This thread will serve as an OOC forum for competitors to discuss their tactics, collaborations, or provide additional details as to their effects. The order of the roster provided below is actually vitally important this year. In addition to all the descriptive changes from years past that you will find in the Fountain Arena thread, we are universally adopting the equidistant starting points normally showcased in the Grand Arena for the Finals. The order in which you are listed in the roster is the relative location you enter the arena in, with the first competitor entering in at the North of the arena and moving clockwise around the edge of the arena. Alternatively, you can view this as the competitor listed above you will be on your right and the competitor listed below you in the roster will enter in on your left. All contestants are assumed to enter roughly at the same time, regardless of posting order.

Feel free to ask me questions within this thread, via PM, or via IRC if you have any details you would like clarified.

Also, I will be adding in any questions I have been asked that may have potentially useful or relevant information for your descriptive use. On that note:

What are the dimensions of the arena?

All Paragon Phase arenas share a similar construction when it comes to the dimensions. From the geometric center it is 65 ft of terrain until reaching either a barrier wall or, such as with Spike or Sky, the lethal hazards ringing the arena. That's either 65 feet, or 21.6 yards, or just shy of twenty meters (at 19.812 specifically) as the radius for the arena. Entrance ways vary by arena in terms of design, but consist of eight equidistant points starting from cardinal North. Were one to connect the entrances with lines, you would inscribe a perfect octagon within the circle of the arena.

But there are only seven of us in the arena!
Yes, but arenas are designed with a maximum occupancy of eight contestants. I would rather use more arenas than pack more than that in an arena. The eighth location on the octagon reference is Vacant, with the first location being cardinal north and counting clockwise if looking at the arena from above. For this arena, that means that Lance is standing on the cardinal north entrance and Cole has no one directly opposite his entrance.

Oooh, fun group this year! When I competed last year, I ended up in the factory, however, I remember that the battle happening within the fountain arena was very exciting, so I hope this year will just as fun!

Question, Ronin.

Is the city of Bren big? How big? Is it a town send, or does it have spires and buildings that touch the sky?

Hey Draysin. Clarification questions.

1) I will assume the "Small one" is Yeni. Is this correct?
2) This attack. Is it with the cutting edge of the wings?

3) Not a question, but a declaration: You won't be striking at her back. By the list order up above, you'd be entering at the North West point, while Yeni's at the North East point, leaving quite a bit of ground for Ywris to cover (and also passing right past Lance), so expect Yeni to be fully prepped when the strike happens.

My sincere apologies for missing this last night, Draysin. I was buried under PMs both on the boards and over IRC during the entire launch last night. However, this calls for a small bit of flavor and fluff to answer!

Bren itself is normally a modest township during the course of the year, but it has grown significantly over the past decades with an entire district of buildings which are operated only during the busy season surrounding the Championships themselves. For instance, that quaint little inn on the outskirts called the Bearded Goat, whose owner is up before dawn and works long into the night? Normally a farmer, but with the kids getting a hang of more responsibility, he and his spouse have left them to tend to the chores of the farm in order to earn some extra coin and hedge against a bad harvest. Other businesses are run by relatives of local Brenfolk, mixing the pleasure of a trip to see kin with honest labor and the simple joys of participating in the slice of life surrounding the Championships.

Save for a few chapels in the small religious ward, no building in Bren is built beyond two stories in high. There is no need during the bulk of the year, and when tournament time arises no property owner has any real desire to block the sight of Bren's lifeblood: the arena complex itself. The city is in truth more a sprawl than a climb towards the heavens, and coin flows into Bren from both the complex and the influx of travelers. Even with a significant number of buildings and businesses being strictly seasonal, the town is marvelously well-kept as a point of pride. It is not unkind to say that Bren serves the Arena, and the Arena serves Bren. The sprawl is tailored and plotted for ease of access and travel to and from the complex itself, though in the chaos of the crowds is may never seem so easy during the busy season. Riches are to be made during tournament season, to be sure, but ultimately those who stay and live in the shadow of the arena complex are prideful folk of simple pleasures. Though the time may well come when the fervor and spectacle of the Championships fade once more, returning the competition to more of a spiritual pursuit, for now Bren enjoys its simple riches. Riches which fuel the expansion, and prevent the need for sprawling expanses of tents and palisades from all who come, making travels and daily life a touch easier for all.

To make it simple, I made an image, denoting starting locations based on the information posted and added to the first OOC post.

So, apologies, Draysin, you're not in the North West position, as I said earlier, but the West position. A straight line to Yeni takes you rather close to the center of the field - it's easy enough to not get hit by lightning, since a slight jaunt in the northerly direction or properly timed sprint will get you past or through with no issues, but it is something to pay attention to.

I'll be posting once more of us have entered.

@Ronin Thanks so much for not only understanding my double post, but also getting back to me on the apperance of Bren.

@Tormented Yes, she is attacking Yeni, and yes she is using her wings. However, because of her streamlined shape and wings, she will be able to almost glide over, relativly quickly. This will take her towards the laser, but the attack will come quicker than expected, even though Yeni can see it coming.

Since everyone here would benefit from the answer to this question, I thought this would be the right place to ask it.

I read that one of the combatants will not kill. Firstly, is it possible to win without killing and secondly what would constitute as a non-lethal win?

Think of it like winning a boxing match on points. The whole tournament is about writing combat well, and progression is determined by how much you impress the judge. Kills are actually extremely rare - from memory, they mostly only happen when someone idles out, or at the very end of the first round.

Notably, there are multiple cases where characters who died in this round were still chosen as finalists. It happened to me, even!

Reminder: contact with the shield coats contact points in water. A portion of Ywris' wings will be wet.

Reminder 2: Wave Hammer, when activated, strikes with the force of a wave behind it. Waves have a tendency to knock people down or shove them around - granted, bracing against them is difficult when in the ocean, due to buoyancy and surrounding forces, but that wave is also being concentrated into the hammer's focal point. It will take significant force to block, and is definitely powerful enough to knock someone unprepared down or away a few feet, depending on mass and overall resistance.

Bad blocking could break a bone. Of course, that's true of a normal hammer blow, but this is more so.


Edit: Aaaaand now I find that Draysin has posted again, thus invalidating the exact attack I was reacting to. I need sleep, so I'll leave my post up for now, given deleting is bad form without director say so.

I will be otherwise occupied until late evening EST Friday.

Sorry Tormented. However, Fire vs. Ice is a more interesting fight, and I cant make it all the way to you without getting struck at least once. A crash was unavoidable.

Now, Drakath, It's your move. (Your flames won't melt Ywri's ice, as it's a pure element. However, you can crack it with your shot rounds. The wings can slice through every sugstance, so watch out! Aswell as that, very soon my hedrons will become slow due to the ozone in the air. My changes will become haltered.) Invalid claims So, Good luck.

And Tormented, I wish you luck aswell.

Post up! Similar to Azan, I will not be able to post from this Monday, to this Friday. RL things have come up, relatively spontaneously, and I couldn't do anything to change them. In my post, I made sure that Ravinia wasn't going to be the center of attention, so that shouldn't be too much of an issue. If you do attack her however, expect her to shadow dash away, and then maybe lunge in with her bagh naka, staying close to the ground and hoping to shred at your vital joints. If she survives until Friday... yay!

Good news is I can post Monday morning/Sunday Night, as well as Friday night! I've already spoken with Ronin, so thats covered, I just wanted to warn you (my fellow EC lovers) as well!

@Salene:

I know I don't have the most clear writing style. I can understand why it causes problems for others. But for the attack at you was done using the rifle. Which wouldn't cause a twang sound but rather a sharp high pitched sound of metal on stone. Sorry if my writing caused any confusion.

Granting permission to TormentedDragon to delete his post and, frankly, take a mulligan on the actions because of the extremely unfortunate timing involved in the posting made by Draysin. By which I mean I will be doing the deleting at his request and based on the eloquent argument made by him, since that's not a thing y'all can actually do normally.

Also, Draysin? Making claims that cannot be backed up by your bio submission may end poorly. I have high hopes for you based on the bio stage, and I would be rather disappointed if you sabotaged yourself.

Thank you Ronin! My failing was in not double-checking that no new posts had been made before I sent mine in. There is, however, the general etiquette that a post made is a post committed to. If you are wanting to alter things, like switching targets, it's best to make sure that the people involved are aware of it.

@Deathlord I'm so sorry! It was pretty late when I wrote that post, and I didn't have much time to check your bio, so I guess I just assumed. I also don't know that much about guns, so that could have also been a factor. Your bio was actually quite clear though, and I hope you don't blame yourself for this mess-up

Now, would the bullet be going to fast for me to shadow dash away, or would I have been able to? If I cant, I suppose I'll just try to move to the side, letting it hit my arm instead of my heart.

Sorry for the confusion, it was totally my fault!

@Ronin Thank you aswell, I will try to be more careful. I'm a bit on edge as school is starting soon. Thus I have edited my claims.

@ Drakath My previous claims are not backed up by the bio, however your rounds can still damage me and my wings are very sharp, at the moment. Good luck, and I await your response.

Iwill not be able to post for the rest of today, but rest assured I have tommorrow morning and Sunday thru Tuesday before school starts. Then my time will be more limited.

Relax, folks! No matter how much TD prods you OOCly, post at your own time and pace. There's no need to absolutely fall over yourself to rush out a post unless the deadline itself is looming for fear of idle. Take the time to edit, double-check details where necessary, and put out posts you are happy with. I like a fast-paced arena as much as competitors do, but no need to invite needless errors!
