Veni, Vidi, Componi (I came, I saw, I composed)

I came, I saw, I composed;
I was wandering desolate realm of the unexplored.
Yearning for inspiration, my soul arose,
and I heard a most awe-inspiring chord.
Now I can write what I was shown -
and now you can see what I record.

Writing

Searching my soul for that creative spark
is something some find as too bleak or too stark.
Where to begin, that's the dismal task;
how do I know, then, what my heart may ask?
And then, what to write, I daresay note,
requires words to suddenly float.
From my mind? My heart? My soul? My head?
Filled with joy, filled with hope, or even some dread?
Am I up to and able to get things out right...
Success, ultimately, is such a delight.
The joy of expressing feelings and emotion
sometimes costs much time and devotion.

Music:

Some say music can be defined,
as noise and silence joined in time.
I hate to be such a bore,
but music, to me, means so much more.

Words do not begin to grasp,
what music can say to your soul.
Words sometimes struggle and rasp
when music can reach a high-aimed goal.
Like an addiction, it will clasp
your mind and take hold;
showing you treasures from ages past
it remains more valuable than even gold.

In a whirlwind of emotion and expression,
composition and impression, even obsession,
the inspiration from countless tunes
pervades my mind every afternoon.
The constant cacophony of clashing schemes
is a joy, a pain, a bit extreme;
it however is such a thrill
although I wish my mind could chill.

Being my lifelong passion,
music always is in fashion.
It withstands the test of time
and stand high - most sublime.
And although silence and noise make music flow,
care and emotion make it glow.

Candle

What can one small light
preach into the world?
Perhaps the flame
and wick unfurled
beckons clear and bright
that comfort and reassural
to those in pain
is not in vain.

Shining into the dark,
the solitary flame glows.
As it only will blink
when a harsh wind blows,
the light embarks
on a journey to grow.
It might only stop and wink,
but its incandescence will not sink.

O, candle, shed your light
upon others in hope;
As your warmth and hospitality
helps anyone cope
with their personal fight
on the steep slope
of discovering a mentality
to prepare for reality.

Life

This piece was inspired on IRC from some fooling around with Treadlight's greet on Thanksgiving of 2008:

[TreadLight] /me puts on a blindfold and stabsnugs aimlessly.

The night be still, and I be stabbed. Yea, who will help me?
Be thou quiet or my spirit forsaken? Can thou not but hear my plea?
I was mistook with an act of kindness, and used by thee
to become an instrument in some sadistic glee!

O, what trouble have I wrought,
for a time hath I been forgot
and forsakenly left all but naught?

Yet not deserving was I for death
and as I say with each passing breath
Mine own dignaty was thrown aside,
valued scant, and denied.
Life to thou is not but a game,
whilst to me, I must proclaim,
best served though peace and care
to support the burden we must bear.

Note: The edit here was due to a miscoded command in the title, as there was not a matching bracket on one side.

Creativity

For me, beginning is
nothing more than the hardest step.
Drowning in a sea of ideas
only to surface and breathe one in
is not easy for me.

After I breathe in the idea,
a journey of inspiration starts.
It knows not a bound or wall it cannot cross.
Excitement flows deep from within
and permeates me as I compose and fight
for a glimpse of what can or might
become an insight into my identity.

Vivid colors, streams of sound,
schemes, and dreams of things profound
whirl and take my mind captive,
not letting up until I finish.
As if a tsunami of pure ideas
struck through my brain,
I am no longer in control of what I do;
I am cast aside to watch and see
what beautiful things may come out of me.
I am in awe of what I see,
did I actually make that?

The rush and thrill are over,
but the joy and happiness linger
from completion of my task.
My only hope is that
someone reads or listens
and can appreciate it.

What if?

What if the world was a different place?
What would happen to all worldly grace,
somehow if the world was "normal?"
What would become of a creative spirit -
would it be just plain and formal?

Nonconformity - being unique -
is respected as state of mind.
If a person never stopped to speak
or never set out for something to find,
the world would be very bleak;
most certainly left far behind.

What if the world was a different place?
What it the world had no pain?
What would we gain?
Humanity suddenly becomes lost
as what makes us human is violently tossed.
No pain, no gain, as the saying does go.
Humanity could not learn and grow.
Like an artist, poet, or writer,
the struggle composes the fighter.

What if the world was a different place?
What if the world didn't care?
A dearth of kindness and compassion
is just too much for any to bear.
When humans have no care or passion,
hope becomes lost and people despair.
If caring ever became a ration,
everything we know would be impaired -
the lack of one kind and simple action
would leave many alone and scared.

A world in which all are the same,
free from harm, struggle, or shame,
seems like a sad and dull game.

Soul Music (Collab with Ana_Maria)

Said the dad to the son
take this trumpet and try to play
the emotion you feel
rather than notes on the page

Let the notes flow from your inner soul
The melody in your heart, be it blue, big, or bold,
serves as a rule of thumb and thus can be changed
to fit any mood you could possibly have.

play the song in your heart
Make it loud and proud
cause ya should be proud of your art
Play that melody, that story
the greatest ever told

The son, taking advice from his old man,
picked up the instrument of polished brass and blew
A deep, rich sound resonated through its tubes
The dad listened on, and on his face a smile grew.

for he recognized the long forgotten tune
Smiling, he "heard" the love behind the music
that tune that won his late wife's heart
so many many years ago
So happy is he, nearly crying with joy

"Son, you've made me proud,
You played your heart out clear and loud
With emotion like that, you can't go wrong
love is nature's most perfect song

Seize the Wintertime Blue: Defrost with Poetry
(Collab with Ana_Maria)

Seems I have wintertime blues
Seems Im depressed and dunno what to use
to beat it this year, this time
All that comes to mind is penning these odd, sad rhymes

Like the outside, covered with snow,
you have a whole blank slate to bestow
gifts of verse, rhyme, and reason -
a perfect start to the snowbound season.

all these words in my head
gift giving and thoughts of love
Warm hearts, yet cold hands
As I sit by the fire, penning this with dread
Sounds from up above
Seems upon my ears, sweet tunes lands

Quickly scribbling down the note;
awe and admiration fill the page.
Looking back at what I just wrote,
I hoped it wouldn't fade with age.

all these words, wise and sage
sound advice, from someone up in age
these blues seem to melt and dissipate
as this collab with you, I participate

Wintertime is a time of giving -
a time of jovial and selfless living.
A forge of friendship melts the metal
that allows peace to begin to settle.

peace and love and happiness
world needs more, but I digress
these wintertime blues have me down
Poeting to help my frown, upside down

writing seems to be my saving grace
poeting, perhaps, puts smile upon my face
Perhaps the cure
was poeting for sure?
One never knew
unless they tried writing todo

Releasing the soul through a catharsis of words
although it may be painful, lifts your voice to be heard
Poetry in motion is a most beautiful sight
Like gazing upon the stars in a cold winter's night.

in hopes of scaring them blues away
I ask you to collab with me today
seems the joy I find
in helping you exercise your mind
also helped my emotional bind
them blues them blues
I chanted as I channeled my muse

The night is long for the ideas to flow.
I, most certainly, would be happy to go
to sharpen my mental acuity through verse
to subdue and abuse my mental curse;
for my mind, as a rule of thumb,
is otherwise pandemonium.

writing poetry that could be turned into song
that someday might go platinum
Too bad my verse is too short and lyric needed to be long
My pen, my quill, out of aluminum
I write this now to empty my head
so I can sleep without dread

Got them blues on the run
cause poeting with you is so much fun
better than any pills
I could take to cure my ills

Sharing emotions that bind your mind
Composes a bond stronger than any you can find:
this emotional release -
I hope it helps you find your peace!

Angel of Darkness

The flash of light once more succumbs
and the song ending twilight hums.
An intense aura begins to spread
and instills a sense of omnipotent dread.

A shadow materializes in front of me;
a faint outline I begin to see:
The wings as dark as death,
tainted by many a hero's dying breath.
The head bears a crown of calamity,
causing destruction my eyes did see.
In the right hand, a shadowed staff
from which can be heard an evil laugh.
The left holds a shield of some sort,
with the defense of an impregnable fort.
Inside the mind rests an aura of steel;
willpower held by an unfaltering seal.
A cry like the wailing of a banshee
can cause even the greatest of kings to plea.

While most would be shaking in their boots,
I calmly stand, senses acute.
From this dark angel, I have nothing to fear;
we are friends - that much is clear.
The Banisher of Souls and Angel of the Dark
both with intertwining roles grave and stark.

Trust & secrets
Collab with Ana_Maria

I sometimes hear things
I sometimes see things
and these things
I sometimes hear
or sometimes see

I may or may not
was supposed to see
or supposed to hear

I suppose its
"Right place at right time"
or perhaps Im just trusted /that/ much

Whatever the reason
whatever the rhyme
I seem to be magnet
for information
much of the time

Perhaps its cause of who I am
or perhaps cause of what I do
Seems something in the air
that draws things
but to be fair
I didnt ask, I didnt pry

All was told me
or around me
I cant help but notice

Sometimes I see
Sometimes I hear
I observe
Odd how things are
but I suppose
Its part of who I am

It seems like secrets in the air
love to spread afar - here and there.
Secrecy is one simple thing
A sign of respect, a sign of good means.
.
Information comes, changes, and goes.
Where it goes to, no one knows.
But keeping a pact and honoring it still
Shows signs of a trustworthy will
.
Don't ask, don't tell, don't reveal the source.
Sometimes it plagues with great remorse.
But friends hold fast to the golden bond
which can overcome the pressure to spread beyond.
.
Secrets are safe with who you trust.
If you see it, someone entrusts
their very life, details, past, or present
to you, believing in what you represent.

I originally intended this to lock a thread...
alas! It is just dead
before the thirty pages have passed...
so only here this poem shall last!

Below, if you choose to look
are poems I made in time I took
on New Year's Day Eve and New Year's Day
Enjoy and read them; whatever you may
decide to do
is up to you.

The last Rhyme of 2008's Time

Thirty pages of fun, alas!
Too much for one thread to ask -
Whence it is not a crime
to lock a thread with rhyme,
I only have to ask
that a new thread accomplish the simple task
of prolonging the enjoyment of the new
and causing the old to shoo.
A new thread's made, and I pray...
enjoy the festivities of this New Year's Day!

Locked in rhyme,
locked in time.

Chess: Part 1

The king in his throne of glory
rallies on troops to the coming brawl.
Every tactical decision makes history
in attempting to make his opponent fall.
His deep purple cloak moves as the wind blows;
it billows and flips like a kite on a string
as he searches, only to know
of a winning song to sing.

But who sings better than the king's wife?
A song of peace or a story of death
are made from a cross of hope or a knife.
Her flowing hair and kind breath
give the life and hope to her own realm
or take it away from another.
Her soft voice, like the seas, she can quell
fights of any groups like a watchful mother.

Two clergymen have differences quite stark
and cannot see of the path straight ahead.
One follows light and the other dark,
enough to strike, in any foe, fear and dread.
An ornate hat fits on both their skulls
and scepters of gold they carry with them.
As they walk through ancient, ruined halls,
they chant out an old and mystical hymn.

The battlefield ground quaked and shook,
but the archers inside were prepared well.
The castle's guards took a quick look
at scores of enemies that had already fell.
The bows made from a mythical wood were knocked
and aimed with precision so legendary
that anything that so even gawked
would become part of the past - history.

Equestrians patrol the war zone,
jumping around to scout out the field.
They are sworn to protect the throne -
knight and shield both unwilling to yield
as they uphold their chivalrous code.
Polished metal, hardened steel,
coats of arms and emblems were rode
to engage enemies most vile.

Naive soldiers, inexperienced to fight,
are instructed by a knight from afar
or from the king in a sleepless night.
These pawns can become more than they are
after experience on the field
is gained. The others seem bendable
as their success will not yield
to the reality of being expendable.

This Poem

This piece of poetry was not thought up - no,
it was riddled with thought on its creation, though.

This piece of poetry has not been written before now,
but that never stopped poets from writing, anyhow.

This piece of poetry may not flow like a tide
crashing about a desolate oceanside.

This piece of poetry is by no means the best -
nothing other than what my weary tongue professes.

This piece, this amalgamation of old and of new,
clashing thoughts, even slant rhyme, perhaps other things too...
This creation is not the work I intended.
These words came out and reprehended
my mind, flooding strange ideas and thoughts
to compose this poem that I have brought,
and now share,
with you.
