Why is there 10 pages locks (or 30 if the thread was made by staff or a DN)? Doesn't seem to be a reason why threads are locked after they reach a certain number of pages.

Miscellaneous reasons like forum space, threads are deleted over time to clear up memory but an active thread won't be deleted. It also makes it less daunting to those joining the conversation late, instead of trying to figure out where to start in a 50 page thread, they can read through the most recent one.

Longer threads also tend to have a harder time staying on topic, so pushing the restart button after 10 or 30 pages makes it easier on that front as well.
