 Not just this year, but meant to be applied for future years and any similar events as well:

-As long as you are logged onto the same server you get gifts regardless of world or room. In order to make sure this doesn't inflate the ED economy ridiculously, the rewards from gifts are drastically reduced (for items like arcade tokens, their drop rate is reduced instead).
-When you receive a gift, it is automatically opened and a simple notification shows up in the bottom-right of the screen telling you of its contents. This is to partially work with the above suggestion but also just for mere convenience
-If you want to gift to only specific people you can change your gift to target only the room where you are in. Mainly for use of gifting specific friends and whatnot

These are mainly to make this time of year less stressful. It's always a huge pain for everybody to freak out and try to organize themselves into a room, and then start crying when they miss a lot of gifts. Might I comment that it's also downright disappointing that some people behave the way they do during this event, IE: people lying on twitter all the time to try and move people out of a cluttered world so that the liar can get into the gifting event.

Gifting is not time zone friendly too, most gifters on the leaderboards are from north and south america, so basically whenever a gifting is held, only a specific amount of players get use of it, while most are whether sleeping or doing stuff. I don't think this problem could have a solution, but well, I think it's up to the gifters, since devs can't really do anything, but then you can't impose on gifters certain times of gifting, although it's game breaking and unfair to certain players, if devs see the statistics of when gifts are being sent, they will find that most of them (80%+) are being sent in the same 3 hours of every day.
