Have you ever lost a battle in EpicDuel? Maybe you have. How did that feel to you?

How does losing feel in general?

In my opinion, losing in EpicDuel always has bad feelings tied in. If I had to say why, it could be due to the lack of honour and respect incorporated into ending a match:

  • death

  • victory taunt

  • instant disconnect by the victor

And here you are laying dead on the battlefield with nothing but an offensive bloody skull centered in your screen, obviously pointing out that you did not succeed.

There is something unpleasant about losing, and I would like to hear about what you have to say regarding the event.

    quote:

    PLEASE SEE:

Do not post insensitively saying things such as "suck it up, its a game", I can bet you one hundred dollars that someone will post along those lines. If you lacked the spine to be able to remark this, does that not show any sign that you are one of the people contributing to the malice in our world?

Please avoid accusing people of misbehavior, if you have urgent claims, please see a staff member, such as an ArchKnight or the Lawman.

We are all accepting of your opinion, there is no true need to be uncomfortable.

Usually if I lose it's because I took a chance I shouldn't have, Example, oh I have 20 health left, he won't hit that high.....Crit....Crap!!! lol So I just play safer for a while afterwards.

And what is your reaction to this loss, if I may ask?

I want to post this because I have the intention of improving the EpicDuel experience for every single person, because no one wants to be treated the way they do not wish to be.

It's natural for us as humans to not like losing, just as no one likes coming in second. When I lose I feel happy for the other person and try to figure out how to improve next battle :).

I try and react the same to a loss as I do a win. We cannot win all out battles, here and in life. So no point in dwelling on it.
Learn and move on with respect. :)

That is definitely a good outlook in a competitive game Battle Elf, do you have any suggestions to improve the end of match screen?

I have opposing view points on this.

One part of me says that this game is about war and war is often offensive and crude. Taking away anything would be a type of censory.
The other part of me says that this is a game played by children-teens who shouldn't have to be subjected to that type of scenario.

As Cinderella mentioned on the LiveStream, EpicDuel was immediately aimed towards older adults. Once they joined Artix Entertainment they did have to censor some of the material in-game (E.g Giggity Emote)
I don't think the end screen is that bad, but I do understand if younger audiences see it over and over it might not leave a good feeling.

I guess overall the only real suggestion I could give would be to make a friendlier image instead of a bloody skull.

I was once at a lecture where the lecturer claimed that we often have a fundamentelly wrong perception of winning and losing. When ever we enter a competition where 2 or more people compet to be victorious, there will always be someone who lose - actually, most often the number of losers wil be masively higher than the winners.
We all want to win, but it lies in the rules of any compettition, that there have to be 1 or more losers.
So if you instead of feeling down when you lose, try and see it as a learning experience - rejoice in the fact that you meet a player who did better than you and you might even be able to get a couple of pointers as to where your weakness lies, so you can improve, and better your chances of winning.

I love it when im able to beat someone who is of higher lvl than me - the higher the better thrill i get. But sometimes i also get beaten by someone whos much lower lvl than i am. But it stands to reason, that if im able to beat others, there will also be those who is able to beat me. So i usually just tell myself that it was their turn to to win. And if the winner is lower lvl, then i usually follow up my "gg" with a "well done - your strong"

We all win by luck sometimes. So i think its a perfectly valid way of winning. Im usually pretty happy if im up against a person 5 lvls higher than me, and i get a lucky win. So i also write "gg" and sometimes also a "YAY" because i really think that it was a really good game, to be able to make that win - even if it was by luck. Sometimes its my oponent thats the lucky one - and then it was just hes or hers turn to get one

Would anyone consider the current system for handling a loser a form of documented trolling? Mockery or contempt by the design of the losing screen + the actions that occur?

    quote:

  • death

  • victory taunt

  • instant disconnect by the victor

And here you are laying dead on the battlefield with nothing but an offensive bloody skull centered in your screen, obviously pointing out that you did not succeed.

If I lose against a noob, or a lower level who I should have totally won 90% of the time, I usually just rage at myself IRL but don't say anything in-game.

If I lose against a STR BM or a Supercharge TM or something, I usually say "As usual" if it's the 4th BM I've fought in a row.

When I play, and I lose against Valery, I start to rant about how OP she has become. >.>

But actually, when I know I should have lost, I don't think much, just click 1v1 again. When I lose a perfectly easy win, I rage at myself a little IRL, and when someone gets lucky and says "HAHA NOOB" I kinda want to throw a brick at them.

Doesn't bother me, but I'm an adult. However I could see how it would bother a younger player.

If I lose to someone who has a better build I don't mind, if I lose to a strength BM or because of luck I get a bit mad.

I go into battle expecting to die.

"If you go into battle expecting to die, you will live. If you go into battle hoping and expecting to live, you will certainly die." Bushido code(I found many different variations of this quote mostly about expecting to live or hoping to survive but all the to same meaning in the end so it is close to the real code)

So when I lose it depends on what I am doing, if I am making a new build I record why I lost and what class and level the enemy was and I include if they are Varium or F2P as well as the style of the build. If I am just fighting to fight I expect to lose every fight because I did not pay while most cap players did pay and thus have their varium edge and the right to abuse enhancements and OP'ed builds to their hearts content. Of course F2P's have the right to abuse OP'ed builds and enhancements as well it just doesn't come as easy to us as it does for Varium players.

I thought something like "All I have to do is Keep my Losses about 500 Less than my wins"

Then I saw someone with 10k Wins and 300 Losses.../Facepalm at myself

They should really just take out the Win/Loss Record, or at least the Loss anyway...I litterally sweat when I go into 2vs2...

That many wins with only 300 losses is insane, I am at about 13k wins and 3k losses.

I'm pretty sure the Player was Soul Prisioner (On forums) he had a pic of himself like 2-4 days ago and he had somewhat 10k wins and 291 losses in 1vs1

I admit, sometimes a string of losses gets under my skin something fierce, but on the whole I try not to be perturbed by a loss seeing as luck is an uncontrollable factor, sometimes you make a mistake and sometimes the other person just has a build that your own build can't beat.

Not a comment about the mechanics, layout, and visuals of ending a match anyone? I would like to re-suggest more respectable emotes at the end, a less aggravating status symbol (iron fist for victory, bloody smiling skull for defeat), and forced respectable quotes for players to output whether they want to or not.

This is not CoD after all, we can bring honour and respect back.

Honestly on symbols on win/loss I'm completely unperturbed by them, don't even notice them really.

    Edit: "win/victory" durp XD

the only thing I've ever gotten mad about with losing is that:
heres what happened, this mage was about to kill me with super charge, and halfway through the attack he disconnects.
but i still lose. when this happens, shouldn't the attack get canceled?

other than that, losing doesn't bother me that much. it just tells me that my build needs to be reworked a little.
after i lose, if it wasn't due to luck, i play around with the build for a while until i find something that i think will work better.

other times when i don't like the loss, its because the other guy got all the luck, crits blocks deflects.
BTW this is not flaming or anything its just my opinion.

also @liy010 10k wins and 300 losses. that guy was an npc fighter, obviously.

and when i miscalculate and lose, i take that into consideration in my next battle. i try my hardest to learn from my mistakes.
