I remember when you could reply to suggestions for DF, MQ, and AQ. Why did AE take that away? It was a very usefull(and used alot) feature. Spam, maybe?

You can still reply to suggestions in the AQ board, and you never could reply to them in the MQ board. Replies for the DF Suggestions board were disabled because that board had a ton of problems with people flaming other users.

Oh, can't they just ban them? Shouldn't AQ's suggestion reply feature be taken away, too? The AQ and DF suggestion reply tool is the same. They could flame other users on AQ forums.

It hasn't been much of a problem for the AQ Suggestions board, but it was a huge problem in DF Suggestions before the change. It made moderating that forum incredibly difficult.

Do you think now is possible to add that again? or make a poll for suggestion?

There's a few reasons that DF Suggestions doesn't have replies.

Firstly, the board does not have a lot of AKs. Our AKs (while they do an absolutely AWESOME job) can't be online 24 hours a day cleaning the board. They have other priorities. And we don't have a lot of them. So it got to the point where the board was pretty much impossible to moderate. Switching the board to reply-only has reduced the amount of work our AKs need to do drastically, making it easier to get that work done.

Secondly, the board had a lot of trouble with people posting replies. Several members of the forum would post in their own (or their friends') threads to bump them to the first page, violating forum rules by doing so. There were also a lot of issues with users flaming other users. Typically if someone didn't like another user's idea, instead of offering constructive criticism, there was a lot of unpleasant posting going around which didn't always get caught (due to the board's sheer size).

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, the board's current organization is much easier for the DF staff to read than the one system was. In order to get ideas from players in the old system, they'd have to dive through pages of threads *and* pages within each of those individual threads, making it almost too much of a hassle to do. The streamlining of the DF Suggestions board has made it much easier for DF staff to see and gather ideas from the forum without potentially good ideas getting lost in the shuffle of bad posts.

If you need to interact with another person about their suggestion, you can still use the PM system to accomplish this task. It saves our AKs a lot of work and it's fairly easy to do, too (just hit the "PM" button on their suggestion thread's first post). But as far as DF Suggestions goes, the board could not handle the massive capacity of posters if it allowed replies.

Constructive

I see a disadvantage of the PM-criticism system, which would be that other members would not be able to collaborate with the PMs sent, since...well...they're private.

I'm assuming that something like a "Suggestion Discussion Board" (similar to the UCaG OOC, for instance) wouldn't be possible due to moderation constraints, but I still think it would solve part of 2 and all of 3.

If you somehow managed to kidnap more moderation, would something like that be able to work?

Theoretically if they had the moderators, there wouldn't need to be a separate forum for discussion. In fact, a separate forum would make it harder for them to keep up with it.

Basicly at this time the DF suggestion board does not allow replys because there is not enough AKs. So if they get more AKs then the reply option may open back up eventually. The reason why AQ suggestion board allows it is because of a) better community or b) more AKs to manage the area.

What about MQ? Does it have the same problem as DF?

MQ suggestions has never been open to reply, but as it doesn't have its own team of AKs (all MQ GD AKs have power in MQ Suggestions instead) it seems unlikely that it will get a reply feature, as it would probably suffer a similar problem to DF's board
