Dialogue
The Nest

???: Exactly!

Messimy: I saved some of these children from something different than magic...
Messimy: Not all monsters use magic, you know... some are almost... human.

Messimy: Yup! Sorry it took longer than expected, but I chased away most of the pests. Our food stock should be safe for a while now!

Messimy: Forgive my manners. As you might have guessed, I'm Messimy.

Messimy: I'm glad you decided to come over, I trust Grace explained some things to you?

Messimy: In a way, since I came across some of them when I was a regular adventurer, I decided to take them under my wing.

Messimy: We traveled through Swordhaven and met Lady Jaania there. She gave us shelter and heard our stories.
Messimy: She jumped up so fast, it scared some of the kids. But within the next hour she had ordered for this orphanage to be built.

Messimy: I know you had trouble with us in the past and I would be gullible to believe that it won't happen again.
Messimy: But I hope you can see that a Rose does not just have thorns, it also has soft petals and a pleasant fragrance.

Messimy: I understand, and I don't want you to take sides, but please keep us in mind if the time ever comes.

Messimy: Thank you.

Messimy: Well, we have some help coming in, but that won't be for a while.

Messimy: I appreciate that and gladly accept your offer.
Messimy: We'll make sure you'll enjoy your stay here, Grace is an amazing cook and the children are all very sweet.

Messimy: Work starts tomorrow, but for now... we dine!

Nest Robber

Messimy: What's going on here?

Messimy: Nobody is in trouble yet, just tell me what's going on here.

Messimy: A mage? Is that true, Timothy?

Messimy: Hmmm... I see.
Messimy: Does anyone else here feel the same?

Messimy: Don't be shy, if you feel the same, do raise your hand. I promise I won't be mad.

Messimy: That looks like enough of them... Very well!
Messimy: I'll report this to Lady Jaania.

Messimy: To ask her if she can spare a Magus every once in a while to teach you about magic and how to properly use it!

Messimy: I'd rather have you safely learn how to use it than to experiment with it and hurt yourselves!

Messimy: I told you I wouldn't, you have a good heart, Timothy. And I know that with the right skills, you'll be able to do a lot of good.

Messimy: So now that that's out of the way, let's eat!

Messimy: Good morning, <Character>! I trust you slept well?

Messimy: That's good to hear, we try our best to keep it that way.

Messimy: Did you think I would report them to Lady Jaania with ill intent?

Messimy: I understand that way of thinking and I thank you for not reacting too fast.

Messimy: Well, you know most of the story, I joined the Rose when Lady Jaania decided to build the orphanage.

Messimy: It's... complicated. I've seen entire towns burnt down to the ground, lives ruined by powerful curses...
Messimy: But on the other hand I've seen healers who took care of the wounded, mages who protected their cities with all they had, I can't just ignore that.
Messimy: So if the kids here want to learn magic, I won't stop them.
Messimy: I know they're all good kids deep down, but some have seen things many won't in a lifetime, I feel the need to guide them.

Messimy: Thank you, <Character>.

Messimy: Oh, there you are, Cole.
Messimy: <Character>, this is Cole. He's working as a janitor here.

Messimy: No need to be so grumpy, Cole. <Character> is our guest.

Messimy: What was that?

Messimy: Ah that's right, I was hoping if you could take <Character>, to the basement for our little pest problem.

Messimy: Cole.

Messimy: I'm sorry I had to cut our conversation short, <Character>. It's a busy time.

Messimy: I'll see you at lunch?

Messimy: I'll just pretend I didn't hear that.

Messimy: That's great to hear! I have to apologize about Cole, though.
Messimy: He's... lost a lot to magic and resents it now.
Messimy: He's an absolute sweetheart to the children, though.

Messimy: He makes all their toys and fixes the small things in the orphanage, without him this place would be in a whole different shape.

Messimy: You have no idea.
Messimy: So, how about we have some lu-

Messimy: What was that?!

Messimy: Let's go!

Messimy: Who are you? And how DARE you attack this place!

Messimy: Did he just... turn into a rock?

Messimy: <Character>, can you handle this? I'll protect the kids.

Messimy: I think you made him even angrier with that.

Messimy: You can never be sure with something like this, he turned into a rock before, who says he can't turn into water.

Messimy: I don't know... We don't have anything of value here...

Messimy: Much appreciated.

Messimy: I swear he's a nice person.

The Price

Messimy: I heard an explosion! Is anyone hurt?

Messimy: Was it that... thing again?

Messimy: I remember he said about the same thing last time he came around... I wonder what he mea-

Messimy: Timmy, what's wrong?

Messimy: It's ok, Timmy. It's gone now.

Messimy: How do you know this monster?

Messimy: Poor Timmy... The stress was just too much.

Messimy: Timmy... He has seen things no person ever should, let alone a kid.
Messimy: When I found him, starved and dehydrated, he was lying outside of a charred village and grasping that keepsake of his.
Messimy: He was the lone survivor.

Messimy: That's what I always thought happened... He never spoke much about it, only about how his parents protected him until the end.

Messimy: That monster can very well be what destroyed Timmy's village.

Messimy: Perhaps.

Messimy: I don't know what to think, I just know that there's bad times ahead.
Messimy: Can I count on your help, <Character>?

Messimy: Thank you, <Character>. Now, let's take Timmy back inside. He needs his rest.

Messimy: Ow!

Messimy: Y-Yes, it's nothing. Here, I'll take Timmy, and you... can you get his keepsake?

Messimy: Let me put Timmy to bed, then we have a lot of planning to do.

Reinforcements

Messimy: I don't...

Messimy: I...
Messimy: He should have been safe here... I take all these children here to protect them, and now danger comes looking for one of them!

Messimy: I know...
Messimy: I know, but still, these children trust me, look to me for protection! I'm like a mother to them! I should protect the Nest no matter how!

Messimy: Spit it out, I'd like to hear it.

Messimy: <Dragon>! Yes, I've heard many things about them!

Messimy: I appreciate the offer, but you really should stay here. What if that monster attacks again when you're getting <Dragon>?

Messimy: Telepathy?! That can only happen when the bond between the dragon and the human is incredibly strong!
Messimy: Or so I've heard...

Messimy: Do it.

Messimy: Good thing Cole doesn't have a say in this matter then, I'll handle him, you call your dragon.

Messimy: Well... It wasn't easy, but I got Cole to agree to the plan. I had to appeal to his own protective feelings towards the children.

Messimy: Looks like the kids like them!

Messimy: It's a pleasure to finally meet the famous <Dragon>!

Messimy: Oh, I wouldn't call them-

Messimy: TIMMY!
Messimy: We have to protect him! <Character>, <Dragon>, can you take care of the company? I'll get Timmy out of here!

Be Prepared

Messimy: There's something else that worries me...
Messimy: So far we have seen him transform into different kinds of elements, and it always depended on what he was holding.

Messimy: He could pose a bigger threat than ever before. I—<Dragon> could be in serious trouble when fighting him.

Messimy: Better safe than sorry. We have to strengthen our defenses, I'm calling a staff meeting.

Messimy: As you both realize, our fair orphanage is being targeted by an evil being! We HAVE to defend ourselves, without endangering the children!

Messimy: Now is not the time for jokes, Cole!
Messimy: Although, that could work...
Messimy: The plan is as follows: <Character>, you're our front fighter, you've fought this guy before and were able to ward him off.

Messimy: I know you will! And you'll do a great job!
Messimy: Grace, I want you to take the children to the basement and prepare some games for them, to keep them calm.

Messimy: What is it?

Messimy: Oh, I see what you are getting at, Grace.

Messimy: Do you think you can get that done in such a short time?

Messimy: I understand. If you are ok with capturing some animals, <Character>, then we can do that.

Messimy: That's great! Can you also get rid of what elementals may be left from the previous attack?

Messimy: Cole!

Messimy: I want you to use your amazing carpentry skills to build a barricade to protect the weak points in our building!

Messimy: <Character>?

Messimy: I requested reinforcements a while ago, but I'm afraid they won't be here in time.

Messimy: I will be the second line of defense, to make sure he is not able to reach the children.
Messimy: Is everyone clear on what they need to do?

Messimy: Then let's not waste any more time! Let's go!

Leaving the Nest

Messimy: Are all preparations done?

Messimy: Great. Cole should be about done preparing the barricade. We're as ready as we can be.

Messimy: Chaaaaaaaarge!

Messimy: <Character>!
Messimy: I'm here! What happe–

Messimy: OH NO YOU DON'T!

Messimy: <Character>... Get <Dragon> out of here.

Messimy: I'll handle this.

Messimy: This isn't something you can do without <Dragon>.

Messimy: Don't worry about me.

Messimy: You're NOT touching MY Nest!

The Nest - Epilogue

???: ENTER!

Messimy: Hello again, <Character>.

Messimy: The one and only.

Messimy: Pushing daisies? 6 feet under? Off to the boneyard?

Messimy: Well... As you can see, I'm still alive.

Messimy: There lies the rub... I sustained too much damage from the dragonbane and slivers of it remain in my body.
Messimy: They're preventing me from going back to my human form. The best I could do was to shrink to a more... manageable size.
Messimy: But what brings you here?

Messimy: Bless her heart. But she wasn't wrong. I'm hiding in the woods, I'm big AND dangerous as well!

Messimy: Guilty as charged. I may not be able to go back to The Nest in this form, but I can still protect them!

Messimy: Thank you. But I get the feeling you have more to say, questions to ask.

Messimy: You have helped my nest, kept my children safe. You may ask anything you want.
  • Your human form?

Messimy: I've always liked that form more than my current one. It's small, convenient and doesn't make people run in panic when you enter a town.

  • The Rose?

Messimy: I've explained this to you before. I joined them because my children needed shelter and Lady Jaania was willing to fund the orphanage.

Messimy: I doubt it... I somehow feel that Lady Jaania knew exactly what I was, like she looked right through me and saw me for what I am.

Messimy: My best guess is that she saw my intentions and knew I would never harm the children.

  • The Nest?

Messimy: What I have told you before was part of the story.
Messimy: I did start The Nest to give my children a safe haven from all the experiences they've been through before I took them in.

Messimy: However there's a reason I started taking in these children... you see, I have always wanted children of my own, but...
Messimy: ...a curse prevents me from having them.

    Messimy: Yes.
Messimy: A long time ago, I was the kind of wild dragon you read about in storybooks.
Messimy: Plundering villages, gathering loot for my hoard and eating the occasional livestock.
Messimy: It was the only life I knew. It was how my parents acted, and so too, did I.
Messimy: It was a simple life, and looking back at it... not a fantastic one.
Messimy: But it all changed when some villagers put money together to hire an adventurer to slay me!
Messimy: The adventurer found my cave and challenged me to a battle. But rather than eating him, something else happened.

Messimy: I fell in love with him, and judging from his gaze, he fell in love with me.
Messimy: We spoke for hours and hours, about humanity, about the pain and suffering I had inflicted on those poor townspeople.
Messimy: Later that day, we returned to the town with the happy news that the dragon had been taken care of...
Messimy: ...and the body removed to prevent it from turning undead.
Messimy: I was introduced as his new partner that he came across on his journey to the dragon's lair.
Messimy: The townspeople were a little suspicious at first, but...
Messimy: Then we told them about the location of my lair and the treasures I had stockpiled there.
Messimy: It was more than enough riches to pay for the damages I had done.
Messimy: ...Minus a couple of bags full of gold that the adventurer took before we returned to the town.

Messimy: No. He still happily took their gold.

Messimy: We traveled together, took jobs where we could, got paid for helping the towns we've been through.
Messimy: Sometimes... when we were tight on money, a dragon would appear near a town and started threatening it...
Messimy: ... and then, miraculously, a traveling adventurer would appear to get rid of the beast. For a price of, course.

Messimy: I did... I was in love, I was stupid, I was used.
Messimy: We kept this up for a couple of years. As my love for him grew, so did my blindness.
Messimy: It was during an actual mission that a disaster struck. We had been hired to get rid of a witch that had been stealing children.
Messimy: We found her, and after a long battle, we managed to strike the final blow.
Messimy: However... with her final breath, she cast a curse on me. If she couldn't have the children, then neither could I.
Messimy: My heart broke, my dreams shattered and my adventurer... he left me.

Messimy: Apparently he had had a crazy, half-baked plan to have strong half-dragon children in the future.
Messimy: Now that I couldn't have them anymore... he had no use for me.

Messimy: Like I said, I was blind to his arrogance. Blinded by love and mesmerized by his charisma.

Messimy: Thank you, <Character>. But I've tried everything to no avail. Perhaps it's a part of me that doesn't want it to work as a punishment for my misdeeds.

Messimy: The more I think about it, the more I think it was meant to be.
Messimy: I had to repent for my troubled past, and because of it, I have helped many of the children in the Nest.
  • That's all

Messimy: Yes. I will stay and protect my Nest. I will keep watching over them. And... please tell Grace that there's nothing to worry about.

    Messimy: No.
Messimy: I don't want her to see me like this again. She'd try to convince me to come live in the basement or something.

Messimy: Thank you, <Character>. For everything.

Messimy: If you ever require my help in the future, you know where to find me.
