That's really confusing , is ED going to Die or the be Off forever?

quote:

In his Design Notes post, Cysero established that ArtixEntertainment is against SOPA/PIPA. These are bills introduced in the US legislature that seek to prevent online piracy, but represent a gross abuse of power by the United States Government. These bills, if passed, would give the US government the power to take down websites suspected of hosting copyrighted material without due process. For example, Twitter could be taken down because of one user using a comic book character (like, say, Batman or Deadpool). Individual web users face serious consequences as well, with performance of a copyrighted work (eg. a video of yourself covering a popular song) becoming a felony with punishments up to 5 years in federal prison. Even works that fall under Fair Use or Satire or derivative works face serious legal consequences.

s for AE and ED,Its so lousy of a bill that if they DO make an arrest for something as out of place as covering a pop-song... they should expect a LOT of resistance and I'm sure someone in office will be scapegoated and removed from office... that's how bad I think this bill is.

And about AE and ED, they should be relatively safe after cutting out famous and copyrighted ideas SUCH AS THE CAKE IS A LIE. I do see some good coming from this though, pirated property like songs from your favourite band will cease and they can success further and stay around. It may also promote originality in productions like our AE games, so I won't be absolute about it until we see some considerable issues arise.

no.....this is a great example of propagating mis-information on the web....the law, which i'm against, would hold US websites responsible for blocking international websites that violate US copyright laws.....US websites are already held liable for copyright laws (including AE)....in addition, if you are not a voting US citizen....there is nothing you can do about it

AE is already a US website and anti-copyright laws already apply to it.....this has nothing to do with AE....unless they provide links to non-compliant sites...geeze

this proposed law....is intended to not allow US access to international sites that violate US laws....AE is already required to be compliant with those laws since it is a US based site....arg :(

google and youtube are at risk because they frequently link to non-US sites....the law is crap....but AE, in my opinion, shouldn't be creating an uprising in their user base...it will most likely have no effect on them, should the laws pass (which is highly unlikely) ....for the most part, very few here can do anything about them....unless they are of voting age in the US and are US citizens

I honestly dont think SOPA will last for long, if it even get through. Some really big companies have clearly said that they not want SOPA/PIPA. Obama also said that he not will support this, and will do as much as he can to make this not happen. When Wikipedia (and many more sites) had that blackout on januari 18th, 18 senetors changed their mind.

35 senetors like SOPA/PIPA, 18 dont like it and 35-isch have not yet decided. Anonoymous did also hack FBI today, and they are planning on to hack themselves into the white house (rumors only). And SOPA have not yet started. It will be chaos. AE has been right (AQW). This is the year of chaos O.o

I think the thing AE fears is that, SOPA/PIPA affects them not just with their Puns.
If I for example upload something of EpicDuel and I put a song with it on Youtube,
both Youtube and AE could be sued for copyright infrigment even if unintentional...

at least that's what I think

you are exactly right andy....and since AE doesn't allow ppl to post links in the forums....it's sort of a mute point

God those bills are confusing, The way I see it IF someone uploads an ED video with a Song On Youtube

Then Youtube would be Double sued due to copyright infrigmenting both AE"s Rights ( Video ) and the Song's owner Rights...
Then ED would also be sued for the Song...

Did that make any sence at all

andy.....it would only be youtube (the direct link) that would be held responsible....not ED....and only if the posted link violated US copyrights laws.....AE is already required to be compliant with the US laws and i don't think they have registered any copyrights on videos taken during game play

@vix....if that's the case, then it's just because AE is over-reacting to proposed registration that doesn't even apply to them, unless they have been violating US copyrights....ugh....which they have had no problem so far...so i highly doubt that :(

@ Mira

It's not that they are allready Breaking any laws, it's that they Could be breaking laws if the Bills are in place.
The things that are in place now that are legal could become illegal when it becomes active...

Inconceivable!

EpicDuel is not getting shut down. As of today, the SOPA act has been postponed indefinitely, so there's no need to start spreading rumors like this.

Since the SOPA in its current form is basically dead at this point, there's no need to panic. That being said, if you want to to continue discussing the SOPA, there's still a a thread in the OOC. Please direct any future discussion of this bill there. Thanks!
