Icy Overkill

Effect: Ignoring 35% of the target’s defenses and makes the gun unusable until the end of the battle
EP cost: 120

200 def/res: 70 dmg
250 def/res: 88 dmg
300 def/res: 105 dmg
350 def/res: 123 dmg
400 def/res: 140 dmg

++ Very good versus medium and high defenses
+ Still good damage versus low defenses but not energy efficient
- Less effective with active armor debuffs and Smoke Screen/Malfunction
- Less effective versus low def/res
- Does build less rage because of the ignored defenses
-- Only half as effective with Rage
--- Weapon unusable after core got used

Improbability Gate

Effect: Additional damage equal to 5% of opponents maximum health
EP cost: 90

750 HP = 37 dmg
1000 HP = 50 dmg
1500 HP = 75 dmg
2000 HP = 100 dmg

+ Good versus very high HP
+ Usefull in about every situation including Rage and debuffed opponent
- Energy unefficient
-- Little effect versus low and medium HP

Meteor Shower / Plasma Meteor

Effect: 110% unblockable strike damage
EP cost: 90

Primary damage:
500 -> 50 dmg
550 -> 55 dmg
600 -> 60 dmg
650 -> 65 dmg

+ Unblockable
+ Usefull in about every situation including Rage and debuffed opponent
- Little damage bonus
- Basically only usefull for strenght builds as there are better cores

I made this thread because I made the experience that Icy Overkill does seem to be
underpowered when comparing it to the other damage cores. Not because of its damage but
because of its limited usability and gun self-destruction. The self-destruction does limit it to
the last 3 rounds of a battle in most situations. It should cost only 90 instead of 120 EP.

Improbability Gate is energy unefficient (dmg vs EP) in about every situation so its EP
cost should be reduced from 90 to 70.

Meteor Shower / Plasma Meteor is also a bit energy unefficient and should be buffed
from 110% to 111%. The other similar damage cores like Bacon Breath x25, Bacon Rain x25,
Titan Chomp x25 (114%), Thorn Assault (115%), Jack-O-Fire/Jack-O-Fire x25 (115%) do
have the same EP cost and should be nerfed by increased EP cost:
90 EP for 111%, 105 EP for 114%, 110 EP for 115%.

You can't compare limited cores or rare (locked) cores to permanent cores that are available for all weapons.

So not supported.

While I agree with you slightly Nowras I think for the sake of proper balance to cores we need to throw the concept of rarity out the window and just look at them as power vs cost. If two cores function identically but one is stronger it should cost more energy

Well but I actually paid tons of credits to get these weapons that have these cores. Not to mention that these cores are available for mutating weapons only, not swords which make sense.

But about titan's cores; they are limited, so if you want the stronger core you have to pay more for it.
If you don't have varium or credits, then stick to permanent cores. It's as simple as that.

Most of that increased cost can be explained by the rarity tag. If you get the Dragon Battle gear and the plasma meteor core it costs you 25K credits base whereas the harvest reaper that comes bundled with the Jack-o-fire core costs 27.5k base. That is a price point difference of only 2.5k

Now if I do my two weapons favorite coreless weapons in the game, the non-rare Spirit Pike(8K) and the Rare Azrael(10k), you are looking at a price point difference of 2K.

If you want to argue that limited cores should be left alone as they are credit sinks with no possible way to recoup the cost then that is fine but the rare permanent cores should be brought in line as you are only paying extra for rarity points

My biggest qualm with ED right now is actually that while being a strategy PvP game where players should try and best each other through raw skill, it's been immersed in this horrid environment where people get way too many PvP rewards for investing ludicrous amounts of time into the game. It's like a mobile game before mobile games were a thing and now that the industry is changing it's just not right. And so, I would say that people should always compare any core equally to each other, as long as they are for the same piece of equipment (Ex: gun cores to gun cores, but not a gun core to a primary core, etc...). In certain cases though it is fair to compare core of different weapons if their effect is similar. But rarity shouldn't have anything to do with it, which is why I'm not a huge fan of the weapon mastery cores compared to azrael's mark.

Given that in a regular PvP environment most of these damage cores are going to be used as finishers or are there just to force the opponent to heal a turn early because they would otherwise die, I think Icy Overkill is fine simply because the amount of bonus damage it does is so high, and it's fairly consistent with the amount of defenses people tend to stack up these days. Not getting that much effect from using rage with it is probably the only major downside to it in my honest opinion. So, not supported.

Definitely supported for improbability gate. Right now this core isn't that good because it just barely does any damage at all and gets most of its actual use against bosses.

I wouldn't support the damage buff from 110 to 111% but I do support the increase in EP cost on the other cores (although maybe not that high of an EP cost increase). The main reason is that cores with rarity that are different should have different effects and not just be clones with alternate VFX. Thus, keeping the slightly higher damage but also increasing the EP cost to reflect that would be great. For the regular meteor shower cores, I already find it really useful on focus builds and strength builds because in general focus builds will not be getting really high hits unless they either burn lots of energy for it or use their robot. If you need some guaranteed damage that works pretty well with rage then using rage meteor is a great option, especially since the EP cost is very manageable. I don't think it needs a damage buff at all and is fine in its current state.
