So as I went through the questions here, I found that a lot of them were asking about name changes.

I think having a thread where forumites can request name changes will help. Here's why:

Firstly, it will help ease the pain on Seahawk's Inbox.

Secondly, newer forumites won't have to move around confused as the facility will now be centralised in the form of a thread.

All rules, regulations and procedure regarding name changes can be mentioned in the first post itself leading to no further confusion on the requesting forumite's part. He'll know that the passwords are sent to E-Mails.

Openly requesting a name change will let other forumites know what so and so forumite's name was before and what is his name now. This wipes away all confusion regarding identity.

Seahawk can keep a record of who changed his name better by just mentioning it in the first post of the thread for future references thus keeping an open record of all name changes that have taken place so as to not lead to changing names twice. I have no doubt that he keeps a record even now.

What do you guys think?

But at the same time Seahawk now has to patrol a thread, make sure he keeps track of who he changes and does not change, and it needs to be patrolled for spam and everything else. This doesn't also automatically guarantee that the Name Change question threads get deleted because just as people have missed the FAQs stating how to change your name they could miss the thread.

I figured that if ArchKnights can patrol thousands of threads in their respective boards, Seahawk shouldn't have trouble patrolling one. And I do understand if he's busy.
He can edit in the posts themselves to mark them.
And I think if one puts up the thread in Forum Suggestion or Q&A, forumites will see it and they will HAVE TO post there for name change as that will be the only way then.

FAQs are a set of questions that most forumites don't like to waste their time reading just to see if their question has been asked. They think it simpler to just ask it anyway. There's a big difference.

So there.

That doesn't excuse not reading the FAQs, they're there for a reason. Admins have other roles that normal users and even mods aren't privy to, so it's not at all reasonable to equate AKs monitoring threads with Seahawk having to split himself between what he does and a thread that could very well contain rule breaking requests. Such a system would mean that Seahawk would have to go through the thread and have it cleaned out periodically to ensure requests that violate the rules are removed, whereas with the current system, he'd be able to delete or ignore the PM. He cannot do that with a highly visible thread. Name changes aren't the only requests he handles and his job is mainly conducted via PM, meaning that he'd need to split his attention between a thread and his inbox. It will invariably create more work for him.
