Or does the link have to be .jpg?

 Unfortunately, Twitter images follow a completely different image format, so you must re-upload the picture as either a JPEG., JPG., or GIF.

I suggest using Imageshack or Tinyurl.

There is actually a way to convert a twitter link into a .jpg/.png one :D

For this example, I'll use one of my twitter images.

1. Click on the twitter image, but do not let go of it.
2. Drag the image (You should see a little translucent copy of your image being pulled along) into the URL textbox.
3. A different link should pop up in the URL textbox, and it should look like this.
4. Repeat step #2, and a link like this should replace it.
5. Remove the :large from the end of the link, and the pic is in .png format!

Edit: My pic was in .png format in this case, which is not a .jpg, but if your link has .jpg at the end, then you're good :)
Edit2: Here's an example of an image in .jpg. (Do steps 1 - 5 on this link, and you should end up with this link :3)

 Ingo: I was thinking of something like that too.

However keep in mind that the method mentioned above will only work if the original image was uploaded as a JPG./JPEG./GIF. Also, Image size is also not controllable with Twitter links (as opposed to using Ms.Paint). If you do decide to use this method, be sure to check your image's format and size by directly downloading it and checking it's " Properties". If it's over 10KB or isn't saved as a JPG./JPEG./GIF., it can't be sent to SeaHawk.
