I know people think I'm an idiot, and perhaps I am, although I've been able to figure out every Inn fight I've desired to do, even if it took me a few tries....

until this one.

How in the devil can you tell what element Drakath is using in a timely manner so you don't waste so many turns trying to damage him?

The strategy guides and the videos don't tell exactly how to see that.

I know that sometimes he announces it, although he does not always dependably it seems.

I can half the time or so kill Ash in time (depends if my Dark fires correctly, I'm a Doom Knight, have been ever since its inception, purchased the $65 package the weekend it was released), it's Drakath and the element switching that perplexes me.

Can someone please inform me?

Or is this fight just completely bugged and / or RNG and I have to try my luck until I get it if I even desire to continue it?

If you're color blind, may RNG have mercy on you on this. Check on Drakath's sword when he's going Royal Right (raises his sword high). There will be spheres of elemental light that'll flash in specific colors (Which is why GL if you're color blind) to notify the player what elements you need to strike him in specific sequence. Apart from his phase one, 4 elements always in random order: Fire, Water, Light, Dark.

Oh, I was just watching the final sword's element! :(

I wasn't watching the full order of the sequence flashing. I guess I should have done that. :(
