I'll admit it, I created this thread partially because I'm angered by the amount of bad luck in my battles. But from anecdotal observation, luck does seem to matter much, much more than skill in a game. What do you think about it?

I have only one thing to say;
Without luck, this game would suck...
Obviously if it was about skill the higher levels would pwn even more!
Luck creates a fun time in-game, but it can also be annoying... Sometimes xD

As much as I would love to see luck removed if it were to go then Strength builds would have nothing stopping them. Blocks, deflections, stuns, and crits work with all of these, and these are what make a lot of the other builds work.

Dex builds work with blocks remove that and they lost a gear
Tech builds work with deflections remove that and part of their plan is gone.
Support works with crits, as well as strong debuffs and buffs. Remove that and part of their plan is gone.
Tanks work with both blocks and deflects remove those and they are shot in the leg.
Focus builds work with all of these as well as the bot. Remove those and need I say more?

Strength build however only use all of theses as bonus's since they are made just to destroy your opponent will all out offense and blocks, deflections, and stuns hinder them. Remove those and they will go unopposed and this game would be nothing more then strength builds without nothing opposing them.

So while Luck is annoying to some it helps keep the balance since trying to fix blocks, deflections, could and would be abused.

To be honest here, this is the first big assumption I have made for a few years... but I would have to say that it is not the luck in EpicDuel that people appreciate, it is the dynamics of any given battle that EVERYONE loves. Luck is not necessarily needed in events like blocking, which is an important factor in successful melee options.

My luck seems to suck, as I actually pulled a critical hit that was ALSO a deflection on one guy I faced. He beat me because of that. Or how Snork deflected my raged gun attack and killed me.

The luck is somewhat like the "Devs are choosing" , meaning it's not really like the coincidence that happens to every luck factor .

Strategy? What strategy?

P.S : I'm not accusing or something , but that's how i feel every time i outsmart a non-Var/Var OP build abuser , there goes bad luck .

To a very great "Extent", Indeed.

Luck is what decides a match for my build, which is the only viable build out there at level 35 that can stand a chance against those powerful STR-BH-Massacre type. Who goes first, who blocks, who deflects basically decides who wins. No matter the levels.

To further emphasize my point, I'm a level 35, fully enhanced str-bm who lost to a level 30 non-varium user STR-BH-Massacre build.

Turn 1: He started (Nerf)
My turn: Bludgeon (Blocked)
Note: If my bludgeon landed, it would have taken away 40% of his health

Turn 2: He used cheapshot (Crit)
My turn: I gunned (Deflected)
Note: If my gun landed normally, I would still have a chance to win

Turn 3: He gunned
My turn: Chairman Fury
Note: If either of my previous move failed, I'm dead meat

Turn 4: Massacre (I'm dead)
Note: What note? I'm massacred XD

I'm sorry to disagree but thats not the only build that stands a chance. I almost never get beat my those powerful STR-BH-Massacre types. It's fun to hear them tell me how lucky I am and I reply back that it's skill. But I suppose to a certain extent, luck does sometimes decide our fate.

Not support and never supported. That would mean there would be no blocks, deflections, crits, and stuns. These are the only things stopping OP strength builds from destroying the masses. Also specials would be rendered worthless since they also work with chance/luck as well other then chairman's fury. Also The hunter class would be at a disadvantage since Shadow arts increases your chance to block but in this battle mode there would be no blocks since there is no chance/luck.

This battle mode would punish Varium players for having weapon specials, unless it is chairman's fury, and leave strength builds to destroy without opposition.

I dont think it really is unless two people have similar stats. You cant call it luck when some has three times u dex and they get blocked. Luck is only when say somehas has 2 dex and you have 100 and u get blocked.
Ive had two buff tm call me lucky cos i cheapshto crit with infernal, but really theres like a 25% chance so i dont really think..

Well, i just got blocked 5 times in a row.

I had 26 def.
Opponent 21 def.

That is definetly Luck on its highest.
My opponent even said this was just too sick for words.

luck controls the whole game, nowadays calculations mean little to nothing in the game.
ex. im fighting this tech mage, i got more support, he starts first, i got more defense, he blocks my 1st attack (bot), during the end of the battle, he had 26 health,
and i had technician up (+49 tech), i bot deflection 13dmg, he aux me, i got 13 health remaining, he got 13 more hp, i aux another deflection 12 dmg, im like Why me..., then he bolts(lvl1) against my nearly 45 resistance, he crits and im dead...

Mah peeps need to realize that their so called "bad luck" is simply based on percentages, which is in turn derived from stats. If you feel like you get blocked alot, try a build with higher dex. Getting critted a lot? Get some support. I can say with almost certainty that you have no more bad than good luck.

There's nothing to do about you losing but change your builds.

Lol, i was just about to say, i had a 150+ dex build, vs a bounty hunter i blocked 0 times, for some reason if u add alot of dex to a build, you block less than a normal build.
and last time i tested it with a friend (counterNUKEmissile), i put all my points on dex, he put all his points on tech, he basically kept striking me with no dex and i blocked 0 times.

No luck might equal some builds with 100% win rate. Example, Strength BMs always get blocked (basically 1/3 times). Without that block, strength BM might win all the time.

I agree hard boy. Thing is, those percentages would balance out in the long run. If heal was more effective as it use to be matches would be longer and there would be more time for those players getting lucky at first to have it turn right back against them.

It's all the first-turn advantage.

If a battle last 4 turns, it may be 4 for player A vs 3 for player B.

Then, player A has 4/7 (57.14%).

If its 10-9, then it gets mitigated, to 52.63% for player A.
