So I've got some extra DC doing nothing and I'm thinking about changing my base class from warrior to one the other mostly to get access to the Artea classes.
Is cryptic or ascendant worth the cost of change from rift walker?
I've seen people over the years hype them up so I'm wondering if it's worth it.

Riftwalker is pretty good.

Cryptic is way more worth it than Ascendant, whose role is generally supplanted by Technomancer, Ranger, and Chaosweaver.

Yeah, change to rogue to get cryptic if you are going to change off riftwalker. My alt was a rogue and I changed to mage to cause I wanted Ascendant and I regretted it ever since.
If using cryptic you will have to split investment across both INT and DEX to get the most out of the class.

However, riftwalker is also very viable between the high damage and low cooldown shield.

Ascendant's main issue is its rather rigid rotation to maintain its high damage and its mediocre defenses. As AstralCodex said, it is largely supplanted by other high damage classes that are either less hindered by weak defenses or far better at bursting.

Cryptic has absolutely fantastic defenses; a cheap, strong, and low CD albeit unreliable heal; and strong offensive skills. It is the best defensive class in the game because of this combination of high sustain and nigh-permanent shields.

Riftwalker's buff helped it significantly in damage and its shield makes it able to defend against the strongest attacks of every rotation.

I don't think I've played rift walker since it's been buffed I guess I'll try it out again but might go cryptic then as my build is very dex and int heavy. Just thought might be worth the change as I do prefer more tanky classes as glass cannons just don't work for me I just die to easily.
