It has come to my attention that people on forum are not allowed to submit there own avatar!
My suggestion is that you set up a system that allows people to send avatars of there own choosing for reveiw
and if it is not of an offensive nature and is the correct size etc it should be excepted! It would be nice to have my
own identity on forum rather then use the same select few pics constantly! I would like to use an actors face which is
not offensive in any way.

No, you are wrong on your first statement. You can submit your own avatars.

quote:

11) "I made these really cool avatars about the games. Can you add them?"

We sure can!

Avatars are now being sent to Seahawk.
The rules are as follows:
1. Avatars MUST be AE related.
2. Avatars have to follow the regular avatar rules. 95 X 95 pixels and no larger than 10K, NO ANIMATIONS. .jpg or .gif only
3. Avatars can NOT simply be a cut out of AE art with nothing done to them. If we want some direct AE art we can easily add it ourself.
4. Please PM avatars to me in bunches of 5 to 10. I might consider uploading less, but I will not upload more.
All avatars must be in the same PM.
5. Do not PM me multiple times to ask when your avatars will be uploaded. I'll do it when I get to it. If I have multiple PMs about the same avatars, they won't be uploaded no matter how good they are.
6. Please PM me your submissions. I don't want to receive emails about this.

Please note that any avatars submitted become the property of Artix Entertainment and as such could be used in advertising or on the web pages.

Yes but only if they are AE related. It only allows unrelated pics to be chosen by ArchKnights etc. It can't be a copyright issue because
i have seen many of them use pics of unrelated material and even actors faces. You already have the privledge of your title and allowances
all i ask is that we be allowed to choose a simple unrelated pic as long as it is not offensive and that is my request!

I think you missed the last part of the quote:

quote:

Please note that any avatars submitted become the property of Artix Entertainment and as such could be used in advertising or on the web pages.

So, all public avatars become property of Artix Entertainment.

Avatars with actors for example could become property of Artix Entertainment. And this is a copyright issue because Artix Entertainment could not own avatars with famous people's faces. You can't own someone's face if it is not part of Artix Entertainment already.

Can you understand now? =P

I hope you don't mind me asking i mean no offense it is just curious is all!
I read the last statement and understand you but here is the thing. Artix entertainment has full control over what they use for advertising and what they choose to keep
and it would be silly of them to use material for such purposes if they know it is copyrighted! At the end of the day they choose what to keep and what to use and if they see
and actors face as a avatar then i would imagine that they would not use it for this reason! And again if moderators have a actors face then that would be an issue aswell! = P

Just to add from yugi's quote.
You might wanna consider also the bandwidth that the forums uses,in the aqw folder there are almost a hundred of them and then you add the other folders and that is already large, and if they add more it might be the cause of problem like the avatar/images problem we have right now and since you are requesting it that normal members have the ability to change their avatar by request everyone will ask to get their avatar changed and there will be time that a normal user will get tired of his avvy and request another one then another forum user will copy him and ask to change his avvy,it will be an endless request and the person who will be doing it will sure get tired might get annoyed, and beside this forum is a property of AE so we should use the images of their games as they asked.

First, practically speaking, storage space can be tight sometimes. We have a lot of posts in the database, and a lot of members.
Second, speaking on policy, custom avatars are a privilege used to denote status. They are given either to those who are helpful or creative or to those who volunteer their time.
Third, aesthetically speaking, we have made the decision that all of our publicly-available avatars would be based on the Artix Entertainment games. This is an Artix Entertainment forum. If you're not satisfied with the choices, submit your own AE-related avatars or earn the privilege to upload your own.

That statement about advertising and using them on the web pages are purely an addition as an example. They forgot to add "but not limited to".

The main idea is that by submitting an avatar with Jean Claude Van-Damme's face (it's an example) will mean that Artix Entertainment will own the avatar with Jean Claude. And by owning it, they get full rights over it.

But this contradicts the laws - You can't own something if it is not yours entirely.

And they don't own Jean Claude - he isn't in Artix Entertainment's team or forum staff.

To put it in a nutshell: The law doesn't allow a company to own something such as the image of an actor.

It know it might seem silly and all that, but that's the sad truth. In order to have avatars with the respective actors you have to gain their permission.

For example if Artix would ask nicely Voltaire maybe he would accept for us to have avatars with him wearing his cool top-hat.

What about the previously existing avatars that were lost during the hardware failure? Will they be restored straight away, or they will be restored after suggestion from players, or maybe they have to go through inspection once again?

Inconceivable!

@Mark Chung: Seahawk has everything on backup if it can't be restored. They'll be back sooner or later.

quote:

Hopefully, the AQW (and MQ and WF and ED and whatever other avatar folders are missing) will be fully recovered once the current server hardware issues are completely resolved.

If for some reason they aren't, I DO have copies and/or locations of every single avatar I have uploaded to the forums since I took over that task a few years back. But rebuilding the folders and re-uploading the avatars manually will take a LONG time, so I'm hoping I won't have to do that.

Yeah, 3/4 of the avatars have gone missing. Just change your avatar if you don't like how it is now.

Mark Chung, uploading your own avatar is also called "having a custom avatar".

And here is a quote from The Legendary d4 (Post #6) regarding custom avatars:

quote:

3) "Why can't everybody have a custom avatar?"

Also, next time you have a question about the forums you might want to create your own thread in the Forum Support instead of hijacking (asking/suggesting else something in someone else's question/suggestion thread) a thread. It helps keeping each thread about a specific question and also keeps the users responding to the thread on-topic.

Chaos!

Avatar upload rights are exclusive to titled members, and I don't see this changing anytime soon. While I understand your concerns when bringing this up, the avatar upload ability is exclusive to certain groups for specific reasons, as stated in the posts above.

Seeing the suggestion is covered by the FAQ, and this thread has become a Q&A thread, it is now locked. For questions regarding the forums, please use the Forum Support board.
