In 2v2, people often ask me who to attack first. I follow a simple strategy. Before the match starts, I quickly assess my ally's strengths, then the two enemy's weakness's. I attack the one I think we can kill the quickest and easiest. The faster you can turn the 2v2 to a 2v1 match, the better.

Never attack the 'wrong one'. For example, if one of the enemy is a tank, and the other one is low defense/high stength, who should you attack? Many of the lower level players attack the tank. Wrong! Get the lower defense one first. C'mon it's not rocket science.

lol, funny post. but yes, it is annoying. however, not everyone thinks about strategy. not everyone thinks a few steps ahead in
2v2 mode. when i do 2v2, i look at stats and think ahead to how the action i take will affect the match in a few turns. when you
think about it, 2v2 is almost like chess, but with random luck thrown in...

Communication is really important here. Suppose you have malfuncton and your partner has smokescreen. If you go first and use malf on the desired target, don't just instruct your partner to attack him. Also make sure they use an energy attack instead of applying smokescreen, as most players will "automatically" do this as their first attack. Using all energy attacks will dispatch the enemy much quicker, and your partner can save his smokescreen from the other guy.

Rocket science it is not, but I don't mind when my teammate asks. This tells you that they are coming into the battle ready to use some semblance of teamwork and strategy. Much rather have them ask then to get one of those guys who treats 2v2 as two 1v1 battles in one...

@Made 4 Sunny Days

I agree with that. I'd like to have lots of teamwork into 2v2.

It depends on the situation, as always. Some of my 2vs2 battles that I've played me and my teammate are against a player that tanks and a player that has low stats in everything excluding HP. In that case, we simply go for the tank since the player that spammed HP usually can't dish out mass damage.

If I have a partner with a bad win/loss ratio, I tell them who to attack first, and If they don't listen, sometimes I go with it and sometimes I switch people, it depends. With everybody else I confirm who we are attacking, and if they disagree I do change my mind sometimes, because its usually better in most cases to both attack the same person, even if its the wrong person, than to have me attack who I think is the right person, and my partner attack the other guy.

@Giras
You make it sound too simple. A lot of the people who use malfunction or smokescreen by default have only physical or energy weapons or very few options of the other type. I've gotten a lot of losses from partners who would do so much more damage if they were attacking someone with 50 resistance with a physical weapon.

I follow a simple checklist I've made in my mind, and I go through it in order like this:

-Which opponent has more HP, and by how much? Lower HP is typically the one you kill first.
-After checking def/res on the opponents, you how fast you can kill the opponent, given that they can both heal. You typically want to go after the least tanky one first.
-Which opponent has the most damage potential? You want to kill the opponent who has the highest killing potential against you. It can also vary off of the damage type. For example, I can use a defense build, and would be more in favor of killing the TM support rather than the TLM one.
-Which one goes first? This is really important now given all the merc support builds, which you can typically 2-hit KO without the opponent healing and with the use of strong offensive skills such as debuffs and kill moves. You want to go after the person who went first as you can "skip" their turn by killing them before they can go again.

Choosing the right person in 2v2 to kill first requires good prediction, strategy, and an assessment of everyone's predicted role on the field. Also, remember that 2v2 is majorly luck and only a minor amount of skill, once you reach the level cap. A general hint is to know the battle mechanics and apply them during battles to create accurate predictions which favor you; I always play with the desktop calculator as I need to make sure whether or not skills like supercharge, bunker, and rage attacks can kill the opponent.

To be honest, it's not always that clear of an answer on who to attack. I once had one match where the tank was a Merc and he had a huge Surgical Strike damage to him. The other guy had way lower defenses but I went for the tank anyways because he was more a threat than a hassle to take care of. The other guy was a low level who wouldn't have made much dent in either of us but I knew that the tank would be putting a huge wallop into my side. My partner lagged out and I had to finish the match myself. Like I predicted, the tank took a huge chunk out of my health(I healed beforehand because I saw it coming) and after that I managed to finish him off with no problems.

And then you have situations where one has more def/res than the other but he also has less health.

I typically take out lower levels who die quickly or have literally no killing potential first, because rage gain on them is hard to predict and they can heal the higher-level, more tanky opponent that my ally and I are trying to take out.

Depends on who's softer and who has more damage potential. generally softer ppl have higher killing ppotential but then there are tanks who complicates things a bit :/
Honestly i dont find it matters if you attacka tank or a soft target because damage balances out, just never attack a heal looper because they dont die xD

I usually just ask because I like to see what my partners plans are.

The worst is when your opponent disregards this and attacks the tank. It's simply a waste of time if you can remove the player who's going to deal the more important amount of damage first.
Of course, I don't play 2v2 at all so I don't know much about it. I have about 1000 wins so I'm not one to talk, compared to some others here :/

But yes, it's a very basic routine. Attack the weaker player first.

yes, I find it annoying when you make a decision and your ally completely ignores it and goes off on whatever they feel is best. This typically occurs with players who have more losses than wins in 2v2, so its natural that this pretty much causes multiple skilled players' defeats. After all, 2v2 is pretty much 80% luck and 20% skill.

I notice it's mainly the lower level players, 30-32, who are attacking the tank first.

Get with the program low level players.
