Why did they make it blockable? It was already weak, now you made it useless and more crappy.
Massacre builds got more nerfed now. Undo it already please.

All melee skills are blockable, don't see why Venom Strike should be an exception. Venom Strike is also very strong - I can attest to that as all my CH builds use it as their centerpiece.

If you block Venom Strike, you still get poisoned. You just block the melee strike. Even if they went back to the old ED system where a Block would make you take 0 damage, you'd still get poisoned. If you have a high level poison and get blocked, then the poison makes up for the reduced blocked damage. And yes, even if your poison goes through and your opponent doesn't heal to cure it, a single block can be the difference between either your victory or your total defeat. If you wanna be sure you win and not get blocked while poisoning someone (which is still not 100% guaranteed; for winning, not for poisoning), switch to a Tactical Merc as grenades (which TLMs have Poison Grenade) are unblockable and undeflectable.

It was made blockable due to it being immune to the cyber yeti's special IIRC. They changed it so other than massacre no other skill would be unblockable damage wise.

quote:

Bug Fixes:
Venom Strike isn't affected by Cyber Yeti's shield
We made Venom Strike blockable to address this issue, previously the unblockable nature of Venom strike prevented the shield from having an effect

Hatchling Rush isn't working (I.e. Deal damage and costs EP, but effect does not appear)
Players who completed the Dragon’s Return mission chains can help others fight Merged Dragonoid
Deimos now Energy
Phobos now Physical

Honestly that just nerfed the class even more. Same thing with static charge being blockable. Those were unique functions of the hunters, especially cyber hunter which lacks offensive moves.

It wasn't unique. It was unblockable like toxic grenade.

Thematically it makes sense so I don't have a problem with it, especially since the poison damage itself is already ridiculously high. It's just better to improve the skill in a way that actually improves it rather than undoing a change that simply modified something already dysfunctional about the skill.

@Bling: I thought it was pretty unique, and I think it should definitely be unblockable again

I used it on those STR/SUPP builds who always put Ice Shield on for those 2 extra turns.

The thing is as a BH massacre build, the poison is totally useless, because the build needs energy/supp/str and cannot include dex in it as well. Making poison blockable not only nerfed both the classes but buffed tlm as compared to ch and bh.
And yes block damage is very important as it usually takes 200-300 on rage and when blocked you lose completely, it should be returned to as unblockable since the game isnt played by many people anyways.

Tbh I think it should be unblockable again. Alright, being unblockable was strong, but guess what, it does 85%.
Maybe for focus being blockable or unblockable is the same, because it will deal weak damage anyway.
For strength build it's important, because it is just weak now, 85% damage and can be blocked. This kind of build for CH need high support, high health, high energy, high strength and also high tech because of venom strike. The less important for this build is dexterity, and the chance of getting blocked is really high.
It wasnt a problem because poison, static charge and massacre were all unblockable, but now just massacre is unblockable. A big problem, and more now that its so hard to use that skill, since all classes can easily drain your energy.
Why you keep nerfing worst classes? TMs have been really op for a long time and you just make the other classes weaker? Just because you thought that it was weird that venom strike was unblockable, and what's the problem of it? It was unique as TBK said. Why it has to be blockable like all malee skills? Why it has to be similar to all these skills?
Sorry, but I dont agree with your idea of making it blockable.

Please explain this reasoning to me because it literally makes no sense.

Well, I've been here since just after Beta closed (well, I haven't been in the forums until recently), and I have seen all forms of poison. Personally, I don't see a problem with blocking poison. Over three turns if you do maxed poison, you're still doing 300-400+ total UNBLOCKABLE damage. Personally, I used poison on my BH (and later CH) and sometimes its blocked, sometimes not...but even with a block, you can still win if played well.

Using Massacre with Venom Strike is not really a good strategy. Massacre has HUGE energy requirements (literally the largest energy consuming skill in the whole game, if I remember correctly), and really using ANY skill that has more the 170 energy requirements with it is going to force you to seriously jack your energy, which will make your other skills suffer.

If you want to use Venom Strike, the build that seems to work best is to just go tank. Reasonably high hp, high dex, high tech....that way, you can just outlast your opponent, dealing guaranteed damage each turn. With high Dex, you'll have a good gun skill, and if you do your skills right (particularly at higher lvls) , the high tech might even give you a decent bot attack.

Either way, Mass/Venom Strike is a bad combo, because you essentially need high everything...in which case a focus build is better overall.

I don't mind having Venom Strike be blockable in the least, additionally, because it does make it fair to other opponents. Poison entirely negates the principle behind super-resist/def Focus builds, and is quite devastating to them. Often, on my Focus TM, if I had not blocked the initial attack in Venom Strike, I would have died quite quickly. When you consider that many of the most popular builds around have a very low block chance, being blocked now and then is not that much of a problem.

Venom Strike would just be too terribly OP if it could NEVER be blocked. There must be weaknesses to everything (even if those of us who use skills would LOVE to just be able to have epic pwnage with it), and blockage is the weakness of Venom Strike.

As a last note, there are passive primary cores that increase your likelihood of dealing full damage and decrease your chances of being blocked. They aren't a fix all, but they do help. Also, check out the block-chance data in the balance data post at the top of the Balance Forum section. That will help you figure out how to reduce block chance.
