So random things have been happening lately that have got me thinking of good discussions to talk about on this forum, but sometimes they seems like they would be not as meaningful without a poll attached to it, for people to vote on.

I've been working on a way to resurrect the Poll sections, but having not the overload of spam that it was. So after a lot of thought, I propose to you an idea!

What if it was somewhat like UCaG, where AKs and mods would approve polls that people posted in a Pending Poll Section, and move them to an approved section. Of course, rules would be stricter. Perhaps rules like 2 spam Polls at a time, 5 Favorite Song, Band, Game, etc threads, and 5 Non-Game related threads (separate from the spam and favorite,) and 10 game related polls. Polls must have some meaning behind them, even if they are spam. For example, no Chooz 1!!!!1!! Pie, Monkeis, Pirates, MONEY!!, Pigs, Pie, You said pie twice, No I didn't! threads, but a spam poll could be like "Do you believe in Santa Claus?" and have reasonable, and non-random choices.

I understand this would take more moderation, and it has its faults, but I would like it to be took into consideration, for those with wants to ask questions!

 I think that this brings up an interesting point, but it would require a lot of Moderation. Something this made me think of is a Poll Request Thread where someone could request for a poll to be made where an ArchKnight/Moderator could make said poll, would probably diminish the amount of spam that the Polls Forum would see, while also giving everyone on the forum their own polls.

 King of...except it could just be a thread where people post in and then the OOC ArchKnights would make threads on Polls that wouldn't be spammy and followed the rules. Something where it would allow the ArchKnights to make good polls, but not have to waste time deleting bad ones.

I was more thinking something like a Pending Polls section, but tflo's thread idea could work too. It just kinda depends on who runs it, and what he/she/they would prefer.

But yay! Supporters!

Your idea is a decent one, except for the large amount of moderation it would require. When you think about the amount of time that would have to be given to mod the forum, you have to wonder why there's a need for a Polls Forum at all. What did it accomplish, exactly?

Polls can be a useful tool for the moderation and game teams, but I've never understood the need for a normal member to create a poll. Threads and discussion forums essentially exist to allow people to give their opinion, so polls that do so seem redundant (Especially since Polls was so "spammy" because it was full of posts! Forums are made for posts.). Anyone wanting others' opinions should just make a thread and see what people say: it's more fun than looking at numbers and trying to filter through spammy comments anyway.

Take your "Santa Claus" poll, for example. There are really only two choices, yes or no, so it would be a bad poll. However, a thread about Santa Claus could lead to all different sorts of people discussing their beliefs in Santa, the traditions and ideas they associate with Santa/Christmas, etc. Threads are generally much more constructive than polls, except in cases where hundreds of opinions are given and the starter doesn't want to have to sort through them all (which is the case with staff polls, but not exactly the various polls that were in the Polls Forum).

I also question how active such a forum would be, because I think a lot of people just used polls to mess around and boost their post counts. But that's another issue. ;)

What it accomplished: A way to keep track of what others though about something, without reading every post in a thread, which can some times get large. This is just a nice little screen that shows what others think. It also was also just easy, sometimes when you post you want the post to be longer, and possibly effect how another person sees something. If you don't have to post, and just vote, it gives a lot less pressure then trying to get a post with good reason behind it. And, I mean, who doesn't love clicking more buttons?

Spammy Posts: With less opportunities to spam, less spam will occur. And with my idea, that allows 22 polls at a time, it would be easier to manage then unlimited like it was before.

Poll VS. Thread: There could be plenty of more choices then "yes" or "no." "Doubtful." Doubtful, yes still believing." "Want to believe, but don't." "I pretend to so I can get presents, but I don't." and more. People can think of non-spammy answers. And with a poll you can still have that discussion, just with a chart to keep track of all of the different general opinions. People can still write variations of polls ina post if they want too, leading to equal constructive opportunity.

Activity Rate: Well I doubt it would be as active as before, but that means less spam. I'm sure lots of responsible members would like to share there opinions in a place with less spam, then a place almost all spam, so that might help boost activity too.

I myself love poll, but when I know we have a poll forum, It was locked.
I have a idea: make a thread for people post a poll idea and explain it, so AK/mod can see which idea is good then make a poll about that. That's a good was to remake a poll.

um OK if you know the ranks and you can aply for it and then a mod or a AK says OK or no and then the members with that rank they can post a poll.

I like this idea.

But I have a feeling that a better System would be like the DragonFable Pending Guides Board.

And as stated by tflo and Bballman23, this would require a lot of Moderation.

So to add to your Suggestion, what about Poll AKs - seperate from the OOC AKs.

I'm not familiar with the DF Pending Guide system, so I'll take a look when my computer isn't so slow. :/

Poll AKs might help eliminate some of the extra moderation needed, because then it's a whole different job. That would work, but it really depends on how much AKs the Mods want.

 We had AKs in the polls forum - the board was removed as it was largely superfluous and too hard to moderate. Now, instead of asking "who likes basketball" you can post a thread in the OOC that discusses basketball and will likely get you the same answers, but with a great deal more quality in the responses.

Thank you for your suggestion, but the polls forum will not be brought back. :)
