OK, I know this is VERY controversial.

But what if we made a thread, and everyone who posted there with a character page link would get the 100 point achievement, "EpicDuel Socialite"?

Hmm I like this idea but it seems to easy. I would say you should get an achievement if you are a vivid forum user and get like a 1k acheevo

Sure, but announce it on DN's and stuff so people can sign up
Some new blood is always nice ;)

And maybe make it that everyone on forums with 1000+ posts can post on a thread that is looked at weekly by a dev and they can award those players with a 1k points cheevo

I don't mind it

Sounds like a good idea. It might even attract more people to the forums and we can get more input for more of the community as well.

There is already one forum related achievement and thats enough ( ArchKnight Achievement).

Achievement just for creating an account and posting one post? Too easy. And people would also create multiple accounts to get achievements for their alts.

I can see people posting pointless posts just to get their post count up to get this achievement.

Why should Forumites get an achievement for being a forum user? You don't need a to have one, some people are not allowed, some people cannot due to their age, it would be unfair.

@Mother1
Majority of the people that will join will just make an account, post on that thread just to get the achievement and just leave.

@Blaze The Aion Ender
That is so unfair, you have to have 1000 Posts? People would spam for this.

it shows you are an active forumite
and if you spam, as of the forum rules, you can be banned

This is a tough one. I both agree and disagree.
Agreed on that there could be done something with achievments for regular forum visiters.
Disagree because of the fact that people will spam the forums even if they can get banned for it. It's in the human nature.

This will require AK's to be much more active that's for sure.

There are already too many people who have more posts and fame than wins.

Not supported. It's not ForumDuel.

After seeing the title, I initially thought that this would be based on how active a forum user is. For example, the amount of posts(both threads started and comments) someone made. I like the idea of getting an achievement for forum activity, but I don't think it should be because someone commented on 1 particular thread. It would undermine the purpose of the achievement if anyone can just make an account to comment on that 1 thread for it.

Not supported in the way it is now.

There are definitely benefits to such a suggestion going through - for example, new users registering and hopefully becoming active users. Unfortunately, the negatives of this greatly outweigh the positives. It's good to remember that the devs DO have to go through characters one by one to award achievements such as these (and all the other ' Special' achievements). This would definitely kill a ton of time for the devs, and, in the bigger picture you'll likely be seeing less content being released in general. It's a matter of time really, and time for the devs is generally better spent in developing the game. This also adds to the workload of the AKs (and devs) in general, especially if the suggestion of having yet ANOTHER achievement for 1000 posts goes through.

There's also a couple of good points above that I won't reiterate since they've been summed up quite nicely.

Perhaps create a new rank of forum users that is allowed to reward these achievements to people
Like an AK, but only for that use
Make it like any AK application, then they have 1000 posts, post on a specific thread and are awarded their achievement
It would get some new blood, not to mention be a achievement, who doesn't love achievements
The new AK's could also help lower the amount of people trying to spam their way to this achievement
Dev's aren't wasting their time, spam is a little issue, there's a new achievement and a few new people can be AK's

Anything I didn't cover, lemme know, I'll come back and cover it

@SMGS,

Couldn't we just do a weekly sweep for the achievements? That would not take that long, and I said 100, not 1000 Rating.

We may have to give 25 achievements a week?

My main point here is really: Is it really worth the work and effort to do this type of achievement or put that into other types of achievements?

quote:

I really feel that having a new position solely for the purpose of awarding achievements as well as duties overlapping an AK's is really unnecessary. It seems to create work that could be put elsewhere, or put into a position that are really more crucial - such as a game tester or moderator, or a full time AK.

quote:

spam is a little issue

Hrm... I can see a lot of people wanting to spam their way up to 1000 posts. Remember that we are only slightly less than 15 mods and AKs working on the ED Forums, and an influx of who knows how many users will definitely BE an issue. Definitely an understatement, even if we do recruit new people to this hypothetical achievement awarding AK group.

quote:

Couldn't we just do a weekly sweep for the achievements? That would not take that long

Once again, it's just adding to an already huge pile of work for the devs, where this work could be put into another achievement or feature ingame. It won't take long? No idea, I have no idea how achievement awarding works, but these small tasks do add up. The devs do work until the second before those releases roll live, and sometimes even after them. This would have effects, short term and long term. In a few months: Could all that time spent awarding achievements to those registering on the forums have been instead placed into a feature EVERYONE could enjoy right now? (because not everyone will see that call to join the forums because you'll get an achievement)

quote:

I said 100, not 1000 Rating.

Nowhere in my post did I say the achievement would be 1000 Rating Points. I was replying to another post, I assume that's where you picked up on the number 1000.

@above:

I've noticed that the amount of achievements being awarded, especially merit achievements (which people have been asking for waaaay back in Beta) have increased greatly. I have no doubt there's a lot more to come!

I think you're on the right track by finding ways to encourage/boost forum activity and a bigger sense of community, but I think this suggestions would put the work on those that already have other responsibilities and are already busy. I really look forward to suggestions that encourage improvements in the community, this would be one of them but unfortunately the cons outweigh the pros greatly in this case.

Hmm... I remember at one time at the old EDF there was a thread with the suggestion of everyone who was a member there would get some sort of old edf achievment. I would love to see that come back. Although it's a bit hard to prove who was there and not there right now.

Anyhow, I'd say you'd need 500 posts or more to get the cheevo. Possibly 1k. Possibly 2k.

They could also hand out more Lore Master achievements to active forum members.

So, this is not necessary, even if it IS possible, it is just simply nice to meet people (new people) in the forums- but is not necessary to award these things. I have over 3000 (50%+ constructive) posts in mostly EpicDuel but do I feel inclined to be rewarded? No, maybe that is just personal, but the reward if being able to commune with staff and influence decisions more strongly is reward enough.
