COMING THIS WEEK!

Wabio Void Takeover:
The border reaches of the Void, the last shred of normal reality before its disturbing depths, are influenced by Lore in strange ways. There you can be ambushed by many threats: Physical, mental, real, imagined... Or shredded, fabulously haired, and apocalyptically powerful mental images that will haunt you forever.

You may even encounter a rare “Superstar” Wabio that guards his own rewards!

So are there going to be 2 different Wabios, one common and the other a superstar rarity? Or will it be in the pool with Sham?

A neat way to make use of prepared content rather than toss it based on War Results, and their items. Can only hope they aren't token items vs the version that would have went for gold.

Just a reminder for the aq team was it ever discussed whether we could get the alternative blarney war scenarios? Since Wabio is here it could pair nicely

I really like the return of the idea of a special variant Void Boss from Woolzard. It also allows the staff to bring the warring variants for the losing side so that the work on the items isn't wasted.

No worries, we haven't forgotten about the alternative scenarios! Those will be accessible as we stated before

Ok I am excited. I love Wabio - really hope I can get him as a house guard (or two - normal and superstar, like woolzard?)

Minimum number of monsters in one void rotation is 10.
Maximum number of monsters in one void rotation is 30.
Adventure quest can create multiple void rotations.

One other thing I thought of because of this release. With every new Void Takeover, the wait times will become longer and longer between each rotation comeback. Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a specialized shop or some kind of privilege that would let us access a specific monster out of the rotation order. Either having access to the Void Paintings shop (via the shop button that already exists but functionally does nothing for now) or being able to fight that specific void boss for the session login akin to paying Barrius or Gnuvian to fight a specific enemy outside of their rotational orders.

Also, perhaps it would be a good idea for future releases, to be able to access other monsters that were not "takeovers" like Frazzledrop and others through this same means.

I believe that's why the Staff already gave us the Paintings to purchase so you can have uninterrupted access anytime. Also, this idea would prove to be entirely unfair to those who paid 1,500 Tokens for that access.

Yes and no. Currently you can only purchase the painting when that void boss is around, the same time as you would when you would normally be able to fight it. Perhaps paying the way like Barrius or Gnuvian (IE a small fee) would be considered unfair for painting buyers, but I think it would still be a good idea to have a centralized paintings shop. Paying 1500 at the time versus paying 1500 at any other point of the year wouldn't invalidate the people who purchased it earlier. In both cases you're paying for a right to use later for an event that already has a rotation to it. Perhaps a compelling case can be made for a "sense of urgency" so that this painting shop would be more slightly more expensive (2500 vs 1500) than the one you'd normally get when their time comes around as a meaningful reason to buy when the monster comes back, and to satisfy those who bought the original item.

Addendum: I should have noted earlier, but both new void takeovers and holidays interrupt the rotation so as to delay the next iteration. This actually makes it even harder to wait and buy the painting for something that was designed to be broadly accessible since now even adventurers can enter the void through the Events Page (when it was previously a Guardian-only feature via the Moon or the Guardian Portal).

^Ah, you had a higher price for this in mind I see. Well that would at least be more feasible as to not upset anyone who already paid for the Painting. And yes, it also wouldn't defeat the purpose of obtaining them as one normally would do in the Shop when it's rotation time comes around.

Essentially you're seeking 2 price points: 1) the slightly higher "gotta have it now price" or waiting for 2) the ever growing "slower rotation cycle price"

edit: @below, does bring up a valid issue with your idea for those special pricing token events that could be taken advantage of if those paintings were available all at one time.

So a couple updated thoughts from the other day.

I checked the price for Gnuvian and Barrius. Both charge 250 Z-tokens for their services to skip their normal rotations for a desired monster. So that is established as the fee for my earlier argument. Now that said, let's say that this was something we were allowed to do for the Void. This would actually be a lot more fair than I initially thought in principle because:

1. It's for the session only, as opposed to the painting which is for every session. If you never buy the painting but do this regularly, over time you actually would be paying more, validating the reason to buy the painting normally. This encourages people to save until they buy the painting.

2. If you buy the painting, AND you did it by buying it via this method, then you would have actually spent 1750 tokens. Which might still be considered unfair, but in reality sunk costs exist thereby rewarding those who bought at the "right" time versus those who paid to skip like they would have.

Now on the other way that I thought of. Let's say you did wait for Black Friday. Using the earlier price point that I used (2500), that would be 1250 tokens, which is not all that much less than buying it "normally" versus out-of-order. There are few reasons this is actually more fair than it initially looks:

1. Black Friday is a 3-day event. This is less frequent than a void rotation (1 week for every ~3 months), and even less frequent than a seasonal holiday (1 month every 12 months). There's already a huge opportunity cost for this. If we agreed that time = lower cost a fair compensation, than this is actually incredibly fair because we reward waiting by giving people a lower price point.

2. In reality, you're probably buying in bulk for this event. This is something Costco does as a business strategy to encourage sales. So unless you already had everything you wanted (you probably wouldn't be taking advantage anyways), you're probably spending even more than you would have should you have done it normally. You are coming off with the boatload of paintings but you also spent a lot of money in the process. Utility arguments can be reasonably made but money spent is money spent.

3. Again if you were taking advantage of Black Friday, and you were buying a painting to take advantage of the savings, I have to ask how are we doing this? If you're using a painting you already to buy another copy of that painting you already have, the sunk costs come into play again. In the worst scenario that painting actually cost you 3000 tokens. With black friday, assuming you bought the first at the normal price (1500), and then the next with the discount price (750), that's 2250 Z's. With the perma painting idea that I have proposed, it's 2000 Z's (1250 + 750). This is indeed cheaper but the wait time is still incredible for this. Either way the original buyers are still rewarded because they would have spent less overall than those trying to take advantage. There is a luckiest scenario where the monster you want just happens to be there AND it's black Friday but this again requires incredible patience and luck (750 + 750). I will concede there are people with incredible amounts of self-control but there are many out there with less mind over matter. Either way the original buyers come off with the most savings overall, and still take more advantage than those buying from the centralized shop.

That is true, you would still get significant savings on Black Friday. There's virtually no scenarios where a 50% savings doesn't make you pay less than you would have normally paid. Yet that is still fair considering you may have to wait a while to get those savings. A lot of products launch at a high price, and a lot of people in real life wait for the Christmas shopping season awhile later to get an item in question (like video game consoles or GPU's), or they just wait months or years after to get the item when prices inevitably come down. But that doesn't mean people who got it earlier are cheated out. It just means they valued it higher, couldn't wait and bit the bullet versus the people who are patient and don't value it as much. Waiting on Black Friday is an instance of that behavior of substituting waiting for costs. Depending on how you value your time, it's 33,000 "normally" vs 22,000 + waiting.

I will say though you guys are right in that waiting vs. paying as a isn't really an idea that AQ would do so perhaps an alternative method ought to be thought of. Perhaps ruleandrew is onto something where we can have multiple rotations available at a time. IE lists of 10 at a time, and you can fight whom are available on each rotation. Although this too has issues with "cheapening" the paintings because it would make the rotation go faster and thus also reduce the reason to buy them.

Pushed back 2 days. Should we be expecting something special? Extra Rewards?

While I'd love that, probably not a good habit to assume we'll get extra for delays

Probably be a unique boss fight which just happens to require a bit more effort than normal ones. Should be fun though or frustrating. Either way, it's coming soon enough.

The release is live!

This week Imr focused on our backlog of bugs while Kam handled the release. Turns out Kam had bugs of his own to deal with, but more the intestinal type. So we needed some extra time and had to deal with the war win variants a little differently. Instead of the "Superstar" Wabio rare encounter, the war win variant is an alt color of the lvl 150 version of the armor.

Sweet!

But big question: which bugs did IMR go through and fix?

To confirm, there is not rare "shiny" version like with woolzard?

spoiler:

Wabio is like other Warlic fights in other AE games. He has a energy attack that causes him to gain mana, and when he has max mana he needs to use fire attacks to decrease his mana. When he has no mana again he switches back to energy.

I am confused by the armor. It sacrifices damage to boost spell damage. This would indicate it is a spellcaster armor. But its other effects are hybrid focused. So it is meant for hybrids or mages?

Seems best for hybrids.

I do think the armor might be bugged, though. Damage even with the toggle off seems very, very low to me. (250 int/0 str) Does this mean stat damage compared to normal is only taking HALF from INT, or does it take full INT stats plus full STR stats, thus boosting damage for hybrids? The info subs seems a bit confusing.

I always play mage variants, so disappointing for me. That's the cards, though.

The MP/SP heal is abyssmal, so even playing for that reason isn't great. I wonder what the art difference is. I bought the superstar variant, and I wont buy the other to compare. Bleh

Color probably. Superstar is red and normal is the standard warlic robe color.
