<Thread is subject to change: including location! Thanks Hay.>

It came to my attention that, in spite of going through the rule book several times a week - due to making threads that aren't Admin approved (*gasp* the title makes sense for once? LoL.) in spite of all that, I continually am getting sent BACK to said rule book to read them. Again, and again, and etc.

So a thought occurred to me. Why not make a thread that lets me/us ask for approval BEFORE we go and put tons of effort into something that's fated for deletion 9 seconds later? (That's my record, fyi.) It should make sense: hope onto the thread, fill out a format about what you want to do, get it stamped(?) for clearance and go make an awesome thread?

So next, discuss: do we need one? Would YOUR life be easier for having this?

Same question to you, admins: would this be easier, to gather everything into one place - you/we/they know you love that veteran's trick - instead of weeding out the bad threads amongst the proper threads?

<beginning countdown. 1... 2... 3... (?)>

Generally, I'd hope that the rules are clear enough that such a thread, in any board, would not get much use at all. On the other hand, if you want to bring up a controversial/unusual topic, then you can always PM the Head Moderator of a board to ask if that would be ok; again though, I'd hope that the majority of threads that any one person is posting aren't controversial/unusual, and so the cases where approval need to be sought are few and far between.

Also, as a Head Mod for several boards, I would prefer I was PMed about the above in my boards, rather than having to check several threads, to answer the "Would YOUR life be easier for having this?" part of your question.

... Meep. Well, as for that, I could argue it would see extensive use. I could, but that's irrelevant right now.

More importantly, I originally posted this in the AQW GD (with good reviews all around) and was surprised to find that a majority of the posters were having similar experiences with the "put tons of effort into something that's fated for deletion 9 seconds later" portion of the topic.

I can't say if the rules are crystal clear for the majority, since if anything I speak from the minority.

All I CAN say is that - as far as I know - a PM box has far more limited storage than a thread.

Chaos!

@Valnos: The Moderators have a big PM limit exactly because of that ;)

As Gnome said, if people work hard on their threads, they should also check:

a) How the discussion can go with the topic or theme proposed.
b) If the thread is respecting the Universal Rules and the board rules.

You can have a perfectly well-written thread, but you must also keep in mind threads aren't locked for their first message in all the cases, but also for the replies inside it. If someone really took his time writing a thread (or plans to), he should also take some time to make sure everything on it is according to the rules (and as Sir Gnome mentioned, PM a staff member about it if he feels some doubt in any aspect of it, or if he feels the rules aren't "crystal clear" for him) so that his work won't be "deleted in 9 seconds".

If this Idea were to be applied, there is a chance that over time, people will just start posting in the 'Approval Thread Section' instead of the actual Boards that they relate to. This would incur a massive workload for the Staff to either Accept or Deny each and every thread. Whereas you could pm the Head Mod of the Board that you would be posting in and they could give you some helpful tips as to how you could make your thread a safe and enjoyable one for you and your fellow forumites.

And adding to what Kain said:
There needs to be some thought going into posting a thread and many questions that need to be asked before posting. Such as "What will other people be posting", and "How can I unsure that this thread doesn't instigate flaming/trolling etc". Because even some of the most cleanest topics can still rub people the wrong way. So for example, your thread that got locked in 9 seconds could have been perfectly okay for whichever Board it was posted in (or it might not have), but the reason that that specific Staff Member locked it might not be because of the thread itself but of what could have happened afterward with other forumites posting.

EDIT: @Jacob5: Thankies. =)
