I think it's often super easy to focus on the negative, or to only raise your voice when the devs are doing something wrong. This causes most of the longform feedback on the forums to be complaints about various grievances that players have or demands for new features.

To remedy this, I'd like to talk about three things I think the DF devs do very well. Hopefully others can chime in on things the DF devs do that players appreciate as well!

Player-friendly Monetization: First up, I think DF has done a great job moving away from player-unfriendly monetization in the recent years. While other games expand their P2W aspects and never nerf paid content, DF has done the opposite.

First, DF hasn't been using powercreep to sell new DC/SO content. The team probably could have sold a lot more Chronomancer and Chronocorruptor armors if they gave the classes massive buffs, but the fact that they were willing to release them as is (and presumably rebalance them when they have more time), instead of tripling their numbers to sell them, is really a mark of integrity in my eyes. Instead of relying on P2W, recent monetization has been primarily about QoL features, Cosmetics, or small sidegrades for slotted weapons.

Verly has also significantly buffed Non-DC, Non-SO classes in the last few years - starting with Technomancer in 2018, but also with DeathKnight and Bulwark DragonLord in 2021. This means that players who only have a DA are now much closer power level-wise to players with all of the paid content (such as myself).

Verly has also demonstrated a willingness to nerf DC or SO Classes when they're out of line - for example, Chaosweaver and UWE both got (well-deserved) nerfs. He's also been willing to nerf DC/SO items for balance reasons as well, such as with the Hamsters/NSoD Inn nerfs. Despite my occasional complaints about too many balance changes, I think the willingness to balance all content is a really good sign for DF's longevity, as it means that any design mistakes (even with DC/SO content) will be caught.

Communication: I think the DF team has significantly improved their communications with their playerbase in recent years. I was here in 2014/15, when Ash would yell at players who disagreed with his balance changes, and also in 2017-19 when we got a bunch of unannounced balance changes with little justification. Though I still have some gripes with how we think about balance, Verly's communication on Twitter is a massive improvement over past eras of df.

Quality of Life Features: Finally, I really appreciate the massive amount of new QoL features that Verly has been implementing. From slotting weapons to loading saved equipment, these changes really help make DF more playable!

I second this. I really really love this game and it says a LOT that I've been playing this for like.. more than 10 years now. (I think).
And that speaks to the level of quality and dedication that the team has put into this game.

Personally speaking, I kinda feel bad about what happened to Ash, but thats.. Me I guess.
Communication is through the freaking roof. I dont think any of the other games have an active forum like this one does.
Even AQW is dead in the forum dept I believe.

And I am SO grateful for the changes made to the classes that allow for non DC to at least compete on the same level as those that have paid items and the like. (Not Deathknight - But thats a personal thing - I can see a LOT of players enjoying some of those changes :) )

I just wanna appreciate the devs who've been churning out updates and updates for this game like they have, AND for so long. Especially with some of the reworks to some of the quests of yore!
Since I live on the other side of the world, I get the updates on Saturday morning, so its a welcome thing to wake up for on a weekend - All the stuff (even if its stuff I cant actively take part in like the Inn Challenges) - The fact that its THERE.
And that its so much STORY in there to boot. Its freaking impressive and astounding.

In my books, DF's got the best team and I honestly am so glad (MQ is my fav game, but thats cos of the mechas. No comparison).
And Me (Chaos), and Aeon (My dragon) do genuinely appreciate the whole damn team for everything :D

However fussy I can be over story and timeline related stuff sometimes, it's only out of love for the game and the team. Their clear passion for making Dragonfable the best it can be has rubbed off on me for sure. :D

Together Dove and Verlyrus have taken the game to new heights in terms of pretty much every aspect: art, gameplay mechanics, storytelling (heck the even expanded the deep lore in some really cool ways) and I agree that they communicate and interact with us really well too.

I daresay the game is better than it's ever been and it's largely down to them. I don't really think I can sing their praises enough.

I'm usually at a loss for proper words for posts like this but I truly do enjoy the lengths the devs have taken the world building for the game and the overall narrative for the story. The relationship we have with other characters feel especially more grounded or nuanced in certain avenues. It always a pleasure to think about how Draco has had more of a place now, if not necessarily always a role like in Calamity, in story content than they did in Books 1 and 2.

I also find myself appreciating the new methods they've utilized to tell some of the stories in the game regardless if they're big or small. Serious, Comical, or terrifying (Aspenvale Academy is still fresh in my mind)

It stuff like this that makes me glad I've stuck with the series after all these years.

I am an old player from 2007. I play on and off when I can because this game will always have a spot in my heart.
This game has had a major influence on my childhood and I will always hold it dear. I would love for everyone who works on this game to know that I appreciate the effort and energy that they have put into this game. This is something I will always consider to be a gem of the internet.

I began playing back in the late 2000's. Started playing again recently, and it's just as much fun as it used to be. I'm grateful that the Artix team has migrated their games onto a hub so we the players can keep enjoying them. The work put into everything from the quality of the artwork, to the stories and characters, has always been awesome to me. I'm really glad I started playing again.

The way the games changed in terms of it's storytelling, balancing, writing and QoL elements tells me the devs care immensely about the game and honestly have done absolutely fantastically with what I've seen since coming back, i genuinely hope to see more from going forward and hope to see more given back to the devs.
