Excited to see what this year's BF sets will do! Art looks amazing already. One gripe I have is that it's looking like Fire and Darkness element again? I get that those elements fit the theme but we need other elements please. Also hoping for a return of the other Doomlight variants as well as past year's BF packages

Doomlights are released around April every year

But in regards to past BF sets, I can tell you a couple of things. Idr what was released in 2020, but I can tell you that the 2021 Chaosborn sets could use a revision due to the Nemesis powercreeep on dodgelash. It would be nice to bring them back and touch up those armors. The weapon/shield are 100% fine.

In addition, I saw several comments this past year that pretty much said "I regret not getting Infernal Champion" I know it would sell like hotcakes if brought back.

Also, yes, fire and darkness sets may hurt the 2023 sells unless these are just ridiculous level good, since we 1. Always seem to release a darkness BF set and 2. Infernal champion from LY was fire.

These look pretty cool! Interesting effects. But honestly I'm not sure how I feel about all these new items having more and more penalties to squeeze in more effects. It's cool but it feels like it is min-maxing a lot lol

Seeing as they brought back Infernal/Abyssal Champion- the big question is which ones are better? Champion seems favorable for myself as a Beast Mage

This year’s set seems underwhelming as it’s the same elements as last year. Any chance of re-releasing chaosborn sets from the year before?

Yeah, that seems to be the case. I'd totally buy one now if they returned though.

Alright. Thoughts on these sets after getting 1 and thinking on things a bit.

Fallen Angel Set

First of all, having a darkness set catered to Beastmasters means this directly competes with Necromancer. That in itself likely means fewer sets will be sold. Secondly, the set is catered to Beast Warriors. The BeastWarrior builds are not very common and ones that do typically run those builds almost always utilize boosters, which were exclusively excluded from the upkeep discounts. Beast Warrior is by far, the worst Beast Variant out of the 3. If staff had done the right thing and pivoted and fixed the pet/guest BTH formulas before this release, this build would be a bit more played. While BeastMage has the same BTH issues as BeastWArrior, it has several other aspects going for it that a Beast WArrior simply doesn't have. Offloading upkeeps onto MP is a huge win. Mp healing is easier than SP healing. There are far far more items that help alleviate some of the downsides. For example, una poca costing SP isn't a big of a deal for a mage as it is for a warrior since the warrior is using sp guests . No warrior is using either Neko subrace. Warrior lean should have been implemented prior to this item's release. Also, Warriors tend to use END over LUK in many cases for EO fuel and a beastwarrior certainly gets hampered here. Also, there's no FD warrior Lean yet, and the things this armor does aren't enough to really make it a playstyle. In fact, I don't foresee the Warrior Lean being all that huge until monsters become more challenging to FO builds.

All of the factors above make this set rather undesirable. While it seems to perhaps be a peak into the window of things to come post stat revamp, not piece-mealing the changes (stat-revamp) as they're vetted and tested and not rolling them out little by little over time not only keeps things dull in the game but it's put this set likely in a place where people just aren't forking out the money for it. I actually haven't seen anyone comment that they grabbed it, much less provide feedback.

Maybe the set will be very good post stat revamp, but you can't sell it for a limited time now and think people will buy it for the future with the unknown landscape of the stat revamp ahead, not to mention how everything AQ is always delayed. The purpose of making $100 sets is to make them good and to make them desirable in order to help AQ "keep the lights on" as they say. Nothing about the design, execution, or business-savvy side of this set makes any sense at all in my opinion.

Set as provided now pre-stat revamp considering everything-> 2 of 10. Set as provided if some things had been implemented to make it more attractive-> 5 of 10. Again, this set could end up 10x better than what we see today. That's the problem I have with it. Why make and sell something "that will one day be great" when it's only sold for a limited time now?

Infernal Angel Set

This is the set I grabbed. There are some things about it that are nice and there are some things about it that are odd.

First, the things that are cool on it: Another fire caster option is welcomed and nice. And an inititiative armor coupled with the caster armor is a first and is really, really cool to see. Finally that gate-kept feature can be removed from Mage catered items. Also, the omni potence FSB is very nice. I personally don't nuke in both weapon attacks nor casting very often, and so having a caster armor/FD lean armor that is great at status inflictions is right up my alley. I saw someone comment that it breaks staff's current rules on potence where you get half potence if you inflict something. This is a FSB. Therefore, it's not the same standard and thus that argument doesnt hold water in the slightest. The init feature and the omni potence feature along with the FD/caster lean swapping are the best features.

The weapon is ok as it inflicts panic and thats always nice. The armor's other skills may fit better with the FD lean than the caster lean. So there's some less than synergistic aspects here. A burn skill on a caster is not great. The burn eater for larger heal is overkill. It would have been better if the heal was halved and a barrier was added. Then eat burn for both heal and barrier, and you'd have a better design IMO. I can heal for nearly 2k . It's overkill. BArrier would work better with panic.

Now onto the shield. So the shield inflicts panic on dodge. Literally very odd. As everyone pointed this out at the beginning, it was immediately stated that there was a desire by both players and staff to swap this for on-hit-based panic..ie some backlashy style panic idea. This will be a much better result. I actually suggested it be damage scaling just like backlash. This could be capped still, but the result would be diminishing returns as panic is continuously inflicted on the monsters. Only the first couple or three hits would be significant and then afterward it'd just be very weak. I think it'd turn out neat.

Regardless, here's the problem:

We are closing in on 1 month later after they were released. While Infernal Angel is the set I'd recommend of the two sets overall, how can anyone expect a lot of players to purchase it if something on it is "on hold" of sorts? Wouldn't it have been better to immediately change the shield so that during the limited time it's sold, you'd be able to maximize as many sales as possible? Putting off this change isn't business-savvy. Sometimes the business side should dictate the work required.

To recap:

Fallen Angel's design is so intriguing I wanted to talk myself into it. But it literally is designed for something that doesn't really exist. Beastwarriors that use traditional pets/guests doesn't really exist. And if warrior lean had been implemented already, others would think that set would be a nice addition to that newfound playstyle.

Infernal Angel has some nice things about it, but it needed the shield changed before that week was over to maximize sales. While there are aspects I'd personally change (other than the shield), all in all it's not bad at all and is the set to grab of the two.

Infernal Champion from LY, which was brought back, is better than both by a mile. If I had to choose of any of the 4 available, especially considering it's the same 2 elements (another issue), Infernal Champion is the set to get even though it doesnt have a full set bonus and should.
