When will the Dread War End?

We've heard your feedback about the Dread War and many players have made it clear they're ready for it to end. Well good news! We’ve been working hard planning exciting improvements to the current system. When we first conceived the Dread War, our goal was to implement an event that could provide perpetual engagement, but over time, a few weaknesses in the system’s design have become apparent and the war has become a bit stale. The current war is complicated, it never ends, it doesn't offer enough rewards, and there is no focal point. This post will explain how we intend to overhaul the current system, and offer up the key points of the proposed new war system. The details are subject to change so please give us your feedback so we can build the best system possible. We believe by borrowing the best ideas from previous phases and prior wars, we can craft a system that is simple to understand, extremely engaging, perpetually rewarding and really, really fun!

As you can see, our dry-erase board breeding program is progressing nicely.

A Sense of Urgency
Currently, The Dread War is a global conflict without end. The lack of focus and lack of duration means there’s never any urgency. In past events like The Frysteland War and The Infernal War, there was a clear set of victory conditions. With War 2.0, we hope to recreate this sense of urgency by limiting the scope of the War to one region at a time and structuring it as a race. The War will last until a specific set of conditions are met by either alignments’ forces (we expect these regional conflicts to last roughly 1-3 weeks).
When the War in a particular region ends, the environment will visually reflect the winners, and the region will remain in control of the winning alignment until it comes up for contention again in the future. Prizes will unlock for the winners, and the top participating players and factions will be made famous (in a similar fashion to the Infernal War). After a small cooldown period, the next region will activate and the war will continue. The victory conditions in each region will vary to keep the conflicts interesting.

Streamlined Gameplay
To a new player, the current War system is baffling. Control points, cooldowns, and other obscure systems are extremely challenging to convey at a glance. As we develop War 2.0, we’ll be streamlining many of the old systems. Mechanics like Influence, Flag Captures and World Dominations will remain, but behave differently from the current system.
The gameplay mechanic will evolve from a constant grind for control, to a more focused system where both alignments are racing toward very specific goals. Each regional War will be a race to complete the given objective and whichever alignment fills their global war bar first will win the battle and take control of the region!
PvP battles will remain the main driver of conflict, however, Influence will no longer be earned at the end of battle. Instead players will earn Influence by depositing new "War Drops" on War Objectives within the region. These drops will be similar to the grenades in the Infernal War in that they will drop after winning a PvP battle. War Drops will be thematically tied to the currently contented region and can be anything from missiles to computer chips, ammo crates, bricks, cakes, plants, metal, bullets, etc. Players of all levels can obtain and use these items, maintaining a very low barrier of entry for War participation.

Showoff
If you fight hard to be the greatest champion EpicDuel has ever know, you deserve a place of honor. With War 2.0 we hope to give greater exposure to exceptional players who make the greatest contribution to the war effort. Interactive leaderboards will display the leading players and Factions for each alignment. At the end of each regional War, the bravest, most dedicated soldier will be displayed prominently until the region is contested once again.

War Prizes
By defining a clear beginning and end for each regional War, we can offer real rewards for the victor. At the end of each War, players on the winning alignment will gain access to exclusive prizes. To add variety to this experience, players can select a prize from a list. These prizes could be never-before-seen weapons or currency prizes like Credits and Arcade Tokens. Each region will draw a new set of prizes to choose from, and the prize pool will continue to expand as the regional wars progress.
These rewards will only be available to those who participate on the winning alignment, and they will only be available until the next regional War begins. We will also be adding additional levels to each regional War achievements. If you’re at level 10 or close in any of the regions, you’ll be able to battle your way to an even higher Rating Point score!
Also, the highest scoring player at the end of each day will receive a War Hero achievement. This achievement will have a tracker to record each time you qualify for this prestigious distinction.

EpicDuel Evolution
War 2.0 will herald a new phase of EpicDuel development: EpicDuel Evolution. This new phase will be unlike any before it – over the last few months we have been gradually building tools and tutorials to allow EpicDuel’s future to be directed by a force more powerful that the mighty Titan himself: our Community.

Over the years we’ve attracted some amazingly talented and ambitious players. Our player base may be much smaller than AdventureQuest Worlds, but the level of talent is no less. Our intention for EpicDuel Evolution is to allow more input and direct involvement from our players to influence things like content creation and balance. If you were shy about contributing content or ideas to EpicDuel, now is a better time than ever to express because soon we’ll be offering the resources to make them a reality!

We're aiming to activate the first region on Friday, March 7, but as usual this is just an estimate and could be delayed if development demands it. Stay tuned for more details as this exciting new feature evolves!

I like the fact that it's got things from all of the previous Wars, and the fact that it won't be all over the place. It should be more competitive as it's only in one region (maybe the whole area counts as a region: Fortune City, Wasteland, West Naval Yard), but I think that there should be more rooms in some areas. When there is a conflict in West Naval Yard, there are only 3 screens to play with - plus there are only 6-7 Worlds which doesn't help too much. Maybe there will be something done because there might be lag occurring as one room might have over 20 people.

Phase updates tend to be the longest waits so I doubt any major updates will come out but we might get some bug fixes between now and then.

The content creator sounds the most promising to me

Well on one note unlike with the other development they are saying from the start there might be delays. But have to ask does this cheevo update have to do with the capture cheevo as well? It would be nice if that one updates as well since I already got level 10 with that one.

Aren't you guys taking their words too literally? It sounds more like they've been using current Omega as a build-up for new features (Evolution), and it'll start soon. And most likely making it easier to implement player suggestions (weapons and maybe even cores), and easier way to balance - something along the lines of PTR perhaps?

And, IIRC, Charfade has confirmed on Livestream (yesterday) that Omega is not going to finish anytime soon.

That could be possible, yeah. But I doubt it'll classify as a new phase as a whole - such as Beta, Gamma, etc. These two Auxes are Goony's recent creation, and we've been also told (on Livestream) that Char will be taking on few new Artists to create new stuff - 2046808/Brian is creating new faces, Goony has made some items in the past + these two Auxes, and there was someone else.

Perhaps, these Auxes could be an extension to the Omega promo - just like Delta Knight was.

I have reached Level 40, so now I am free. I will make things and suggest them for ED, maybe not suggest them until April. :/

Gone in the sense that you died so the medic gave you a shot of adrenaline in hopes that they would have to fill out less paper work.

We don't know how this evolution is going to pan out so that is the best analogy I can give from what I have read

Players who have signed a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) are sort of being crash test dummies on this feature, but the content creation will be open to anyone who shows some talent and is able to meet the criteria that will be provided via a Google document. The idea that Charfade has is to provide guidelines, tutorials and templates so that budding artists can submit art to Nightwraith. This way the Epic Duel content can be created by the community.

At this stage, I had some flash auxes that I had been working on. I am now using the Google drive tutorial provided by Charfade to meet the requirements for the art, so that it may be included ingame. It's great for me and I expect that other budding/novice artists will gain access to the document when it is closer to completion. The tutorials are designed to help artists in many ways and to provide a glimpse at what is required to be a commercial artist.

I am happy to be helping, in a small way, to create content and test the tutorial for other EpicDuel community artists:)

Not sure how the balance content will be managed, but I expect that it will be developed with the same basic guidelines/processes.

I don't quite recall, but I'm pretty sure part of beta was called Beta Evolution as well, so this would just be Omega Evolution.

Those dry erase boards grow up so fast :')

In some ways It's a shame to see Omega end this quick, and another phase so soon seems a bit odd as we've expected phases to last a year or so. Will be interesting to see what what it brings and who it caters for this time, hopefully the newcomers with the aforementioned tutorial system.

I have a bad feeling about this war 2.0. I just hope that it turns out well and none of the scenarios in my head become a reality.

You also said this with Omega phase that it would be the best and bring new stuffs. But we all know the failure that is omega.
Sense of urgency? This pointless war has been on for a year already.
What about the past points of exile or legion? It will be nothing?

Unless you live in a planet closer to the sun, it hasn't been a year. It's been about 8-9 months? I can't remember, but I know that preparation started around in May last year. It may have started earlier, but it was announced around May.

Hmm... Some things I can think of:
  • Legend Mode
  • Players having a different colored name (blue)
  • New War system
  • Tutorial (suggested in the past by many players)
  • Counting system for how many times you beat an NPC or win the Daily Championship
  • Cores
  • Promos coming back after a year (you don't have to spend $50)
  • Daily Missions
  • Mission Chains
  • Evolving a Yeti
  • Passives to active
  • Better Arcade
  • Robots which transform into YOU in battle
  • Vehicles which you can turn into
  • Vehicles which aren't bikes
  • You can alter stats
  • When you click your Level icon, you see your build and stats. The stats have a colored name.
  • Reworked Skill icons

    Players have done little to help the Developers, and once they release something, some say they suck. Shouldn't you be suggesting things for a game, which is owned by a company that is open to suggestions?
  • Players suggest a tutorial system, it's in-game.
  • Players wanted a bank, it's in-game.
  • Players wanted an emailing feature, it's in-game
  • Players wanted a tournament, the Developers added it for a while

    Unless you have other reasons to believe Omega is a fail, then tell us, then the Developers can improve it when they read it.

    i like the idea but i think will fail with the past exile always has the most players so exile will win so if i wanted to win i would have to disband my faction and and change to exile. but i like the fun so wont change.and that means wont play as much and wont bother with the new war much then.the main problem with the game is that no one has thought of a way to balance the game yet they have all tried and no one has succeeded yet that one of the reasons lots have left.we have had no balance for weeks now and no update for another 2 weeks ,and so it goes on.i don't play much now because of that.hope you think of a way to do it but has never happened since i started playing.so lets have a free exile/legion change one a month or something like that so we can jump to the strongest side and balance,or have smaller factions say 6 a side. so good luck with the game and hope it gets better,
