than 150 Varium.

AQW Alpha Omega

The Omega release was so big, it has spilled into AQW. Become a PvP champion and tear the toughest monsters asunder with the mighty Alpha Omega class. Look for a complete writeup soon in the AQW Design Notes!

More to Come

Also, we are adding a plethora of bug fixes and balance adjustments which will be covered in detail in the patch notes!

Hmm. I think that I like the idea of seasonal promos becoming regular seasonals the next year. This would have been awesome with the shortage of auxiliaries that delta had. (basically if you didn't have eggzooka, you HAD to use catterpillar bugzooka)

I do not mind this smaller release especially considering that they (staff members) are focusing their time on balance repairs at the moment. Anyhow...

New Promotional Packs: N/A (positive for people looking to expand their inventory slash get the most out of paying for 10K varium. What I admire here is the Sidearms and Auxiliaries being included, I have been waiting for so long for this. Hey, are these Sidearms... single-shot?)

Rares Proposal: Positive (nothing I could argue here is negative)

Compensation Clarification: Positive (helpful because of the summative value of the items being retained)

As much as i like supporting you guys with my debit card, i dont really see why i should put money into a promo if its going to be available next year "for free"

@ legion of soul

They are truly trying to make varium a true short cut. But now that I think about it, this new system took away the last thing item wise that made it worth spending money or time on.

holy carp, this idea of buying promos a year later with creds only is awesome!! i LITERALLY dont need to put more
money into this game. i probably will though, since i should have a job again soon. as long as they have a great game,
ill still put money towards their efforts.

my biggest question though, is, will this be backwards compatible with previous promo packs as well... obviously, this
wouldnt apply to items like beta and delta gear, since they were phase promos. you guys have roused my curiosity!!

Looks good to me. But I'm not a varium player so I'm probably not buying it anyway. Maybe I'll buy some of the other in-game seasonal rares.

I don't get it !!! I spent 6k varium for enhancement all my item and all i receive is 1.8k varium ( 30% if it ). Same with the amount, my other account spent 6k varium but all i got back is 1k .. ( even i spent the same amount with that account )

Well I think they should make it available in game for only varium, better than making most of the players to wait till next year and buy it with credits ..

No one said that the promo will be available next year for CREDITS ONLY. So, I'm not getting my hopes too high. I'll gladly settle for credit versions of the Heartbreaker weapons anyday <3

Nice release,

I like the new system of first year promo exclusive and next year in game.

The azreal will skill core to me seems a bit OP.

Picture this, You are versing a caster game and they have rage and would plasma bolt you next turn, with the side arm you can make them completely waste their rage on a weak strike attack.

Plus once again it's another skill core which will benefit the STR builds most, because they are both less effected by it since their strikes are still strong and because they can use it to counter the very few builds like caster mages that actually counter them...

I think it would be better if the skill core was changed to any attack, rather then just a strike, if it was it would still be extremely useful being able to stop payers using a shield, energy draining or healing at a very critical time in the game.

Forcing the to only strike seems a bit over the top, mainly because not all builds use high STR.

The auxiliary skill core however seems ok to me.

However it's not really anything original..

Isn't it basically azreal borg on an aux?

How about it being something like reduces incoming energy drain by 50% for 3 turns.

We complain about unblockables, they give us a counter. Unfortunately the skill core seems to be a bit too good.

So their intention is it being a STR counter for unblock-able moves....

However the result will most likely be a buff to STR builds and a nerf to any other class that doesn't like using STR... Once again...

I might as well try an insane dex build with the side arm, seems like an interesting concept that builds could be designed around. A control build that focuses on taking away you opponents strategy use things like the gun, EMP, and yetis.

I highly doubt that the side arm core is their idea for countering strength abusers, after all they have said that they are still making changes to balance and such, so have no fear!

^ I have fear alright...

Another buff nerfer...

We already have azreal borg...
That already did massive damage to balance and variety and they are implementing something almost the exact same but on an aux?

One again killing the use of shielding to defend your self...

And once again causing the high damage debuff builds to be OP.

Imagine this, High support mage with extremely high malf,

You shield then BAM the shield is reduced to nothing with a massive auxiliary attack...

Not sure if this would be OPed , but i think it might be , especially to non-STR builds .

So that'll be like 2 Azrael's Borgs ? Uh , great .

The cores are quite useless in jugg's point of view ... And ofcourse for jugg battles too.
