Second quest of this little saga! Quest: The Fire Tower Location: ??? (Theoretically, Moonridge, in Jerrard’s study) Level/Quest/Item Required: Completion of “Vampire Secrets” Objective: South-east of the Sandsea lies the Guardian Tower of Fire... Objective Completed: You have found out the whole truth behind how Akriloth gained the Fire Orb. Scaled Yes/No: Yes Monsters: (4) Tog (5) Fire Elemental NPCs: Jerrard Adventurer Guardian Ghost Dialogue: Jerrard: Welcome back, <Character>! I still can’t thank you enough for the texts you brought me. <Character>: It was nothing, really. By the way, did you find any interesting information in them? Jerrard: Well, it seems Lord Frydae IX liked chickencow eggs so much he tried to start a chickencow farm in Doomwood to always have a fresh supply! Jerrard: As expected by everyone but Lord Frydae, it failed miserably. <Character>: … (blinks) <Character>: Really? Jerrard: Yup! Jerrard: Oh, come on, don’t make that face. There is still a lot more in these books, but many of them are written in an ancient language which is taking me time to translate. However, I did not mention Lord Frydae just for laughs. <Character>: Hm? What do you mean? Jerrard: Before I start, I must ask if you know of the Elemental Wars that took place over a millennium ago in the - <Character>: The Deadlands. Yes, I do know about that. Jerrard: Ah, but what many don’t know is that as a result of these wars, a new order was created: The - <Character>: The Guardian Order, tasked with protecting the Orbs entrusted to them by the Elemental Orbs. <Character>: The first Dragon Amulets were also created that day, to strengthen the bond between humans and dragons. Jerrard: How… how do you know that much? This information is supposed to be secret. <Character>: Lord Valorus told me. Jerrard: Valorus? But that line is extinct... <Character>: Well, it was Alexander Valorus’ ghost, to be precise. Jerrard: (surprised) Alexander Valorus?! The first Guardian of the Earth Tower, who went missing twenty years after the Order was created? That Lord Alexander Valorus?! <Character>: Oh, he didn't go missing. He accidentally sealed himself in the Orb Chamber of his Tower. Jerrard: … (blinks) Jerrard: Really? <Character>: Yup. (grins) Jerrard: Well, you learn something new every day. Jerrard: Anyway, the Orbs were entrusted to the representants of eight great noble families: the Valorus, the Duats, the Frydaes and more… They were the captains of the Towers, and exchanged letters between each other, both official and informal. Using the records you brought me, and some of my own research, I have managed to find out more about each tower. Jerrard: However, there is something that is still missing… One last Guardian Tower that has been unaccounted for for years. Jerrard: Tell me, <Character>... close-up on Jerrard Jerrard: Have you ever been to the Guardian Tower of Fire? Scene fades to black. You are now outside the Guardian Tower of Fire, lying in ruins in the middle of a scorched wasteland. Burnt trees and charred bones are scattered around the plains. You can now move and freely enter and explore the tower, which has the same layout of the other Guardian Towers. The tower is empty, except for a few togs and Fire Elementals roaming its halls. There are pieces of Guardian Armors scattered around the tower, as well as bones and skulls. When you reach the upper level of the tower, a cutscene starts: you can see that the roof and wall have been torn down, and there are huge claw marks all over the room. The Hero looks around himself. <Character>: Well, the tower has clearly been attacked, but… by whom? Two ethereal figures appear in front of the Hero. One is a Guardian in full armor, the other is a DragonWarrior, wearing deep blue armor with white trims. Adventurer: It was my fault… Adventurer: Akriloth, the Great Fire Dragon, tricked me. In life I was an adventurer, much like you, and always sought new quests and experiences. Adventurer: One day I happened upon Akriloth. I was afraid he’d kill me, but to my own surprise, he wanted to strike a deal with me. He told me of the Fire Orb, which he claimed was rightfully his, but had been stolen by the Guardians. Adventurer: He promised me the greatest Fire weapon this world had ever seen if I helped him raid the Guardian Tower. Adventurer: I believed him. I led a small army of mercenaries and Fire beings against the Guardians, and stole the Orb from them. The greatest error of my life... Adventurer: Once Akriloth had the Fire Orb, he was unstoppable. He destroyed the Guardian Tower, and then kept his promise: the greatest Fire weapon ever… It was him. I was burnt to cinders in this very room after realizing that I had been tricked into committing an atrocious crime. Adventurer: Now I wander those halls, cursed to always be reminded of my mistake by seeing the souls of those whom I killed with my ambition. <Character>: So that’s what happened… <Character>: Akriloth is gone, as is the Fire Orb. Your mistake has been corrected, and the Guardians avenged. Adventurer: Is… is that true? <Character>: Yes; I have slain Akriloth myself. You can rest in peace now. Adventurer: Thank you so much, <Class>... The Adventurer’s ghost fades away. Guardian Ghost: If you really slew Akriloth, you are a true hero. You have my thanks as well, and those of all my comrades. More ghost Guardians appear all around the Hero, and then go away in a flash of light. Quest Complete! Headlines from mousing over things throughout the quest: quote:
"Examining the Armory, you notice the Guardian armors are hot to the touch, even if they haven’t been worn in years.” “The passage to the Orb Room has caved in.” “The Guardian Log has been burnt.” “Broken armors and charred bones clutter the floor…”
