I restarted this thread because i found it an invaluable resource when I was starting out at flash. Seeing as LBB's got locked, I restarted it.

There are tutorial lists, and feel free to ask any questions you want. We'll try to help you.

Its something I made to teach a student of mine, their might be a few mistakes since I use flash 8, but there both pretty similar.

fair play, i don't know who uses flash anymore lol. The tutorials are out of date, and so is most of the first post.

I use flash...suck at it though. Is there any easy way to animate in flash without having to make keyframe, motion tween, and then something else(I can't remember the tut well)

Keyframes are what define the animation, Keyframes is when a change happens, E.g if you want to introduce a new colour or something completely new, where as motion tween allows you to move stuff over to different positions using normal frames. Those are the basic components to animating in flash I'm afraid you need tog et used to them.

YYYaaaaaaaayyy!!!! It's done! (but subject to updates)

Ok, it's been a while since I made an update to my little pet project. That's because I've been busy with a major update for it, which is now finished and has been (I think) successfully integrated.
Now, I know alot of you won't be really impressed with what the update is, but try it out anyway and tell me what you think. It's at the little icon on the lower left of the VSE (virtual space environment) screen. Anyway, here's the link, it'll take you directly to the Flash app, bypassing the website that it's on.

Anyway, I'm going to put up a thread in the multi-media area to attract more testers, let yall know about updates, ask your opinions, maybe help too, that kind of thing. I might put it up tonight but I don't know.

Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this code?:

onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
function reset() {
_root.Char.Wep.Attack.gotoAndStop(Atk_detail);
reset();
}
}

The frame before it:
Atk_detail = Wep_detail;

What I'm trying to accomplish is to make the attacking animation trigger when I enter the frame (And by the way, The Char is your Charater, Wep is the weapon MC inside the Char, and Attack is the MC inside Wep that contains all of the animation MC's in a certain frame.)

First off, put that function definition in onClipEvent(load)

I'm not a huge fan of using Movieclips for coding (actually, not at all xD) but at least you'll have some semblance of an init function.
Also gives you less of a headache when you have more code to debug, lol.

Is the code ON _root.Char? Because if it is, replace _root.Char with 'this'.
Also, is Wep_detail defined? Doesn't seem to be.

i need some help, im doing a spaceship animation, but i cant import the soundtrack (knights of cydonia-muse), it keeps coming up with the message one or more files could not be imported because there where problems reading them, and ive tried downloading different files of the song but it has the same effect. if someone could send me a version of the song that worked or find a solution it would be really helpful, because i cant do anything else till it starts working

@Eragon: I have this code on the exact frame I want to start the attack, so wouldn't have to be enterFrame, not load? And thanks for the second part though! However, Wep_detail is defined in the first frame of the entire flash document, and is later changed as you change your weapon, which is why I have the reset function for it as well.

I need help making a preloader for a game. I looked at the preloader available for download at NG, but it's not what I'm looking for.

As the game loads, I want a portal to open according to how much is loaded: if 50% is loaded, the portal is half open, if 90% is loaded, it's almost completely open, if the loading slows down, so does the portal etc.
Oh, and in case it makes a difference, behind the "doors" of the portal is like an iris-like light, kind of pulsating constantly, independent of the loading time.

Could someone help me?

If you can't find what you want try this:

You've got your basic iris animation in the back, the door frame over that, and a short clip of the opening doors in front.
You might put an actual numeric representation of the percent under the images too.
The iris animation should just loop over and over. The door frame is just an image. The doors need to be 11 images long: totally closed in the first frame and then open a little more over the next ten with fuly open on the last frame. As the percent reaches ten, twenty, etc. have the door clip advance one frame until it's at 100 percent and then door is fully open.

I know that this isn't a technical answer but maybe it will help you modify or build a loader. NG has some good tuts on making preloaders too so you might try building it by hand.

flsg: That one uses a code to make the bar longer, it doesn't explain how to make an animation of doors opening - it won't help expanding the door's width.
Taerzik: That kinda helps, but what I really need help with is the coding. I don't know very much about coding, so I don't know how to make the door clip advance with the percentage.
I'll try NG though. Haven't really looked at the tutorials, just the downloadable preloader :P
Edit: I tried a tutorial on NG, and as far as I can tell, it's working flawlessly! Thanks for the tip Taerzik.
