I already have a pure mage that works with armor skills and spell enhancing pets/spells/items/weapons, but I want to try out a different style of mage. Any suggestions? Could a beastmaster mage work? If so, what would I need for that?

Beastmages generally play FD with tomes to save up spell slots. 250 Int/Dex/Cha gives the maximum bang for your buck.
