I've been reading up on classes and tier rankings between all the different ones throughout the game. Time and time again I've come across how DoomKnight is considered to be one of the most powerful classes available in the game. Despite the skill loadout/scaling I've found that the sustain on this class is too often its most fatal flaw. This proves to be quite a problem when fighting enemies with high HP/damage, making it not quite ideal for challenge fights. I'm wondering why some people swear by this class over others when the damage doesn't seem to be able to make up for the lack of sustain, and if there's anything I'm missing that could potentially make a difference in how effective this class can be?

Perhaps you have yet to see how it is used in the Inn, where your high HP/damage foes are concentrated at. If you figure out how to use it properly, its scaled damage should fair enough that the scaled MP costs are barely a nuisance. Part of that is the Favor-Inner Darkness finisher. Since favor resets CDs that are not of its own or Inner's, it allows Doomknights to add some layer of sustain when their debuffers would normally have high CDs. The usual approach is to Dark Ritual the foe from the get go (since you're risking it all anyway, man up and do it right from the start), Corruption, Malefic, then use its lifestealer or weakness seeking skill when they are off CD. This can be supplemented by the DoT skill. Once enemy HP is low enough, Favor is used along with corruption and DoTs to just chip some more HP out of the foe. Heavily armed players would gearswap to Uragiri/Veraad at the least, slot Lucky Hammer, and occasionally Red Fruit to annihilate the remaining HP of the enemy with the closing move Inner Darkness, which can clock around 6k dmg with the right setup.

For more data on that, just like how I advised another player, please check @Astral Codex's YT page.

First up, while DoomKnight does not have the highest sustained damage, its still damage is quite good. At level 90, DoomKnight has ~900 DPT against ??? enemies if you use Corrupt/Lingering off cooldown, which makes it better than the vast majority of classes in the game. There's only a handful of classes with higher DPT, namely: Chaosweaver (lol), Archivist (1.3k-1.6k DPT), DW (1.3k-1.6k), Ranger (~1.2k), Ascendant (1.1k-1.3k), Entropy (~1.1k), EE (1-1.2k), and ChronoZ (1-1.2k). This decent DPT combined with good healing from life carve would already make the class quite good.

However, there's three things that make DoomKnight truly exceptional. First, Void Barrier with -Health stack and Drain Essence gives you full direct damage immunity for 3 turns (on top of reflecting a decent amount of damage). This works regardless of how much boost or bonus the enemy has. Second, Favor + Inner gives it up to 9k damage average in a single turn (and 12k damage with red fruit), which blows every single other class out of the water (with perhaps the exception of CDE). Finally, Malefic Binding lets you randomly stun bosses regardless of their immobility resist, letting you desync enemy rotations or just turn them into a training dummy.

These three things make DoomKnight good enough to do every single Inn fight it can enter without food or extra potions. As Laeon has said, you can find videos for every hard Inn fight with Doomknight on my Youtube channel.

Appreciate the replies! After some research and trial/error I managed to beat the Ultra Dracolich, but I'm stuck on the corrupted pet dragon challenge (not to mention the daunting task of the Fallen Purpose challenge). I came across a post about the best stats for DoomKnight, but noticed that the emphasis was on LUK/WIS/END leaving out STR. I've tried switching my stats to this load out but have been having mixed results. Why is this supposedly the best stat build for DoomKnight?

Update: Beat Doomed Destroyer, now all that's left is Fallen Purpose. I've heard either DeathKnight or DoomKnight is best for this one. I actually beat Doomed Savior with DeathKnight and Doomed Destroyer with DoomKnight, so it's come down to those two.

The best build for DoomKnight is STR/END/CHA. It's not very good for Fallen Purpose because it has no shield, while Fallen Purpose is a shield check fight.

I mean, it's certainly doable, but it's a bad matchup.

I recommend using something like Paladin or Ranger instead.

If it came down to paladin or ranger which would you say is the best for fallen purpose? Really struggling on this one and been trying a lot of different strategies.
