Our Heroes have been running around Lore for years now, stomping on spreading fires, fighting villains and madmen, dragging Aria back home no matter how much she protests. We've waged war, fought in the arena, duelled and destroyed.
No matter what Jaania says, our Heroes would have come to help if they hadn't been frozen. It's what they do.

One thing we haven't seen the Hero do much, is help fix damage and (re)build.

Who'd be interested in a chance to pick a site in Lore's wilderness, clear land, gather resources and invite characters to settle there? In short, a town-building game?
A Hero could decide whether or not to invite the Rose and/or Guardians, whether to clear out all local monsters or try to tame them, what kind of businesses to sponsor, whether to set up trade or be isolationist, whether to invest a lot of time there or just casually prod it along, whether to become Mayor or just another citizen.

Thought experiment-wise, interesting as such a feature can theoretically be used in a similar manner to AQ's Estate system (should help in reducing burnout incidents whenever wars crop up). Realistically, if we were to take a page on AQ again, the resources necessary to even try implementing such feature is not feasible for a dev team with only 3 full-timers. Not especially so when the DF devs' current grand plan involves reimagining Book 1 once Book 3 is done. Let's not even mention how long the update to Hard/Doomed Mode has been on the backburner already.

Purely as a thought experiment, then.
How would you all like to build up a town?

Would you put yourself in charge, or would you open up elections and gather candidates from across Lore? Would you want any kind of political power / influence at all, or would you suffice to build a house in town and remain the friendly neighbourhood Hero?
Would you build a Guardian tower or found a brand new knighthood, or would you get some of the more trustworthy Rose agents in? Or would you get some of all of the above?
Would your town be open to any kind of creature, so long as they keep the peace, or would you only allow in specific species?

What would your general policy be like?
Self-sufficiency or trade?
Diplomacy or isolationism?
Magic or technology?

Notwithstanding that this is a necro, anything that is but a friendly neighborhood hero is fanfiction material due to not really fitting narrative (honestly, it'll even be more interesting how the devs will design the narrative that would give the DF Hero sufficient reason to go down the dark path of Fleshweaving as it is as much a part of our narrative to be a Soulweaver). You can go ahead and (re-)do the Final 13th/Calamity Saga epilogue quest to see how the Hero fared, and definitely showing not the kind who deals in politics to be competent enough to lead a nation, let alone village.

A Tarrey Town-esque escapade in DF eh? Sounds kinda cool.

I imagine something like this could actually be pretty beneficial story-wise. All of the folks that abandoned Willowshire might want some place new to call home, right?

In terms of how I would go about it, well since this a thought experiment, why not imagine that such an endevour might occur in response to an opportunity. Let's say that the change in the climate of the Deadlands due to the Proclamation Rift leads to a transformation of its environment. Where there was only a dark, barren, undead-infested wasteland, there is now a vast green region covered in grasslands and young wetlands. No need to clear land when one has the chance to reclaim land once thought lost to the devastation of an ancient elemental war. Heck, you could even tear down some of nearby Willowshire for the building materials.

Keeping Tarrey Town in mind, I like to think of a place for people from all over the Land of Dragons and possibly beyond to settle. Not only former townspeople of Willowshire as I've mentioned, but also displaced Gnomes from Popsprocket, Ice Elves from the Northlands, people of Dragesvard who aren't keen on fungi or dragons, immigrants from Azaveyr, refugees from Duat, and anyone just looking for a fresh start.

Would probably be best to keep the Rose out though, since they don't exactly have the best track-record with non-human races, to put it lightly.

Oooh, immigrants from the rest of the world...! Hadn't even thought of that.

Imagine, Azaveyran magitech and Gnomish technomancy in one place.
Throw in a couple of (ex-)Rose magi, and our theoretical little town could become a center of new learning in the spirit of long-lost Hawkscry.
In time, we could even have Lagohm teach classes, once the rifts are better understood and controlled, and maybe whatever Water-based entities are currently invading the Deadlands could make an addition.

I'd like to see something like that: the founding of an academy.
It could be an arc, much like the construction of the Voidship; gathering building materials, recruiting teachers, spreading the word so students will attend...
