So as of the last year or 2 I’ve started watching food network and the cooking channel as a staple (few other channels do anything for me) and a good 30 to 40% of the shows at times seem to be about cake decorating or some kind of artistic desert making. So that’s what this thread is going to be about, sorda. Such shows sort of disgust me at times, especially the competition shows; I basically hate all competition shows save for iron chief, but that’s unrelated mostly. Now that’s not to say I don’t like some of these artful designs, I to have an aesthetic eye so some please me, others not so much. Some of them don’t really look edible at times, but I don’t know if they are or not. Does anyone know if some of these art/chiefs make pieces that aren’t even edible? And if so would you even qualify it as food or sculpture? I think I’d like to see main courses done artistically more then deserts, though i feel like deserts have had a longer history of that, something about the relation to candy may have part to do with why desert like items have been decked out like this for far longer then I’ve been criticizing it, though its become more of an modern art id think now. What do you think about them though? Do you think the creations they craft are more art or more food? Well that’s enough food for thought in 1 post, ill let the rest of you have a slice of this action.
