Why are the date ranges for legacy achievements messed up?

I'm not going to post this as a bug because there's probably a 0% chance that this will be fixed after the fact, but....

I noticed right after the update last year where people were awarded legacy achievements (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Omega) based on their account creation date that the date ranges for the phases was wrong, at least for Beta.

Beta ended on 8/4/2010 and the achievement went away on that day. That is a fact. Yet I see tons of people running around with accounts that were created as late as October of that year that got the achievement following the update last year. I didn't bring this up at the time because a bunch of my own alt accounts got it for free this way so, ya know.

However, it definitely bothers me that such an error could have ever been made.

I wonder what dates ranges were actually set for these achievements and why?
