The contest is over and Tibbles is resting his little feet before delivering all the Veywild prizes later this week! A huge THANK YOU from the team to everyone that participated!! Kam and Imr have been brainstorming on the Veywild functionality and we'd love to get input from the winners on what they'd like to see from their prizes, especially the armor.

quote:

Is the School Uniform a separate armour from previous years or are those just being update to be CC

All the prizes are the same as previous years. The CC functionality with the armor is broken, it should be following your armor color now. We'll hopefully have that fixed later this week, unfortunately not in time for today's winners. I had planned on at least making some elemental variants for this year but ran out of time. So this is very likely the last year for these exact prizes.

quote:

Can you win multiples of the same item? Or should I put what I currently have in my vault?

If you donated with more than one character you can win multiples of the same prize.

@Hollow
I think Macho Man means the back to school rewards since he refers to putting items into his vault. I would assume one cannot win multiples of the same item because we normally cannot have multiples of the same item in our inventory.

Congrats to all the winners of the Donation Contest. You guys are amazing.

@Hollow

EDIT: See my later comment for updated armor suggestion approved by me and 8 other players in top 15

Hi Hollow, I'm Gwen, I came in 7th in the donation contest. My suggestion for Veywild is to make it an FO earth armor like thunderbird or griffinrider, where it has a mount/dismount skill and an sp skill. Mounted is just normal armor, dismounted is ele locked to earth, and the SP skill should be spell based, follow weapon type (melee, ranged, magic) and inflict petrify. The elelock toggle makes it good for FO chars without disadvantaging non-top 15 players because they have access to Terra Bloodzerker, and the petrify skill makes it useful for FD builds as well, and gives it the extra "kick" that would make it worth the minimum 700k token buy in price.

Here are my ideas for the others, although the only one I really want is the armor. Basically all of the summer donation armors have been disappointing (see: Desert Raider, Steam Raider, Beachmancer, Thunderbird's defloss skill), so it would be nice if this one could be usuable.

Shield: Earth, increase chance to inflict petrify by 20%, like Umazen Aspis

Weapons: Flavor effect where weapon does more damage in exchange for hp cost/player takes more damage and MC is weapon does more damage if enemy is inflicted with petrify/freeze/the blood ruby rain one/any of the 200% element effects. I would prefer the flavor to make the player take more damage because terra bloodzerker blade already does hp cost

Misc/Pet: Honestly not sure for misc. I would like an Earth booster pet like Rammsay or Chilly, but that seems a bit bland for this contest, although the minimum 40k donation for pet makes it about right price wise for a booster pet. Alternatively, we could make the pet follow the mogdin model and pay 100% damage for an effect like petrify - that would distinguish it from fu dog too. EDIT: Other ideas for pet are toggle between entangle/+5% damage or toggle between lepre-chan like booster and +5% damage, since lepre-chan doesn't have an MC.

Also, we should be able to click to remove the helm for the armor; a lot of the top 15 have custom faces and would probably want to see their face on their char page if we end up using this armor.

@Hollow

Hey, I'm Araktha Malkor #77 on the list.

For the Shield I wouldn't mind Gwen's petrify potence idea.

For the Mage Weapon, I'd like it to be earth spell boosting on par with Cutlasses if at all possible.

For the Misc I honestly don't mind. A lvl 150 variant of shadowfeeder pendant maybe?

All the best.

I definitely want the weapon and misc to have statuses that will have use each turn they are successful. Toxic gladius, shattered horizon, alchemical unity come to mind.

A misc that has an osiris-like damage halving and/or monster autohit or +20 or more BtH for an effect. +Guest Damage or +Player Damage.

A weapon that sacrifices some damage in return for healing 15%/1.4% HP damage taken and on special if there is one does mrm+defloss because it fits the earthy dark them. Perhaps a toggle if no special.

A shield that on block gives +MRM. Flavor effect: Decreases Player Accuracy but gives MRM.

Pet that makes the monster more accurate on hit but makes them take more damage, kinda like a berserk but different or toggle to deal full damage and +BtH.

This set has some similarities in aesthetics to the supernatural creature known as the Wendigo in Native American myths and folklore. As a preface in no way am I attempting to trivialize the Native American myths and their history, I am merely borrowing some aspect of their legends for inspiration. Secondly I really haven't thought about balance and game mechanic, this is more of me going over my thought on how the Wendigo relates to the Veywild and how these two can combine in some way that does not blatantly disrespect their culture. Thirdly while I do not have the armor I feel like it is a good starting point to go in and then later on I'll think of some more interesting design for the other equipment.

A basic google search for the Wendigo in Google image shows up with similar results: a giant, emancipated creature with the distinct deer skull as a face. Skimming through notes describing the Wendigo, one can find common motif among the different tribes, with one scholar from the Ojibwe tribe presenting a vivid portrayal:

"The Wendigo was gaunt to the point of emaciation, its desiccated skin pulled tightly over its bones. With its bones pushing out against its skin, its complexion the ash-gray of death, and its eyes pushed back deep into their sockets, the Wendigo looked like a gaunt skeleton recently disinterred from the grave. What lips it had were tattered and bloody ... Unclean and suffering from suppuration of the flesh, the Wendigo gave off a strange and eerie odor of decay and decomposition, of death and corruption."

The Innui tribe gives further explanation of the corruption of the Wendigo: Whenever a wendigo ate another person, it would grow in proportion to the meal it had just eaten, so it could never be full. Therefore, wendigos are portrayed as simultaneously gluttonous and extremely thin due to starvation.

Therefore, looking at these tales and folklores, I personally find three common motif that Wendigos share among different tales: corruption of mind and body, immense strength, and an insatiable desire to consume everything. As such, I think the Veywild set should reflect these three themes in a unique way.

Corruption of mind and body: We have a status effect called War-Torn Mind, shown in burning Solstice. *1.2 in outgoing damage. This in turn can also cover the immense strength theme if the armor is FO as well. So it'll be cool if this is one of a passive the armor has

Insatiable desire to consume everything: Here I'll go ahead and introduce a new status effect, called Gluttony. In essence as a penalty for having such immense strength, not only are you corrupted, but you must pay a certain amount of resource in SP every turn as you are getting hungrier and weaker. If possible, your SP cost increase with every turn. Failure to do so will result in you having the Granny monster effect where your level, and in turn your HP,MP and SP are reduced(this will be permanent in each battle). Alternatively, you will have to pay a hefty HP cost.

I haven't given much thought about the other equipment but feel free to offer suggestion and constructive criticism for my idea haha. In the end, Veywild just remind me of the Wendigo and I just wanted to make it revolve around that idea.

Pet: While wendigos are indeed supernatural beings of malicious force, their origins in certain mythos are mundane. The First Nation Algonquian tribe depicts malicious spirits possessing human beings, ultimately turning them into a wendigo. Thus they are a fusion of spirit and flesh, mind and matter.

As we give in to the madness and corruption of the Wendigo armor and lose our own spirit, we affect not only affect those around us by taking their life, but can also possess, alter and mold them into our chaos, thereby creating more Wendigos. The end result of this influence, as described by the Athabaskan people, is called a Wechugu. In their mythos (the Dane-zaa), wechuge are people "overwhelmed by the power of the ancient giant spirit animals", related to becoming too strong. Similar to the Wendigo, an outside force taking control of a human or a human willingly breaking a taboo could result in the creation of a monster. As such, the pet is eventuality of being in contact with a wendigo for too long- a Wechugu, having stayed too long in the shadow of greed, power and destruction, serving as as a motif to caution against human greed.

The pet, therefore, is an eventuality of our allies being too close to the Veywild: as they stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back. Being this close to the Veywild armor distorts and warps our pet's mind, matter and body, leaving them as a mere hollow shell of what they once were. Thus it fits, as we the Veywild/Wendigo creates more subjects for our own greed and desire. Thus our pet, the Wechugu, has no choice but to follow our commands as they are possessed eternally.

While it would be easy to further elaborate on the Gluttony status and give it to the Wechugu/Pet as well, I feel like there are other aspects in Native American lore depicting the Wechugu that could be used for the pet. Legends vary between the different tribes, but after reading through them, I again found some themes that are interesting and worth mentioning: the Beaver Nation describes them as being made of ice; they are associated with Winter, the Night and the North; the tribes with these Wechugu legends are geographically located in Northern region of the Americas where it is cold and dark. Finally(and most importantly), to completely destroy the creature one must throw it into a fire and keep it burning overnight until the Wechugu has melted.

Thus the theme of Night and Cold seems to be the most prevalent within the legends. Therefore I think the pet should either inflict the Cold or Asleep (I don't think it should get the Everslumber treatment because Everslumber heals you, which is counterintuitive for a beast that is constantly in hunger). The Cold makes sense thematically. As the pet is emotionally manipulated to our bidding, they in turn gain our power, allowing them in turn to sow chaos in the world. They are Cold, and in turn they inflict the Cold to others, making them unable to defend themselves, hence the -BtH and -Blocking.

Asleep could also be a good alternative for the pet to inflict . although the lore will be a bit more of a stretch: one often associate the Night with sleep, and Winter have long nights, which leads to more time spent sleeping rather than going outside to do activities. But most importantly, if one is asleep overnight while burning the Wechugu, this would give it ample time to escape and cause more destruction once the fire has died out. A sleep-centric theme could be a better alternative mechanically than the Cold as we already seen that implemented. I'll think of some more ideas for the weapon, shield and misc later on, but I think in general the pet should be either sleep inflicting or something to do with the Cold.

I dropped 550k and ended up being #18. Let the pet have undeadifier skill also can one of the misc's effect be resistance similar to elahi misc?

Alternatively pet could have elahi like effect for fire similar to wind beaver that was LTS many years back.

A pet with driedfiend backslash effect would be nice.

I came in 12th :)

Still debating with some top 15 Discord players atm so stay tuned. But one thing we all agree on is that no matter what effects happen, we would like to be able to remove the helm from the Veywild Armor.

Thanks Staff for allowing this to be implemented

edit:

@Hollow, so for the armor, after discussing with a few other top 15 armor winners I am in favor of an Earth element Griffinrider Mount armor with a 2nd skill of either: Undeadify or Petrify. This could interchangeably be the effect throughout the other set items ie (pet/weapon/shield/misc.) with +potency and other flavor effects that enhance these statuses.

Originally I thought perhaps Prismatic Burn as a 2nd skill would be interesting but that may be too costly so the above 2 seem fitting to the theme of the set. But Staff can weigh in on this of course.

@The Hollow: Sorry but I was referring to the back to school items and if we could get multiples of them. Usually the system won't let you get the same item twice but I think if you add them in manually or through some other system maybe you can? I got 6 characters and don't wanna play on all of them each day if I can't get more rewards lol

Hey, I came in at #14.
My suggestion for the armor is:
quote:

FO Earth mount/dismount armor with a 2nd skill in each mode (just like the Paragon Fiend Mount).
In mounted mode it would be nice to have the skill be a spell-based skill that follows your weapon type and weapon element. The skill would do -35% damage to pay for a Bleed effect.
In dismounted mode, I would like it to have a weapon-based skill that gets the same eleComp as the normal attacks in this mode. Maybe even add some extra damage with a HP cost or something alike.

Finally, the armor should have 45/40/40 MRM and Darkness as secondary element.

EDIT: See Gwen's comment
For the pet:
quote:

Earth/Darkness toggle pet. Similar to Boiler Buddy in that it can inflict an Earth/Darkness Freeze on the monster (depending on whether it is in Earth or Darkness mode.

Shield:
quote:

Earth/Darkness toggle
Effect: +10 Potence to Freeze-like statuses on the monster
If it requires a penalty, make it -3 MRM or whatever is necessary

Weapons:
quote:

Earth/Darkness toggle with some extra effect

I donated for the Shield but since everyone wants the Shield to have some kind of potence i would like :

quote:

Shield Effect: +20 Status Potence at cost of a QC click-skill on it for 1 turn or 2

Why is better to have Status Potence on it? Because some said Armor should have 2 skills one in Dismount and one in Mount and those 2 skills can inflict different status effects for example one can be Entangle and one Petrify they do seem to fit the theme.

This is Sky, #15 on the donation board.

I'm going to spend some time thinking over more specifics but for the moment here are my thoughts.

The set should be dark/earth elemental.

I enjoy Lupul's Status potence effect on the shield, and I believe it makes sense thematically.

I would like the armor to be either a neutral lean or have the ability to switch between FO/FD, perhaps based on whether or not it's mounted? While mounted it's FO, while dismounted it's FD?

I believe the pet should inflict some type of status effect, like a petrify or entangle style effect, and potentially seek between dark/earth if dealing damage.

I would like for the armor to be able to have the helm removed if at all possible.

Ultimately as long as whatever the stuff brings to the table is unique I'll be happy.

EDIT: I actually really enjoy a lot of Joac's ideas as well.

Are donation contest items usually suppose to have unique mechanics? I don't think last years desert raider set did, though it did combine a bunch of mechanics that already existed into 1 armor.

You cannot win multiples of the same prize on the same character during the Back-To-School Contest, even if the prize is moved to your vault.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Captain Rhubarb

There is one other 'catch':
Char 1 gets prize A. That char can not win prize A again.
Char 1 puts that prize in vault.
Char 1 still can not win again.

Char 2 pulls item out of vault.
Char 2 (now with the item in their inventory) can NOT win the same prize.
Char 2 puts item back in vault.
Char 2 can WIN that prize.

The Veywild armor will use the player's face. You can activate the helm on the armor if used with the Misc. I've tried to move away from helms loading with armors since there are so many more options for faces in AQ.

I'm not a winner at all but I think this could be a fun way to introduce a new status for the items: Fossilization. The set itself has a theme of spooky, undead plant vegetation. The skill would be a nice combination of the two because trees can be fossilized over time.

Give it an ability like Petrification (turns to stone, increased wind resistance) but with an additional vulnerability to light (1.5*Earth Resistance) or maybe just increased Light damage instead of Wind damage.

Since it is a rider armor, maybe make it a multi hit armor that has a toggle that is ele-locked to Darkness or Earth damage? Would be trickier to use but both fit the theme of the set.

Side note, is there a possibility of us seeing the shield without the armor blocking the view?

Awesome, thanks Hollow! :)

So maybe if we get an "Earth Realm of Veywild's Curse" as the 2nd (Petrify or Undeadify) skill option it would be cool to see an earthy/moss filled background as a dark green/goldish hued landscape with vines on the sides from hanging trees. Perhaps a dark tower in the distant horizon with little shadows of running Veywild pets in the background similar to the way the Absolute Darkness spell transports you to a realm with running skeleton figures.

I sent this as a PM as well to you, but just so you know, the top 15 in discord is discussing what we want the Veywild armor to look like. We're very close to a consensus with all the top 15 we can find (me, Sky, Tarion, Annator, Joachim, Cloud, Kaitsuchi, Rogue, and tinyurl). We'll probably end up with agreement with at least 8 players.

@Kurtz96, if you see this, you're invited to join the discussion too

Would love for the pet to have undeadify or to work in a similar way to the doom knight weapons - except earth. We have Ebony but having a pet with that ability could work wonders. After turn 1 undeadify, turn 2 could attack with earth as if the enemy was weak against it if undead. If it was already undead, could just use attack 2.

Maybe the weapons and shield could act in a similar fashion so we have an earth doom option? Shield could provide a backlash similar to Zombie Hunter's shield?

@Hollow

So, we were able to get 8 of the top 15 to sign off on this idea for Veywild Armor, which is everyone we could reach on Discord. This idea is supported by Annatar (#1), Tarion (#2), Rouge (#3), Gwen (#7), Cloud (#12), Katsuichi (#13), Joachim (#14), and Sky (#15):

Veywild Armor
FO Earth armor with Darkness secondary. Has access to two skills:
• Mount/Dismount - While mounted, acts as a normal FO armor, and while dismounted, armor is locked to Earth and receives *elecomp
• Veywild’s Curse – Spell-based skill, follows STR/DEX/INT according to weapon. Deals 50% damage and attempts to inflict (Petrify/Undeadify), inflict with STR/DEX/INT, resist with END.

We want staff to choose between whether the second skill does Petrify or Undeadify (our short hand for tagging the monster as Undead, like Ebony Sepulchure Form). We thought staff should make the decision for balance reason and to adjust for what the other items in the set will do, since some people want petrify on pet and others want undeadify on pet.

Additionally, if the staff has the time/inclination, we would like a flavor effect where in the dismount mode the armor does extra damage in exchange for an HP cost. If possible, we would also like the SP Skill Veywild's Curse to permanently alter the background art, like a $100 champion set.

@Kurtz96, @Broccoli, and anyone else in top 15 who sees this, please feel free to give your approval/disapproval/suggestions for this armor. Although I doubt we can reach everyone, 14 of the top 15 has a nuke build for their main, so every FO build could use this armor, and the second skill makes it useful for FD builds. Also, we have precedent for a donation armor having both mount/dismount and a second skill with Thunderbird - and the minimum buy in for this contest was double the buy in for Thunderbird.

Came in at #11 (Miranda) - think the suggestions made above by Gwen and the others on discord are great and I support the idea for a spell-based skill that inflicts petrify / undeadify. Would be useful / usable for both FD & FO builds, though there likely are balance considerations with undeadify

Darkness as a secondary resist would be good, and I do like the idea of an additional flavour effect for dismount mode that does extra damage, but instead of an associated HP cost, it could be paid for by player taking additional damage when dismounted.

weapons / misc not really sure, but would be good if the shield offered some kind of status potence (+20 petrification potence (if armour skill is petrify), or +10 for freeze-type effects)

At the end of the day, happy with anything as long as it's interesting / somewhat unique / usable. Would be good if I could run this armour on one of my characters, yet understandably have no expectation that it will be strictly superior to something like terra bloodzerker or game-changing. Either way, I'm sure whatever the staff think up will be great!

^great to hear you're on board Miranda!

SHIELD: Yeah, I posted a request for a +potence petrify effect on the shield too and think those kinds of effects make sense for a petrify/undeadify theme on the set.

PET: An earth/darkness undeadify pet would be unique, fun and especially usable for all those who only went for the pet this contest :)

Also, we have precedent for a donation armor having both mount/dismount and a second skill with Thunderbird - and the minimum buy in for this contest was double the buy in for Thunderbird.

+100% agree with this Gwen. An appropriate comparison :)
