AQ3D KickStarter Starts Friday!

AQ3D KICKSTARTER Goes Live FRIDAY!
AQ3D needs your help. The Kickstarter campaign starts THIS FRIDAY, November 20th, at 10:00am EST (that's 15:00 GMT) and will run until the end of the year, closing on Dec 31st.

AQ3D has come so far since its first days and a lot of you already love it. You see what we do. You see what AQ3D COULD be once it's released for everyone to play.

We took this picture an hour ago. You see an iPhone 5, iPhone 6S, Android Galaxy S5, iPad 2 and a PC and we are ALL playing together in the same server.

We could release it right now. It's playable on iOS, Android and PC (on the current web testing environment). But it's not ready. There isn't enough in the game for people to be interested in it and we only get one shot to do this right. We don't want to do a big thing badly. So far, AQ3D has been funded by AQW and our other games, but now AQW needs every cent of its funding to complete the engine re-write and keep providing you with weekly releases.

We had a tight budget to begin with and we hoped that we would have AQ3D in a releasable form by now, but after seeing what the game is capable of we KNOW we can need to push it further, make it faster, add more content and make it more fun... but we need your help to do that.

We are turning to you via our Kickstarter campaign. We are calling on every Guardian, every Dragonlord, every Star Captain, every AQW Legend, every Epic Duelist... every single hero from our vast universe of games... and we are asking you to become backers and support the development of the game so we can get it release ready and do this amazing game the justice that it deserves.

If you need to know how a Kickstarter works, check out THIS POST.

You will also see a short list of only a FEW of the awesome backer rewards that we have planned for those who are able to help support AQ3D's development.

We're going to be talking about this a LOT until the end of the year and you'll probably get sick of seeing it, but this might be the most important thing that we've ever done and we can't do it without you.

Friday will be here before you know it. Here we go...

This is the first game where I've seen the staff being so honest to it's players that they are in dire need of money. I may find that statement ridiculous but I'm still gonna donate though.

The only problem is with the 'Kick Starter' donate / paying method which is by use of CC, where most players buy orders via OTC.

From 'Kick Starter' FAQS : You can use a debit or credit card associated with Visa, Discover, MasterCard, or American Express. <- However do you expect players to own any of this? Well, I got a debit card which I want to use but the type I am using is not one of the 4 available (V,Mc, D or Ae).

So I am hoping the staff do something about that then I and lots of players will / can definitely donate to the new project. :))

On a side note, the news isn't clear regarding about the rewards. Do we get all of the rewards just by donating any cents? Or the more you donate, the more rewards you get? (Which for example. the Alpha Class is obtainable by donating 5$, then you get an additional xxx stuff if you donated 10$ and so forth.)

tbh the prizes from this kickstarter makes it look less like a kickstarter and more like a membership package. its more like a founder package for us than a desperate act for them. it all seems very clean

What I didn't like is that as early as now, they've set up the amount to as high as $100. It's like they're expecting a few people to pay a lot than a lot of people to pay little. Of course any donation is welcomed. But it does reflect how ae is going to set micro currency here. Never mind. I just found out how kickstarter really reaches up to $200 or even more for most games. I wish there are other methods of payment for aq3d foundership. (What happened to the portal website? I thought that was supposed to unify every payment?)

@Insanely: I'm assuming it's tiered rewards system. I don't know if cysero is kidding but he said that the wolf morph will cost "a little more than" $100.

Kickstarter's rewards are for those who want to contribute to the game's potential in a very generous way. By no means should you think to yourself, "oh man, I NEED that wolf morph", therefore you should give AE $100 for AQ3D.

Kickstarter is a fundraiser and an investment. This is not a pre-order. I hope AE will make their language clear on what exactly will be Kickstarter exclusive and what won't be, but please don't think of them as what you need to be shooting for. This is a donation pool, nothing more. You'll just get rewards based on how much you're able to contribute, so do what you can.

For those players under 18 or without a credit card, they are more than welcome to use a family member's credit card (with permission!) or have their family member Kickstart the game and then have the rewards applied to their AQ3D account.

I've donated to a lot of successful projects on Kickstarter, as well as a couple of failures. I hope players will not get blinded by everything and assume this is a pre-order or a guarantee; this is an investment and donation pool.

I do want to support the game, but heck I'm in no position to donate any large amounts of money, like maybe up to $5 if I skip lunch for a day (or maybe more if I find a better job). I, like many others am already having enough trouble paying back college loans, and helping my mom pay bills lol. But to the people that can donate over $100 or even $1000, that's awesome! And to those who can barely spare a dime, they'll understand. Therefore, I know for a fact that the team will probably need over thousands of dollars to get this running, but I suggest even small $1 perks to donators will be good, just to be fair to everyone's finacial state, and a badge no matter the amount you donated.

@overdead It was said in the post. The game is not finished yet, they can't let players spend Artix Points on something that is not guaranteed.

If I can donate to them with Paypal, I will gladly do so. If I can up my pledge later on for that sweet Wolf Morph using paypal, I will do that too. If I can't do either or at least the first one, odds are I can't do it.

If you get a Shadow Wolf form, I will gladly donate to obtain one so I can go into Doomwood and troll some noobs around. Other than that, I'll donate to get both classes. I'll need to wait until Christmas though. Joblessness is stupid...

@SlyCooperFan1: thank you captain obvious. I never would have thought that kickstarter was a donation system for starting projects. Especially with all the description in their website. /sarcasm

Sigh. Donation or not, the exclusive items are what we're paying for.

Some clarification on how Kickstarter works: You can pledge how much money you like. It can be $1 or $100 or $1000. That's entirely up to you. As an incentive to pledge more, people who want to get their projects funded by Kickstarter make "Reward Tiers". Pledge $5 and you get X, pledge $10 and you get X+Y, pledge $50 and you get X+Y+Z, etc. Kickstarter accepts payment made through:
+Credit Card - Visa/MasterCard/American Express
+Debit Card - Visa/MasterCard/American Express, subject to the account having enough funds to cover the pledge at the time of the pledge, and that the card can be used to make overseas/international payments in Australian Dollars if you are not in Australia.
+Pre-Paid Credit Cards - Visa/MasterCard/American Express, subject to there being the amount of the pledge + $1 AUD on the card at the time of the pledge.

P.S. Those who want to pay via Paypal - Paypal do have a credit card that you can apply for and link to your account.

David: 1: I like to get the payment out the way rather then wait till Dec 31st in case I have the money now but not then, and 2: I personally wish to avoid credit cards to avoid impulsive spending. Thus the option to Kickstart by Paypal looks good to me.

I cant emphasize enough how much I love the world of Lore and I just want to point that out before.

What bothers me though with the kickstarter are not the backer packages. It is the legitimacy in them that I question. Something that is questioning my trust towards AE is that sometimes once they promise something they always find a reason to reverse prior statements. For example, Alpha Pirate was supposed to only be an armor prior to kickstarter. Now it is becoming a class and an armor.

Why did it change? There were and are a lot of complications on the amount of classes is AQW(Balancing, too many, same mechanics and so on). One thing that was and is preferably good with the live classes in AQW is that the class art style is often very accurate to the fantasy of the class. My interpretation is that we will be seeing the same thing happening to AQ3D as with AQW now with this armor to class package. I checked with Cysero about the AP class wondering if it would have its unique skill set. It turns out it might share similar abilities as future classes but not the same(Link at the end). I just dont want to see AQ3D have a lot of classes that arent distinct enough from one another.

As plenty of people have said is that with the kickstarter we arent customers, we are investors. But another thing that bothers me is that we get all kinds of different answers about the game but not the details. Mainly what I mean by that is that we havent been told crucial things such as, future functions(only some basic which AQW already posses), what the purpose of the game is(is it going to be for hardcore players who want to challenge epic monsters or is it a casual hangout mobile game?). I think it is important to highlight the intention of the game even more now because it is an Omni game. I do not know which kind of audience AQ3D is targeting and therefore it is sadly enough, hard to relate to the game at this state if we do not get more details. As a consequence of this, I think it will be more difficult for backers to invest in the game.

With the kickstarter coming up I hope that AE make time in some way to answer questions that we the investors wants to know. I want to see AQ3D be successful and I wouldnt be making this post if I werent passionate about the game.

But the questions about the kickstarter that I want to ask is:
Is kickstarter exclusive content going to be exclusive forever?
Will we have new classes for every new area that gets released?(AQW style)
What is the targeted audience with AQ3D?

It's sad how true this is.

Most of AE community only pays for items and not to actually support devs.
It's nice they're being honest. The backer deal is what bothers me though.

I just need to say something about this part though:

quote:

right now, there's not much in the game for people to be interested in it.

I don't want to come off as rude, but I feel had they focused on the actual gameplay and trying to make an old mmorpg trope into something refreshing the game would not be as half bad.

To me the focus seems to be on graphics.

Yes, I also think they have a bad habit in forgetting important promised content.
Still waiting for Cysero to reply to me on twitter about the 4 skill combat and why it should change.

Agreed.

Right now all we know is: hey look cool update.
But we need things like: hey look i'm going to add this in because... how it... what it...

They're also going with the classic post only updates design notes.
We need updates on the development itself so we can give feedback.

They are giving us only finished updates with our feedback and ideas being implemented AFTER.

BTW it seems like a casual hangout. It's basically medieval Wildstar without the fancy combat/gameplay/quest mechanics.

Q1: I hope not. I SERIOUSLY hate that kind of style. I want them to THINK of the classes, actually focus on them without rushing it adding flashy skills last second and releasing it a week after update. It just makes variety and originality harder with 4 skill mechanic. it's going to get repetitive fast.

Worst case scenario AQW 2.0 with power creeps: NEW CLASS NAO, OLD CLASS ONLY KILL MONSTAR IN 0.5 NANO SECOND!

Q2: Pretty certain children to young teens.

I usually don't like the persuasive crap that people get by supporting a game in it's early phase, but I have to say the rewards for AQ3D are pretty cool. I've been playing AE games since 2007 so you guys definitely get my support with this. Who knows? Maybe the game will eventually be uploaded onto major consoles.
