The forums activity is anemic....so..

Alright, so obviously the item can be swapped from 2x lucky strike damage at half rate or 2X lucky strike rate for half damage.

And it pairs pretty crazy with Arms of the Dragonguard spells.

I have always favored luck over several other stats over the years. I like it more than dex on non pure variants. Always have, probably always will.

However, some would argue, and rightfully so, that 1.5X lucky strike damage is pointless. 1. There's no point in hitting damage caps when the HP of a monsters is almost always much, much lower. 2. Boss monsters damage cap makes this worthless to use in a boss fight.

While it certainly does make for a good argument, there are several items and other ways that this item, in combination with hypercrit, enhance a player other than just trying to Nuke.

Namely:

1. Pet Lucky Strikes- A. This damage enhancer for pets is no joke. And since lucky strike damage is universal, even Pure builds with non booster pets will be getting much, much better pet damage.
B. Pets with effects that utilize damage, get better effects. Meteiod/Cometoid Jelly, Fae's, some heal pets. Also, Essence of Carnage Guest heals better since it's based on damage. All these get HUGE increases.

2. Heal Spells- Need a bit better heal? Get celerity, Get hypercrit, heal. Probably full healing now.

3. Dragonlord Shields/Gandolphin- Need the HP barrier to get a boost? And a significant one? Frostval Crown it.

4. Necromancer Grasp Essence- These spells healing is based on damage, and although bleed and fear consumption is the best damage enhancers for it, hypercrit + the crown still makes for some crazy good Hp/MP healing.

5. Necromancer anima barrier- Greater barrier post-spell. Someone claimed it getting lucky strikes was a bug. I doubt it, based on the skill's description. Go re-read it. If it's still considered bugged, change the darn description. But getting a nice HP barrier boost is nice here with the crown.

6. Other items- One such item I have used is Sham's Offhand Bliunderbuss. Gives an extra hit of the weapon element held, if you lucky strike on that turn. 1.5x damage for lucky strike can result in quite large hits.

Lastly, here is where I personally feel as though the item shines the most. Strategically speaking, 1.5X lucky strike damage is overkill 9 times out of 10. It ends battles maybe a little faster and in some battles not much faster. Monster HP is low enough that lucky striking using say, overcharged stuff, is kind of pointless. If a monster has 5k HP and you hit for 10k, then who cares unless you're just enamored with the large numbers.
But what about pet toggles, or spells and weapons that take on a damage penalty to have effects applied? This item more than offsets the penalty, while keeping the effect.

The item has changed the items I use, at least some of them. I can now use a spell, for example, that seemingly does less damage for effect X, but now can make that up with this. And if other damage boosters are also applied, such as ele vuln stacking, etc, you're getting overcharged + damage with the effect and this new damage attached to the seemingly lower damage spell/skill/attack is still killing monsters in the same time as before, just with the added effects.

For example. I would never have carried Seeing Red/Jania's Orb of Power on a regular basis. Fae's let me at least toy with it, but on the surface the damage for the panic effect is quite low. Versus 95%, Seeing Red just hit for 139, 154, 155.

Now switch to some boosts: (Spellcaster Lean, arcane cutlass weapon, troposhield) -> After hypercrit w/ boosts-> 1026, 1225, 1926. No booster pets equipped, too. Now, sure, an overcharged spell would probably double or triple this damage, but is 9k+ damage necessary? No, actually, it's not.
So you're bringing a weaker spell/skill/attack *UP* to what's necessary while having an effect applied if need be. It's like saying, I could Nuke an entire city in War, but I only need maybe a 4th of the City destroyed to do the job, so instead lets use a tactical nuke. So...

I said all that, to ask..

What do you do with it? Just nuke? Or is there something you've discovered or changed to because of it? Discuss!

Just a balance note:

The frostval crowns and by extension the blue/red server caps are currently bugged and don’t work with the hypercritical status correctly. This is because these miscs only consider base lucky strike rate/damage, and hypercritical does not modify base LS rate (or at least modifies base LS rate in a way that does not properly interact with other types of effects which adjust LS rate). As a result, you can effectively end up with free bonus LS damage with no downside.

Imry has plans to address this in the future, e.g., if you have 100% LS rate via hypercritical, the effects from the crowns/caps would properly lower it to 50% (i.e., lowering it be half as intended)

First time writing on the forum. I also got the Frostval Crown but unfortunately i don't have Dragonguard Arms. Can the Crown be useful even without this Spell?

A little detail, as an Adventurer player (FO Warrior), i don't have acess to Level 150, i'm capped at Level 135 (Adventurer cap), my stats are distributed in 250 in STR/DEX and 175 LUK, this way, i think that the Crown is way less useful for me.

Those are really good ways to use the Crown.

I recently changed to Dex Beastmage from Luk, so I probably won't be using the Crown in a while.

Man, everyone's always talking about damage caps. I've played for years, gotten tonnes of Z-token packages and items, and I'm not sure I've ever hit it- except with my fear eating character.

I suspect the game's max damage caps aren't that relevant when you're not min-maxing the game- if y'all aren't, maybe I'm missing something.

Also, the crown has either been fixed or I had an unlucky streak the other day.
