"A Girl, a Smile, and a Rose" I came upon a marvelous sight as I was walking down the road,
A lovely looking girl, cuter than any story ever told
could hope to have between its covers, and all of what I see,
A girl, a smile, a bright red rose, all as perfect as can be.
There must be something of that rose to have her show such care,
Some perfume or some aura that could keep her sitting there.
She doesn't seem to see me watching, does she even know I'm here?
If I call to her, she'd run away, she's shy to me I fear.
From afar I watch her twirl the flower in her gentle hands,
Gazing as she dreams of queens and magic in fantastic lands,
Somewhere she can hope to go to leave the pain of life behind
And maybe take me too, to leave me here would be just too unkind.
I look upon her more and think some plan has been already made
To go and take a step away from all the games that life has played,
Escape into that peaceful place she knew awaited her beyond
The limits of a dingy town with weed-filled parks and a dirty pond.
She sits within the border of the only pure life known for miles,
Enjoying all the time she can, ignoring all of life's hard trials.
A moment seems to last for days as on the flower bed she waits,
Knowing that soon she'll return to life and all the things she hates.
Maybe if I talk to her she could avoid her dull life longer.
We could start and never stop, our magic world would grow still stronger.
Suddenly I notice in her smile there's a bit of grief,
It pains my heart to know that I could offer her relief.
I wish I wasn't such a fool to see her longing for a friend,
I'd go and be the best she's known, inseparable until the end.
There's just no way to know how she'd react without me acting first,
But I feared more rejection's sting, a pain in which I am well versed.
It makes no difference now, I know,
What could have changed had I just chose
To go and introduce myself to her,
The girl with the nicest smile.
The girl who now I visit alone,
Her name carved into her gravestone.
My last memory of her remains,
A girl, her smile, and a bright red rose.
