I don't know if you heard about the rumors, maybe it's not going to happen, but if Flash gives his place to HTML5, if flash die.... what will happen to EpicDuel?
There will be a offline installer for Flash player in the EpicDuel page? (and a browser that run it) ???

The past few years have seen a steady decline in browser games of all sizes. AE is not the only company facing this issue. Adobe’s decision to pull support from Flash forced Artix Entertainment to pivot towards mobile gaming for future products. Console games, with high barriers of entry, would not be a viable alternative. This transition has been very difficult as training all artists and programmers in a completely new development environment is time consuming. However, such training is essential for the sustainability of the company. Our games will only get better and bolder with time.

Most of the EpicDuel player base is aware we are actively in development for BioBeasts, a mobile project expected to release on Android and on iOS. Why is BioBeasts so important for the survival of EpicDuel? Since the EpicDuel team is still very new to Unity, ( Unity a company wide decision to use as our next gaming engine like Flash ) we decided to develop a small to medium scope mobile project to learn the basics of the platform. So far, we like what we see. Unity is far more powerful than Flash ever was and we’re learning more every day.

A project like transferring EpicDuel to Unity would be a monumental task. After all EpicDuel has about 7 years of content. By focusing on a smaller project, we can avoid scope-creep and work through the entire process from conceptualization to a public launch quickly, building our team’s confidence toward larger projects. Larger projects like the survival of the EpicDuel and other AE games.

What will happen to EpicDuel? Well that will decide on you guys. There have been both positive and negative reception to our move to mobile and Unity game engine. I can sympathize with all of the comments. Many have over criticized us as abandoning EpicDuel when in our hearts we are taking the necessary steps to insure EpicDuel's survival. There are many many more features and things to "fix" "update" and "create" in the EpicDuel universe that we just cannot part with it in its current state. What will happen to EpicDuel will rely on ED's community support going forward in this transition.

The changes made by technology and Flash have really put us all in this awkward situation we are in right now. One thing's for sure we wont give up on EpicDuel or our players. Will learn and evolve into the next era for gaming!

In the mean time EpicDuel will continue to see updates and releases, and we have content planned well in advance. Titan, Nightwraith, Charfade, and Rabblefroth will continue to be a part of EpicDuel’s development for the foreseeable future.

Other common questions have been brought up and answered on our BioBeast's FAQ page, if you haven't read it yet I really recommend to check it out. It has a lot of EpicDuel concerns answered in there as well: http://biobeasts.artix.com/faq/

TL;DR of what was said above:

Browser games are in decline and are either being moved to desktop downloadables like ones you find on Steam, console games, or mobile games. The ED team has decided to go down the mobile route because it is the best looking one at the moment.

They're using a new engine for mobile and bio beasts is their first project for it. ED itself probably won't be taken down for a while but in general browser games are in decline and will eventually fade out over the next sum of years.

_____________________

Personally I would like to see ED try and be converted into having a desktop client or get greenlit for steam or something since once it reaches this stage a lot of limitations that were previously blocking the staff would be removed.

Personally i reckon that going for a mobile game is an amazing idea seeing as my generation is pretty much always on their phones either playing games or texting others. If BioBeasts gets popular enough then i can almost guarantee that there will be millions of people playing it.

Also seeing Charfade post on this thread has just proved all of the people who think that the Dev's don't care for the game anymore and don't check on the forums, wrong. Loving it.

@exploding penguin the way any current AE browser game would end up on steam is most likely through Adobe air. This would still lead to the game being limited by flash.

The only way to remove the flash limitations is to remove it from the flash engine and that's seven years worth of code to port to another engine. At that point it would most likely be time better spent making a new game in unity with everything the Dev team has learned from epicduel

Ya it is a bitter truth that flash has come to its limitations as compared to what unity has to offer, most of nowadays popular games ranged from simple touch and move minigames like Crossy Roads to other meduim and hardcore games like GTA can be conceptualized on Unity itself, the new gen of games all depends on how it is represented, there are many successful MMORPGs made from unity, other Web Player games made from unity hitting the gaming industry, so ya turning epicduel into a web player game through unity will be a load of work, I did say tremendous amount actually.
But be assured we all are, as a community with you EpicDuel , I loved you before, we do now and we will be doing . Biobeast will not only act as a new game by the ed team but as a savor of Epicduel in terms of funding as well as other things, I know how much it is a pain to create new characters/mobs, i.e different beasts in this case, and not just create em but using Blender, and other softwares to make them virtually so they can be used in the game itself etc.
So winding up the words above, altogether, good luck and wish you all the best

@OWA ed team never thought about that us the players don't want epicduel to be shutdown and replaced by a wave survival game like biobeast ? wave survival games (a player will reach some places where he get bored and quit) survival wave based game existed many many years ago if u player world of warcraft III frozen thorn or reign of chaos u would know the tower defenses games and how they get boring aver time .

we just want epicduel not biobeast ... u never considered asking for votes from ed communities ?

@Shadow.bane did you read Charfade's post? Flash is going the way of the dodo so the only logical plan to save EpicDuel in any form is to move to a new engine.

The dev's have to learn a new engine before they can save EpicDuel from the fall of Flash and Unity is one such engine. BioBeasts is being created on the Unity engine so that the dev team can learn Unity. Once they have enough experience with Unity they can make a large scale project to continue the life of EpicDuel. Ideally this would all be done before support for Flash is pulled from all but the most archaic browsers

i know that it take a year of coding and they need to understand unity and all those things , but at some point trust me e will be forgotten , cause coding will take a very very long time and a lot a lot of money to complete which will be a problem for lack of devs and staff and little amount of people are buying varium (said varuim cause only speaking about ed idk about the other games) so that will be an issue !

Do you have any idea about mobile games at all? Kingdom rush has had success as a tower defense game and even developed a sequel. Think before you speak bruh.

@king bling, I actually thought that only the training is the takeaway of the devs with biobeast. I never really considered the extra funds they'll get. Guess that makes it better. I just hope they finish it soon.

@Shadow.bane The Dev's aren't looking to make Flappy bird money. EpicDuel will be the main bread winner for the team until the next large scale project but like everyone is saying the Dev's have to learn this skill over-wise EpicDuel will die and because they are lacking knowledge with Unity they will be mostly useless to Artix Entertainment out side doing maintenance on legacy games

There are actually a few more take aways we gain from BioBeasts other than just learning or the financials it would bring to help

such as but not limited to,

►New music and sound effects. New game needs iconic sounds to stay competitive mobile market. Which ideally there isn't a reason why we wouldn't recycle the sounds into EpicDuel.

►Updated Licensed software. Alot in this department, we were lucky with flash in that we just needed adobe licences. With new tech comes experimenting with best development practices. We are choosing software and plugins we know we need for future projects.

►New eyes on the EpicDuel franchise. There is a whole new generation of gamers who have never owned a PC, and are solely on mobile devices. Since BioBeasts takes place on Delta V and in the EpicDuel universe, this keeps us relevant in newer generations and with other types of gamers.

Making a game like ED(online pvp) would definitely be a hit on Mobile platform. Hoping to see it soon.

I think we are focusing a bit too much on what platform BB is going to be on and not what platforms the Unity Engine can be on. Unity works on Mobile, PC, and Console so in theory the Dev's could do a multi-platform game with a Mobile port. While that is very unlikely because of the size of the team it just goes to show what doors are now open with Unity that you wouldn't have ever seen with Flash

I love how Charfade puts things in lighter perspective. Maybe let's trust the devs more. I hope this turns out to be worth all the wait and effort.

Mozilla Firefox has ended up its cooperation with Adobe Flash Player due to the huge amount of bugs/access points for hackers. Well it is indeed the end of flash player. HTML5 is taking over right now, and the great thing is, you can prefectly run web sites/games/etc... that are based on adobe flash player.

Ohh.. So that's why Mozilla keeps on warning me about flash player. It's been an honor playing with you. Cue titanic violinists' last performance while the ship's sinking.

As far as i heard, they got a flash alternative like really long time ago. If you don't have flash installed on your system(Windows) and you can install chrome and still play ED. But you cannot do this on Mozilla.
