Hello guys. I wanted to ask to you guys, can you guys please explain to me more what this Role-Playing is all about?
I've read all over again, but still I can't seem to understand what this is all about.
Please do explain to me because I want to understand each and everything I need to know about this Forum Page.

Thanks in advance

Role Playing on the forums is kinda hard to put a finger on. It's sort of like acting and writing mixed together. What normally happens is one person hosts an RP, creating the setting, making the startings of a plot, and in general making sure tings run smoothly. Then there are the people who actually RP in the RP. The people who play in the RP are the ones who truly dictate what happens, based on realistic decisions. So, the host starts the plot while the RPers continue it with the host.

The first thing to do is create a bio, short for biography. This is a document containing all the important information about the character you make to Role Play. Then, you need to keep editing it until you get approval to play in the RP. Then the story starts.

There are also rules to be observed. Godmodding, meaning making unrealistically powerful characters is not allowed. Mini-posts are not against the rules, but no one likes them much. Bunnying, or taking control of someone else's character, is also not allowed.

Any questions?

If you've read through each step already, it is entirely possible to read through what other people have submitted, particularly if it says "approved" at the top of the post. It's fairly simple to make your way through the RPing idea.

First step is to create a bio, or as Isis loves to say, bio'. I'm not sure why that apostrophe is there, but she puts it on a lot of things o.O Bio creation is one of the simplest parts of making a character, provided you already know what kind of character you'll make (see a few of the other threads for a more abstract discussion on how to make a character interesting). The following is rather bare-bones, and you may want to include other categories as the DM/GM requests or you feel is necessary. For instance, I have had characters on mounts with a short other section "Mounts:". Experiment with a format you like.

Name:
Race:

Appearance:

Weapons/Equipment:

Skill, Spells, and Abilities:

History/Biography:

I find myself never needing an "other" section, but if you need it, don't hesitate to add it.

The second stage is currently a rather controversial issue. At the very least, it is meant to represent collaboration between RPers, both OOC (out of character) and through PM. When you make a post, it is the general idea to consult whoever is affected by your post to make sure that you are not infringing upon your character's actions!

For instance, if I post my Lizzy Tamlin suddenly turning to attack TormentedDragon's Silissa and say "Lizzy suddenly rolled to the side and blew a dart that hit Silissa on the side of the neck," that would be bunnying, or taking control of another's actions. I forced Silissa to not dodge. Another rule I broke is that I god-modded, and made Lizzy go God Mode for a short time, completely destroying any chance for retaliation and instantly dropping a terrifying 20-foot-long snake woman. Generally, RP fights are cordial and fair.

But the other thing I did was I didn't consult TormentedDragon about any of this, or he most certainly would have provided some fair objections to Lizzy's actions. "Silissa would have seen it coming." "Why does Lizzy want to attack Silissa anyway?" "How did she hit Silissa but miss the Beast?" "How fast does the dart go, and how did she tumble so far so quickly? She was far away from Silissa, I can't see how the wary snake-woman would not be able to dodge that." Because I didn't talk to TD about anything, my post was not only inaccurate, but also broke several rules.

The teaser trailer in Step 2 is a way to prove that you have collaborated with others. Don't think too much of it.

The third step is the most fun step. You have to write a post, a short couple paragraphs of fun words, in order to supply "in-fun-mation" *shot* to your fellow RPers. Have you ever broken out the RP in your backyard with friends or siblings? "I AM A NINJA WITH A BIG KATANA, HYAAAAH" and then the epic sword fight? Well, in RPing on forums, you get to exercise that skill while also flexing your writing muscle. It's a little less lighthearted, though, as you really are a ninja with a really big katana (if you so choose to be - as you accumulate experience, you'll find that the weirdest characters are the most fun to play). Or a giant fish in a mechanical suit. Or a word who escaped from a dictionary. Or even a Gryphon!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! We are a friendly community, and we are always happy to help newbies get into the RP forums. Fresh blood tastes the sweetest, as I always say. Hehehehehe....

Sure thing. Others have posted I know, but for the sake of posting:

Basically someone (known as the Host) creates an OOC (Out of Character), which is basically an outline of the story, setting, and characters; it is also where to discuss and ask questions pertaining the RP. If it interests you, you make a character. This character has a name, abilities, weapons, etc, and you'll be roleplaying as him/her for the roleplay. Anyway, when the RP gets enough members, the Host posts an IC (In Character) where he starts off with some paragraphs setting the RP up. Then the other roleplays post accordingly about their characters. Where they're at, what they're doing, etc.

If you're interested, we can RP together via PM. Just shoot me a message if you're interested.

Aye, what pretty much everyone said. I'll say this though, once an RP is indeed started up, it's practically an interactive story that you and other Rpers develop, as well as story one that can be deeply affected with a single post. Why, you could outright murder the original plot of an RP with a single post, although you'd probably peeve off the RP host and some other RPers, which would most likely get your posted deleted. ("What do you mean I'm not allowed to gut the chosen one with hedge trimmers at the beginning of the RP?") .

All and all, RPing is some good fun if you're a little bit interested in creative writing.

As Ted said, RP is essentially a form of collaborative storytelling. In a story, you have multiple characters. In the way we do RP, each writer is controlling one of those of characters, dictating their actions, thoughts, emotions, responses, and letting everybody else know these things by writing it out. As everybody posts, you build a story together.

Since it's collaboration, you have to work together, so you can't step all over each other's posts and toes and whatnot. Therefore, we have all our rules (which I won't go into here, that's what the rules thread is for).

But that's the gist of it - a story that everyone in the RP builds together.
