When it comes down to being successful and competitive in this game, fame and achievements are useless. I personally don't care whether or not a number on a separate webpage increases by 1. I might get an achievemnet if it has a funny caption or an awesome picture. One of the reasons why people play games like ED is to escape from reality. Escapism, though unhealthy at high levels, is beneficial at low levels. I have no problem with people roleplaying since its a valid stress reliever, esp when one has unfair and miserable living conditions. However, I draw the line on how much a game consumes reality with things like fame. When things like fame make an individual self-concious in not only the real world but also the virtual world, the game takes up more ofof one's life than what it is supposed to take. I'm not a psychiatrist, but I know for sure that mental illness could result. In short, I don't support anything related to fame since it will place more emphasis on things that best left for reality, not for the virtual world.
