Warlic's staff is unexpected. Ideally it's a spell booster with quickcast mp regen but will keep expectations low.

Don't forsee quick cast MP heal

I could see Omni spell boost with either a Mana barrier quick cast, or a non quick cast MP heal.

Warlic's inverse mana thingy is innate to him I think, so his staff should help dissipate excess mana right? Maybe we can use it to damage enemy's MP, skill/quickcast skill.

Warlic's entire deal in gameplay is either:

    * Omni-element seeking with his main attack (as a guest)

    * Having his mana work in reverse - most likely a nod to how Merlin supposedly ages in reverse

I'm not entirely sure how that would be balanced if either of those were made available to the Chosen. Warlic in the rare cases where he's the player-character is pretty notable for being extremely overpowered.

Well, in DragonFable, the staff (as a player weapon) has a chace to recover some mana on hit. So it might have mana recovery on hit here as well? And perhaps a built-in spell?
Man, I would really love some Call/Summon Warlic spells too at some point.

Maybe it will summon a Wabio who will mercilessly beat the foes with his staff hahaha

Hm. So Warlic's base attack animation is similar to runic's binding spell, and it even does omni elevuln. So, let's say we kind of keep that theme, make it Magier

So The weapon pays some %, to have Omni spell boost. It's harm element, and compresses a spell that pays half damage for omni elevuln.

I'd spend an UR ggb for that

Due to the extra time needed for the Mage class update, there's a slight delay with this week's items. Expect the arrival of GGBs later today Friday!

Does anyone have the Arcane Rift Key Misc? How is it?

Looking at the info subs, it looks quite powerful. I think this is the first misc in the game that can cast Void Burn.

The regeneration effect on the Arcane Rift Key says -1 rounds remaining after a round for both myself and the monster. The fragile also says -1 rounds and is disappearing. From what I understood the effects are all meant to be permanent upon infliction.

Also feels a bit odd not to have an MP option. Is this due to the small MP recovery effect for both player and monster?

Finally, it mentions the foe's arcane "skil" in the battle popup when you fail to inflict.

The Arcane Rift Key seems like it could be fun, but the inability to stack the effects due to being once per battle really takes the wind out of that particular sail. The first time I activated, and tried to activate it again the subsequent turn, I thought it was bugged. Seems like a silly restriction to me, especially given that it applies effects to both player and monster.

The Warcaster staves, given that they work on all elemental spells, are quite nice.

The Magus staves, the things I had been looking forward to the most, feels somewhat disappointing to me. Being replicas of the staff that Warlic, one of the greatest magic users across the entire AE multiverse, uses, I had expected something more universal and/or powerful. I don't know, maybe I'm just missing something, but they just don't seem to live up to Warlic's reputation. Heck, why couldn't the Magus staves just have been the Warcaster staves instead? That would have seemed more worthy of Warlic's power and reputation, I think, and made them far more useful too.

Also, the sizes of the Magus staves seems off... as if they're bigger than they should be. It makes them look quite goofy.

Hmm. Does the Magus Staff's built-in spell work with the Archmage Apprentice Armor's mana flow ability? If it does then that combination could be quite good.

If not I'll stick with using Archmage Apprentice + Grand Erosion as my go-to Water damage option.

With the mention of Arcane Rift Key's stacking - it seems that mana regeneration effects can't stack with the mana regeneration of this item, and I'm hearing rumors that the fragile isn't properly reducing monster HP (in addition to the fragile not being properly permanent). I'm unsure whether the fragile stacks with other fragile effects but if it's currently not permanent then it doesn't matter until it becomes permanent anyway.

The Magus Staves design are a departure from what Warlic has typically been able to do, yes, and I was hoping for omni-elevuln and/or an omni-spell boost. However, using the claw arm's idea on a compressed spell how they did is a very good effect. Multiple casts drop the eleshield lower and lower while increasing the elevuln. If you're able to regen MP consistently, the effects here are outstanding. I can't complain, and I had said it should have a specific set of effects or bust, but I was wrong.

The warmaster staves doing a 38% panic when casting any spell is a dream come true for me personally, and I welcome more burn stuff for my burn eater character... speaking of which...

The arcane key rift misc is my burn character's dream item. I run int/cha/luk and Luna Neko and everything is burn inflict so it can burn eat with it's 1.41 elecomp free burn eater skill.

I essentially cast a perm burn spell turn 1, then turn 2 use the misc to do the perm harm burns, but use hexbound to transfer the players to the monster. Then I essentially eat 2 perma burns. This is more damage than any of the burst spells and the misc is my damage misc, too. Very very very good misc for this particular character.

The mana cascade spell is odd. I think it would have been better as a mana siphon or something. The name of the spell doesn't match what it does, despite it also doing a water burn to the monster's MP. This should siphon IMO. However, this spell combined with monsterlord reaver weapon is disgustingly strong. 15 power burn in 1 cast, 26 in 2, 36 in 3.... WHAT IN THE HECK! I'll also use with my burn eater char!!! It is replacing the water version of griffin airstrike for sure.

The guest- ooof. Bad. This should have been a common GGB. bad bad bad

Overall a very good haul of GGB's

100%. I am a huge fan of quickcasting but seeing the once per battle, now I don't feel like buying it. Not sure why we need to limit the usage if we are paying enough cost, it's already balanced, no?

I would normally agree, but I think making those effects permanent might one qualifier that justifies it. Self inflicted burn might be another. While it is easy to transfer it or dispel it with a couple of shield options, not everyone has those, as well. Also, since void is involved they almost always put additional hoops/qualifiers when dealing with Void . I don't think it's that big of a deal in this case, personally.

The misc is not only a perfectly acceptable one to use for an accuracy and damage buff for any Mage, but the skill it contains is a bonus. And for burner eaters it's icing on the cake.

Yeah, the Arcane Rift Key is a perfect example of how items with once per battle effects should be designed, i.e., still very powerful after the 1/battle effect has been used.

To reiterate how bad call Astral Mire is,

    Consider it's a UR:

    Info subs: Call Astral Mire

    quote:

Water guest, neutral damage/accuracy leans. Toggles between a 2-hit damage mode dealing +10% damage as MC vs foes that have MP below standard value to cast a spell for its level, and a 3-hit mode where it trades 50% guest damage (so 30% Melee) to replenish (10 x LowMPTrigger / 0.85)% Melee worth of MP per hit that connects, where LowMPTrigger is 1.2 if the enemy is below MP value for spell cast, 1 otherwise.

This guest seems terrible for a UR, or I'm missing something. First off, what's LowMPTrigger? What monsters qualify? Only caster mobs that use MP? I just tested and I get 231 MP heal if all 3 hits connect vs a mob that uses it's MP. Vs CPT, it healed 183. The formula says 10 TIMES "LowMPTrigger" which above was +10%/.85% Melee. If there's no trigger we have 11.76% Melee per hit. If the LowMPTrigger is +10 would this mean 100/.85? And then 117.64% Melee? Which seems like an awful lot. So not only confused about what this is actually saying, and who this trigger works on...but in-game it's terrible regardless.

183 vs CPT and 231 vs a mob who uses it's MP and when low.

    Vs...

    quote:

Mana Bat (Same element ...water, but this heals based on damage)

    MP HEALING MODE
    Hits: 2
    Type: Magic
    Element: Water
    Damage 1-2 2-5 4-8 6-11 8-15 10-20 13-25 16-32
    Stat% 41.77 77.99 108.21 141.42 174.64 207.86 241.08 279.27
    BTH 12 17 22 27 32 37 42 48
    EFFECT
Click on the guest to swap between attack mode† and MP healing mode††.
Mp healing mode heals your MP equal to the damage dealt times the listed multiplier.
    Level 10 30 50 70 90 110 130 150
    Mult 3.48686 2.39886 1.95307 1.72383 1.57040 1.59944 1.62784 1.64450

ANd..because it's based on damage, would get Ferocious strikes....and since based on damage, it gets enhanced with anything that increases it's damage like more CHA, elevuln, guest eleempower, a +% misc like summoning stone, or other +% stuff from a few armors, etc..

ANd wouldn't you know it, can easily bump it's MP heal well into the 300's, and nearly 400 with not much boosting (elevuln only, in fact)..and could likey push this way way higher.

So if I wanted a water guest that heals MP, I'd grab the RARE box and get call mana bat and not waste a UR on Astral Mire with terrible MP heal and confusing code/stipulations/trigger.

Maybe this guest can be re-looked at. It's objectively worse than an old rare box option of the exact same element

Although I'm happy to see more spellcasting support, I feel somewhat conflicted about this release. I'm going to overlook Astral mire as that's already been elaborated upon.

  • The Magus staffs cost a rare box, but offer +20% spell boosts, as well as a compressed spell? While this is undoubtedly lower than the arcane cutlasses, I don't see why these staffs are only considered rare box items. To me, these staffs further contribute to the problem of rare box items being better than their ultra-rare counterparts.
  • Mana Cascade has great potential, but is almost entirely undermined by its execution. A 50% Melee MP burn (i) isn't very powerful, (ii) is further undermined by MP regeneration, (iii) takes until after your foe has taken their turn before activating, and (iv) costs 915 MP per cast, so you can't consistently apply it.
  • As I have stressed before, the single biggest problem is the paucity of accessible spellcasting options. As nice as these items are, they contribute nothing to solving that problem. Not to mention, they are aligned to elements where we already have a greater supply of existing options.

I want to reiterate that it's great to see the continuing growth of spellcasting support. It's just that the execution could use a little work. I suspect a part of that comes down to the relentless schedule and the delays associated with Mage (which has its own issues).
