Forgotten Blues

Chapter One : Seaquake

I woke up from the noises of the torrents splashing with the might of a great god to the side of my cruise ship. We had hit rough waters, and everyone except me was asleep. Our wavy stateroom for four people still felt like a really cramped room for two people. My throat was desert dry and desperately needed a glass of water, so I went into the restroom to freshen up. I got a cup and filled it with tap water on the faucet, the water looked clean, clean enough to drink - or not. I learned to never trust something unless you really know it. I took a glance at the unstained mirrors, and noticed that my eyes lids must have weighed tons. My eyes were red as blood. Clearly, I needed more sleep, but I stared at the mirror for no known reason.

* * *

I have been up for hours now, thinking what to do on the first day of this cruise. But I can't do that now. Down to sleep it is!

I dreamt of seven people, and a wolf on… an island? It somehow looks like Hawaii. And as usual, Lucy was overreacting to something. (She's my girlfriend, in a way. I've never actually asked her, but I like her and she likes me.) I see Lucy holding a baby wolf, staring at a rescue copter hovering in the air above them. Were we on a deserted island? I saw Trent on the rope connected to the copter, his black hair flowing all over his face with the copter making rapid winds. His brown eyes were locked on a little grey cave near the beach. Samantha was taking care of two little children. Her brown hair was torn and her brown eyes filled with awe grief. I saw myself, my dream image on the copter. Then there was a boy, about our age. He had red hair and green, relieved eyes. Everyone was collecting things out of the cave, and got on the silver rescue copter.

"Zack! Zack! Wake up, sleepyhead! " Lucy was smacking my head with a pillow and yelling in a really, really loud voice. 'I had to wake up eventually. Why yell into my ears?' I thought, pulling a fluffy pillow over my head.

I was the only one still in pajamas, I guess they must be in a hurry because its only six O'clock in the morning. I got properly dressed in jeans and a T - shirt. Room service was free and fast so, that was awesome. We ordered a pepperoni pizza for breakfast. While I was waiting for the pizza to arrive, I examined the room. The walls were painted white, with a closet next to the left bed, there was a table, and a mirror to the right bed. The bathroom was next to the front door (which really shouldn't be there). Actually once you get settled into the room, it doesn't seem that small. This awesome stateroom could be a great price in other expensive cruises. This is great!

Knock - Knock! The pizza is probably here, I went to open the door, but the delivery boy opened it with some master keycard. The keycard was a bright golden color, and printed the numbers : 5278. The man was giving me the evil eye. Why? I think it has something to do with staring at the keycard.

The pizza's aroma said that this may be the best one in the world. We took it, and tipped the man well (Five Dollars). Then ate the polka dotted pizza, and it tasted as great as it smelled.

After that great meal, all four of us went to explore the giant cruise ship.

"Where should we go now?" Lucy asked.

"Maybe the deck?" I replied, still on the bed.

"Yeah! It's not cold today! To the deck it is!" Trent agreed eagerly.

"Right!" Samantha commented.

And to the deck we went. The deck was really hot, it was so hot, this could be mistaken for Las Vegas. We all walked up to the front of the deck, and watched the sunrise. 'Rumble, Rumble!'

"Did I just feel an earthquake?!" Trent cried.

"We're in the middle of the ocean, how could there be an earthquake?" replied Samantha, leaning on a chair.

Suddenly, the ship rocked and rumbled, HARD! Samantha fell off her chair and the ship captain screamed on the microphone that we were sinking! The left of the ship exploded, and the ship became lopsided. Tables, chairs and people were falling on the side of the ship! A large table fell on my head, and I blacked out.

Chapter two : Deserted

I woke up in a dark, damp cave, I was pretty cold in here, but the floor was very warm. It looked like it was cleaned out good. I was sleeping on a pile of comfortable twigs, and there was a twig bed on my left, and another two across the room. The cave was black with lots of rough walls. Also, I didn't feel any dust on the floor, but it did feel a little wet though. The cave was a little cramped, it was only large enough for about a few people. To my left, was a metal pan, and some rocks and in the middle of the cave was ashes. The ext to the cave was in the middle, to the right wall. I tried to walk out, but my head was in too much intense pain to move. Eventually, I fell asleep.

The next morning, I awakened from my deep slumber to the aroma of smell of berries, oranges, and coconuts. Some one must be eating them! I ran out the cave, despite the ache in my head, and saw Lucy, Trent, and Samantha! Lucy was lying on the sandy beach straight ahead the cave. Trent and Samantha was eating fruit, and it looks like they were both really worried.

"Oh my god! You're all here??!” I said in a relieved voice, “This is awesome!?"

"Finally you're awake! You slept for two days straight!" replied Samantha, gritting her teeth on the berries she is eating.

"Two days... Where am I?" I asked in a dumb tone

“We’re on a deserted island. You can't see that?" (Clearly Trent was in a bad mood.)

"Why are you angry?" I asked, almost punching him.

"WHY AM I ANGRY? WHY AM I ANGRY? WE'RE ON A DESERTED ISLAND, WITH NO FOOD BUT WILD FRUIT THAT TASTE LIKE DIRT!" he screamed.

He formed a fist and punched me hard on the stomach. I walked away after that.

Lucy was sitting near the water on the sandy beach. She didn't notice me, so I thought I might surprise her.

"BOO!" I yelled, shaking her shoulders.
"AH!" Lucy yelled. she jumped up and turned around, "ZACK!". She got a worried look and hugged me.

"Owwies. You can hug hard." I complained.

"Don't ruin the moment." She complained back.

After that, we went to see Trent and Samantha.

"Hey Zack, sorry for that earlier." said Trent, with a guilty face

"It was nothing." I replied, feeling my stomach that he punched, with my hand.

"Lets go inside. I'm getting sleepy" said Lucy, yawning.

"We're not going to see the sunset?" asked Samantha, pointing at the sun.

"Ummm, maybe tomorrow." said Lucy, shrugging her shoulders.

"Alright..." Samantha said, fiddling with her hair.

And we all went into the cave.

"Hey Zack, do you like what I to the cave?” asked Lucy with a eager face, “Do you like the beds??"

"Yeah, they're all great!” I commented “But it is a little cold in here."

"Trent is gathering firewood right now!" she replied, pointing to the burn in the middle of the cave.

A few minutes later, Trent came back with a handful of dry wood.

"I'm back! Everyone cold?"

"Freezing." I replied, rubbing my hands together.

Trent has a couple of twigs, and a couple or dry tree bark. He got a twig and a tree bark, and rubbed the twig between his hands on the tree bark. He blew on it after a while of rubbing. Wooooosh!

A small fire ate up the wood and Trent threw all the other bark and twigs in the fire, and it flamed to life!

"Alright! What's for supper?" Trent asked with a absentminded smile.

"Fruit." replied Samantha, slowly getting to her feet to get the berries.

She cooked them for about three seconds under the fire with a metal pan.

"Where did u get that metal pan??" I asked, picking up the pan.

"It floated ashore yesterday." Samantha replied, gesturing to the beach.

"There might be more items that washed up, lets go check the beach tomorrow!" And then we were served with fruit, we used tree bark as dishes, we ate with carved twigs. After that, we said good night, and went to sleep in our twig beds.

Chapter Three : Cody Wolf

"Why are you always the last one to wake up?" asked Trent, snapping his fingers in front of my face.

"Five... More... Minutes..." I said, slapping his fingers our of my way.

"It was your idea to go find things that got washed a shore! Wake up!" said Trent, showing his knuckles in my face.

"Fine..." I replied after seeing his fists.

I slowly got to my feet. My head was still aching intensly, but then I thought that my face would ache more from his punch than my head. After Mr. Fisty calmed down we went to the beach.

"Okay, let's go in groups. I'll go with Lucy and you two will go together, okay?" I said to everyone.

"Why are you the leader?" complained Trent, his hands making fists.

"I'm not the leader..." I replied with a frightened shrug.

Trent was silent for a while, but then he said that I would be the leader.

"I just said I wasn't the leader!" I replied, stepping back two steps.

"Fine! I'll be the leader!" Trent said mockingly.

"No! I'm the leader!" I mockingly replied back.

Eventually Samantha and Lucy had to break us up.

So, we went out searching for things that may have washed up on shore; I went with Lucy, and Trent went with Samantha. We continued walking without progress for some time; maby twenty or thirty minutes had had passed, but it was hard to tell without a watch. I kept my eyes on the ground, to look for anything that may have washed up ashore. Suddenly, something shiny got my attention.

"I think I found plastic!" I said, pointing to the shiny item in the shallow water.

"Really? What kind is it? Is it broken and dirty?" asked Lucy, taking a few steps back.

"I'm not really sure.." I replied. I ran toward the shiny glass that is buried in sand. There were five empty water bottles!

"We could use this to bottle water!" I suggested while digging then up.

"Yeah! We could fill it up right now! There is a clean lake over there next to the cave!" Lucy suggested, jumping up in joy.

"We might survive this nightmare after all!" I said with hope in my face.

We sauntered to the lake. 'I haven't drank anything in a day! I might as well take a drink when we get there' I thought.

"These bottles are awfully dirty! We really should wash them first!" Lucy said, looking at them in disgust.

So, we washed them in the lake. After they were sparkling clean, we filled them up with fresh water.

"What is that? There is something in the water! I think its a wild animal!" Lucy said in horror.

"Where??" I asked, looking everywhere on the lake.

"Over there!" replied Lucy, pointing at a black figure in the water.

"Oh My God! Its a baby wolf and it's drowning! We have to save it!" Lucy said, jumping up. "I'll get some sticks from the trees!"

She ran off into the forest, and returned in a few seconds. She moved the stick next to the wolf, and the wolf held on to it, but it kept slipping, but with a couple of scary moments, they were able to get it to safety in a few minutes. I took it back to the cave. We sprinted back to the cave. When we got there, we put the baby wolf next to the fire to warm it up.

"AH! It's a wolf!!" Said Samantha jumping up and covering her mouth in horror. But Trent was silent.

"It was drowning in the lake. We had to save it, or it would have drowned..." I said, holding it near my stomach.

"Your scaring it with your yelling!" Lucy complained to Samantha.

"We should build a little door with wood so the wolf doesn't run away tomorrow. Besides, it could be helpful, and make life less dull here.” I suggested, picking up some wood from our firewood pile and putting it on the entrance.

"We are not keeping that!!" Samantha said, backing against the wall.

"Zack does have a point. He could be useful when hunting with us."

"He's a little cub! He can't help us hunt!" Trent finally said. "We should name it!" Lucy suggested.

"Name it Trent Jr.!" Trent said in a agreeing tone.

"No!" I said. "How about Cody?"

"That's great! Cody it is!" Lucy replied.

"He does look like a Cody" agreed Trent.

Samantha was very silent.

"It's getting late. Good Night everyone!" I said, blowing out our fire.

Chapter Four : Two Survivors and The Ship

I woke up from the noise of a loud crash, and looks like everyone else woke up too. Everyone was silent as they kept listening to the crashing and creaking noises of metal. 'Cleeeak, Boooom, Cleeeak, Boooom!!!!' I grabbed Cody and we all went out to see together what it was. As we anxiously walked out of the foggy cave, the cleaking and booming stopped after a few seconds. We were still walking towards the sound. The dense fog prevented us from perceiving the mysterious thing. Suddenly, we heard two voices, two voices of a little boy and a little girl. They were screaming for help, in a frightened way. The four of us quickly ran to the voices.

"Help! Help! Help! Is anyone here?!?!" said the boy voice. "Please help us!"

We ran faster. We ran our fastest, but the dense fog had us lost.

"Hello? We're here to help you! Stay there and keep yelling!" I screamed to the voices, waving my arms in the air, hoping they would see us.

"We are here!!!" screamed the voice. "My sister is hurt! Help us!" We ran faster, faster than we every did before, and we found the boy and his sister.

"Please! Help my sister! Are you a doctor mister?" said the boy.

His sister had a bad cut on her arm and she looked like she was really suffering.

"Help... me..." said the girl in a whimpering voice.

Everyone was paralyzed in shock, staring at the big ship or the girl. I, on the other hand, quickly ripped part of my shirt off and used it as a bandage for the suffering girl. As I tied it on, the fatal bleeding stopped a bit. I don't anything about medical health, but Samantha knows more than an average doctor. Before I could tell Samantha to help me, she quickly ran over and started treating the wound. After a few minutes, we too the two survivors back to the cave.

"How did you get here? I asked, "What was that ship? It looks familiar."

"I was so excited, we were going to Mexico on the cruise with my family." answered the boy. "I seen you on the ship, you name is Zack? And you are Lucy, Trent and Sam."

"Samantha." She corrected.

"Was that the same ship we were on before?" Trent asked

"Yes" Lucy said. "I remember those pictures on the ship."

"Wait! There might be food and water on the ship! I said "And maybe more survivors!"

"Anyway, my name is Michael, and this is my sister, Sabrina." said the big brother of the sister.

"I want to go to sleep..." said Sabrina, holding on to her wound on her hand.

"You want anything to eat? I asked, holding out some berries.

"No thank you, we just want sleep and rest." said Michael, and his sister agreed loyally.

So we fed ourselves, and also fed Cody.

Chapter Five : That Night

I could hear the rushing of wind, the burning of screams. Time was flowing through my soul, creeping through my inner-most thoughts. I was walking through the corridor, bright flashing lights, sparking rapidly. The aroma of delicious food seeped through my layers, and into myself. It refreshed me, yet in this place of horror, it still refreshed me. I could smell chips, soup, Duck O'l Orange. The aroma was coming straight through that definite door of doom. Darkness filled the sparking when I walked closer. And closer. And closer. I could hear the humming, hysterical humming beyond the ones to walk the Earth. It had a tone of fear, suffering, and torture.

It was that night. That horrible night.

*** *** ***

Still dazed, I woke up to the sound and smells of the ocean, in which was filled with salinity. The tides were rushing against the sea, scratching and squealing the sounds of the abandoned, or so it seemed, ship. A burning sensation was emphasized when I tried to sit up, deep inside my chest.

"Just a little heart burn..." I mumbled to ease the paranoid ghost deep inside my flesh and blood.
