To me, frost shards seems really overpowered. It's pretty much an unblockable energy damage version of frostbite, except it can be bought on any primary with any kind of currency at any time. Before, frostbite was already a pretty strong core because of its ability to deal normal strike damage and reduce a fairly decent amount of energy.

In order to nerf frost shards a little, I propose that it takes away 3 EP per turn for 3 turns instead of 5. Anyone's thoughts on this?

I support this.

I thought the same thing, really silly I burnt 7k on meteor (phy) only to see Frost Shard, this only begs for the inclusion of swappable Add ons.

Give frost shards 5% EP drain per turn for 3 turns, ability damage is unblockable
Give Frostbite 9% EP drain per turn for 3 turns, strike damage is blockable

^ 5% of total EP? Or amount currently possessed?

Total. The numbers end up at 5 and 3 with base EP at level 35 (Which is what most things seem to be balanced around), but become slightly more effective against people with larger pools. This also helps it scale as the level cap rises, because people will naturally have more energy on average as it does.
It also prevents it from being too powerful at low levels, where max energy pools are lower.

Every energy drainer in the game scales in some way to your power, this one not doing so causes it to be OP at low levels, balanced at level 35, and UP at anything above when the level cap rises.

I had an idea.

Make it more effective the longer the battle lasts. EX:

Frostbite:
3 first turn
4 second
5 third
6 fourth
7 fifth
Taking a total of 25 EP
Strike damage block-able; effect not.

Frost Shards:
2 first turn
3 second
4 third
5 fourth
7 fifth
Taking a total of 21 EP
Damage delectable; effect not.

You realize that doing that is damaging to the game as a whole, right? It just encourages even more builds that end the battle as soon as possible, which is one of the most damaging things in this game currently.

The two worst things in this game are:
Encouraging short battles
Putting a pseudo-cap on battle length (IA special)

Ahh, didn't think of that.

It'd work good for lower levels, but I guess it wouldn't work. Thanks ^

I dont think its overpowered since it is also deflectable, but I would suggest the base damage of frost shards to be 85% primary wep damage

@Frostblitz: That still doesn't help the issue that this core is OP at low levels, and will become useless as the level cap rises.

Sorry. I meant 85% of what the damage your primary can do. Not just the primary damage.

Yes, this is total BS.
It basically just took everything out of Frostbite, by being better because it's unblockable.

Now lets make Credit Cores that are better versions of all the Promo items out there.

How about Azreal's Will with 100% damage? Seems legit.

@Frostblitz
That's not what i'm talking about at all. Read the posts above you about the energy draining.

I support it... frost bite is very rare and expensive core...

because you know you had to buy frost destroyer...

seeing this frost shard core is irritating...

I agree field medic should be able to fix it, the combo with the poison from botanical bot is way too oped.

Anybody doing high damage with poison has high focus, in which case it means they aren't using their superpowered regular bot attack. Balances itself out.
Anybody with low focus doing this is doing less poison damage, and generally is going to be weaker in general because of how much better 5 focus builds are than everything else.

That's an issue with EMP's disgustingly high energy drain, not the botanical bot.

Botanical is also extremely effective when your heal's on cool down.

If frost shard is overpowered frostbite is overpowered as well.

That's the point...? You have to use it at the proper times.

It's the same as Frostbite only thing with it is that it's unblockable but deflectable. :/

Frostbite is also reduced in usefulness due to it being on a weapon with a locked core that literally does nothing in pvp.

FrostBite has 1 turn of warmup and Frost Shards don't. Devs should also do something about that.
