As the title says, I think decreasing the EXP limits a fine amount would serve everybody playing the game.

The thing with grinding levels in DF is that there is only so much content that after finishing all the content you are still a huge deal behind reaching to level cap. After that, you usually mindlessly spam Voltabolt quests, which gives you one of the best exps in little time and even then it takes you a long long time until you reach the cap. It is basically no fun grinding EXP in DF after the content is finished. It is just aimlessly mashing buttons and trying to complete some specific quests that give you a good amount of EXP over and over and over and over again. It is a waste of time.

Furthermore, there is no need for an EXP grind that will give the players a reason to continue playing after finishing the story content anymore. DF has evolved from that. We now have challenges. Dozens of them. These challenges are all different and fun to do unlike doing Voltabolt's quest 3783838 times. The challenges are very much enough to keep the players busy and interested.

On top of that, these challenges are mostly locked behind this specific EXP grind people have to do to actually become strong enough to do them. Many people do not have the patience and time to do an overly repetitive grind to be able to do these challenges, and the way that challenges are a huge part of the current content now, I think it would be better if people could reach that level they can enjoy them much more easily.

So, in a nutshell: I think the EXP grind is too repetitive, time consuming and unfun. It also no longer serves any real purpose because we now have challenges that will keep people playing the game instead. This EXP grind also is very discouraging for more casual players and players who can't afford to put so much time on no new content. With story releases decreasing and endgame content increasing it would be better if reaching endgame was made easier so that more people could enjoy all of the releases and thus more people would stay/become interested in DF.

Therefore I believe cutting the grind a good chunk would serve everyone the better and I suggest it. The single disadvantage that I see on that matter is that it would upset some endgamers rn because of all the extra time they put into leveling. Yet games change in time and their rules should adapt too. Once the number of your level was everything you could show off with and the grind was justified. Now it is the era of the challenges and I think the game still needs to adapt to that.

At the least, harder challenges should be worth a nice boatload of XP.

In general, bossfights don't really give any serious XP or gold rewards. Some offer good loot, but many others don't.

Nothing will break if the Dragon Challenges (taking relatively easy ones, without high-end loot, for an example) will each be worth 2x, or even 5x Voltabolt's- they take much more times to complete, and actually provide... well... an experience.

I agree with this. Like the posters before me said, it's just too tedious to level up. Not to mention that it seems that a good deal of DF players are now adults or in their late teens, and most of us do not have that much free time available anymore. I think that changing this aspect of the game would be beneficial to many.

Like the thread starter said, the game focuses a lot on endgame content, the challenge arena receives monthly content, it is an important part of the game now, why not make it more easily accesible? Not to mention that unless you like having the best gear around, there's little to no reason to be max level (or even above 60), since monsters and quests scale to your level (which is a good thing). Those who play mostly or only for the story have no need to level up after levels 50-60, as long as they know how to train their stats properly and use their classes well.

I might be wrong, but it seems that most of the current playerbase have DA, DmK or both, so everyone has access to ''the good stuff'' like the left side skills and DA equipment, another reason to not level up much if you're a casual player, because you're already pretty strong without making much of an effort.

Also, leveling up multiple characters is twice as boring, you already spent so much time, sometimes even years to have what you got, just knowing that I have to farm more levels, unlucky doom essences and thousands of defenders medals makes me yawn. It's demotivating. Btw, can we talk about DMs and the other resources someday? That's another grindfest in its own right.

I do not know what the devs think about this and how changing it would affect the game, but I would be great if we had better farming spots than Voltabolt or at least see a increase in EXP there, because Voltie's been the main farming spot for, I dunno, 13-14 years now? I'm sick of him

But yeah, great thread and I'm glad someone mentioned the elephant in the room. Sorry for being so salty, but that's something that has been bothering me for years now.

imo boss fights and especially inn boss fights should give much more xp. Im sure everyone who is struggling to level up like me is tired of repeating the voltabolt fights, we just need a fun way to level up so we acctualy enjoy our way to level 90 and to make it feel less like a chore. I really like replaying old storylines and especially the boss fights at the end, but it just feels like its not rewarding enough. same goes for inn boss fights. I really hope the devs do something about it, I like the story so much and its a shame that in order to progress in the game I have to fight an endless amount of robots instead of enjoying the really good parts of dragonfable.

I also feel that the EXP grind in DF is too tedious. I get that grinding is part of many RPGs, but it shouldn't feel as bad as grinding Voltabolt for hours and hours to get to 90. While it's not necessary to complete the story, it is basically mandatory for many inn challenges. This feels like a bit of a disconnect, since actually doing a challenge requires thinking and strategy, the opposite of a grind.

At the very least I'd prefer some alternatives to Voltabolt or have story quests reward more EXP in general, but I also wouldn't mind the EXP thresholds being lowered for high levels or inn challenges/hard boss fights rewarding substantially more EXP.
