Hello fellow Writers!

I've been looking through stories through the Archives and notice a proceeding pattern. There are no indentations in every paragraph due to HTML stuffings in forums.

I am currently writing a fanfiction for the AE online AQW, myself and introduced a fancy indentation teachnique which cheats the Forums in a good way! Brilliant, if I say so myself.

Here are demonstrations using a random excerpt from my piece ( The Drow's Daughter). Durp.
quote:

_____ Seenzes snorts, half way finished with his plate. “Your jokes seize to be humorous. Grow a funny bone, will ya, Cap?”
_____ “Only for you, Sneez,” retorts the bemused boy, taking out a broccoli from his dish.
_____ The ghoul beside me pokes a hologram of a faerie. “These are beautiful faeries,” says Croup, in an absent minded manner. “I feel like dancing…”
_____ “Please not another one, Croup,” chortles Elias.

And another example of indentation.

quote:

_____ The ship is set on course, travelling at a slower pace than usual at automatic mode.
_____ Everyone is asleep except Croup who joins me wearing pyjamas with fluffy clouds printed all over it. He comes up from behind me scuffing the floors with his trimmed claw feet. No wonder he likes mopping, he's making marks all over the deck with the short talons on his toes.
_____ I brightly comment. “Nice PJs, Croup.” I think I’ll buy him bunny slippers to match with them.

There you have it.

Now to place indentations of your own in your stories please follow these directions:

Step 1: Using the underscore key (like what you put in hotmail accounts and usernames: _hello_see_the_line_)
Underscore 5 times.
Like this: _____ See? It's usually 5 times a tab in every paragraph. Dunno who made the rules. :/

Step 2: Now change the colour of the random blank line
Using the button above, called "color" (American spelling :d )
It should now look like this, in red for example: _____
But the BEST colour for an indentation - and the less annoying colour for it - is white! It does not appear in Quote Boxes too! :d
Like this: _____
'Tis awesome.

Step 3: Finally by posting your paragraphs,
Simply copy the indentation code you made for _____
Which is this:
_____

And place it in every beginning sentence of your paragraphs.
Like this:
_____Hello! You just made an epic spacey indentation! Congrads! I should continue to ramble on for another paragraph but you can all ready see many indentation examples above this tutorial. So tally ho! Must I continue? Is it working, I trust? Right. So the entire purpose of this tutorial is to make masterpieces look infinetly more gorgeous! Not that they weren't all ready. I just spazz a lot and have nothing else to do.
_____Oh look another paragraph! hurr hurr.

NOTE: Remember to properly place the indentations before your topic sentences. Or it will look like a random-line-with-no-purpose.
Like this:
_____
Hello! You just made an epic spacey indentation that doesn't work! Congrads! I should continue to ramble on for another paragraph yet again! But I believe you get the point?
_____
Oh look another paragraph with a random line hovering above...um. _____ Whoa. <-- What is that one doing there? Argh! 'Tis getting sloppy! _____ __Hello children___ D: That's creepy. The indentation spoke to me!

Sincerly,
*--psi

It's fine to show, but teaching is another thing entirely. Also, you cannot tell people what they can and cannot do on these forums. That is a job that only an AK of that forum or a moderator can do. Please do not minimod next time. ~Eukara Vox, Head L&L Moderator

For forum writing, we simply use the addition of an extra space to take the place of indentations for a new paragraph, as this makes it easier to read. However people format their stories is fine, as long as others are able to read it well and understand where the breaks occur.

However, there is a better way to do your indentations. Your code
_____
makes things look like this:

_____<---I can see this line.

But, if we change that code to
_____
it takes on this appearance:

_____<---Whoa, no line here!

For the most part, people have gotten used to having paragraphs split up by an additional line, rather than indenting each paragraph. Unlike the restrictions of the physical page, there is less space limitations on digital space. Personally, I've gotten quite used to the way paragraphs are handled in L&L and prefer it this way. But if anyone would like to use these indents, they are welcome to, as long as the document remains easy to read.

Edit: I went and took a look at your story and I have two comments. First, I found the little white lines very distracting as I read through a part of it. Second, I felt myself not wanting to read on because it looked like everything was smushed together and every other line was indented. Typically, in paper documents, this is nullified by the fact that a paragraph is five to six lines long or more and therefore there doesn't seem to be as much back and forth. Here, with most people using wide screens at high resolutions, it looks less pleasant to read.

Oops. o.o Sorry, I screwed up. All right, thanks for the update though! I must go back a fix a few things.
