This is the origin story for my AQ character. After considering his backstory for a while, I wrote this last night. Discussion thread: http://forums2.battleon.com/f/tm.asp?m=21092769

Arthur Dent's Origin Story:
Nobody knows who I once was. It is known that I was once an ordinary citizen of Battleon, but all information about me from that time – what I looked like, my name, my outlook on life, my family, where I came from, etc. – is unknown, even to myself, and all due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time (or, from another point of view, the right place at the right time) when a very rare occurrence transpired. I had no control over what happened to me.

The cause of his transformation is complicated. Firstly, you must understand that the multiverse is not a fixed, static arrangement but a constantly altering collection of moving parts. Universes within the multiverse are regularly colliding, creating ripples and changes in the universes involved. Since similar universes tend to be nearer to one another than dissimilar ones, they collide most often. The ripples from these collisions are usually low key and fairly harmless. Sometimes, however, the multiverse shifts to a much greater extent. This can lead to universes neighbouring others that have no relation to them. Occasionally, these universes collide, creating effects that are … profound, to say the least. One such collision occurred between this universe and one in which faster-than-light travel is commonplace, numbers are affected by one’s movements in restaurants, and there’s an infinite improbability drive flying about, making a mockery of the whole lot.

No one can say what happened to the other universe, but a single word came across the divide which appears to be linked to it. The word was a name. The name was ‘Agrajag’. The effects in this universe were no less confusing. For some reason, which none can determine, least of all myself, the ripples were concentrated on a single point, a single person. I hardly need point out that the person in question is the man I used to be. My entire life prior to that moment has been removed. None remember the person I was before, my own memory of that period is blank, there are no records of my existence that date back beyond the moment of my transformation and my very essence appears to have been altered. I talked to Warlic about the change and he theorised that I was removed from time at the moment of collision, only to be recreated from scratch. The only evidence I existed at all back then is my certainty that I did. I also know that I was altered greatly by the ripples. I was bestowed the name of one who is very important in that universe, a strange attraction to the number 42 and a preference for drinking tea. It was this transformation that lead to my decision to become an Adventurer. I know that I had no inclination to do so before. So, I talked to a few people, was given some default items to help me fight and went off to defend my town from monsters. Soon afterward, I made a successful application to join the Guardians, and the rest is history.

One thing I will say about that history is that soon after beginning my adventures, I decided that my efforts would go into maintaining balance. Where I could not manage that, I avoided fighting for either side. This is why I became a Hybrid, a balance between physical strength and magical power. It is also why I have mastered every class available to me to ensure I can do whatever is necessary to maintain the balance. There are, however, places where I must choose one side over the other. During the Devourer Saga, I promoted unity wherever possible, to help save Lore. I have also chosen a side in the battle between Donovan and Cenara. I know well that a tyrant, such as Donovan sets himself up to be, cannot create true unity, only the façade thereof. Under a tyrant, people backstab one another, spy on friends and family and many other things just to make their lives more bearable. True unity is created by a freely made, conscious, choice to unify with those around you. Therefore, Donovan must be stopped. That is why I chose to side with his half-sister.

If you have read this from the start, you will now know all there is to know about me. Therefore, I shall thank you for your patience and end this document. Goodbye for now. Signed,
Arthur Dent.
