Gives you an Element Shield (1 turn, reduces Darkness damage by -50%). Has a level-lock mechanic:

If (MonsterLvl-PowLvl)≤4, then you get the full effect.
Otherwise:
Delta = MonsterLvl - PowLvl -4
Penalty = (12-Delta) / 12 (min 0)

The Element Shield reduces Darkness damage by -(50*Penalty)% (Note: Shows as a multiplicative boost in-game). If the monster is 16 or more levels above the PowLvl of the spell, then you don't get the Element Shield.
